Chapter 534: Chapter 152: Your Majesty, you must not!
Ireya hadn’t slept well all night, occasionally wanting to reach for the blood scab on her neck, while also keeping one ear upright, listening intently for any movement outside her room, worried that Li Yu might return halfway. As a result, she spent the night half asleep until dawn.
Just as the Lady was on the verge of feeling drowsy, she was startled awake by a series of knocks on the door.
"Are you up yet?" Li Yu’s voice came from outside.
Miss Rabbit held her breath without answering.
"Watt’s Servant has crafted a new Holy Artifact for you. We still have some time, let’s go to a grove outside the city to test it."
Hearing this, the Lady couldn’t pretend to sleep anymore. She yawned and pretended to have just woken up, "Hmm, let me put on some clothes first."
About ten minutes later, the girl came out of the house.
Seeing her attire, Li Yu couldn’t help but let out a light exclamation. Miss Rabbit’s attire below her neck was fairly normal: she was wearing the robe and cloak she often wore when going out.
However, atop her head she wore an iron helmet, which covered everything above her neck quite snugly.
"The duel... it won’t start for quite a while," Li Yu reminded her.
"I know, but I want to get used to it in advance," the Lady said with forced composure.
"Alright." Li Yu, upon hearing this, didn’t say anything more, descended the stairs with Miss Rabbit, called up Ge Lipeng, Jude, and two teams of Black Hound guards, and headed to the place where they had practiced shooting before.
The girl took the rocket tube and her first impression was that it was larger and also heavier; holding it felt substantial. But what truly shocked her came after she fired it.
The Lady had grown accustomed to the "roar" of the dueling pistols during firing, which, to her and most spectators, was the sound of God releasing a miracle, causing a disturbance in heaven and earth with the sound and the flash from the muzzle.
When she switched to the rocket tube, that roaring was even louder, nearly deafening, and the powerful recoil made the girl involuntarily take a half-step back. As a result, her accuracy when firing was terribly off.
However, the bullet still hit the target in front of her, leaving a spread of bullet holes.
"No need to aim?" The Lady quickly grasped the gun’s unique feature; it seemed she could engage multiple enemies at once, especially if they were closely grouped.
And when Miss Rabbit chambered a bullet herself, she discovered another clever use for the flared muzzle. This design greatly shortened the time it took for her to reload, allowing her to move while loading gunpowder and bullets
What a treasure, truly a marvelous weapon!!!
Ireya’s eyes shone with excitement. As the foremost practical shooter on the Bratis Continent, she immediately recognized the extraordinary nature of this Hand of Judgment.
Afterwards, the Lady tried shooting several times, fully enjoying the happiness brought by the caliber. She wanted to study the rocket tube further, but time was no longer on her side.
The duel was about to begin, and Miss Rabbit had to reluctantly put away her new firearm.
The group didn’t return to the inn but went straight to the Triumphal Arch. When they were approaching the Duel Arena, they encountered a group of people.
They were followers of the Life Church, surrounding a carriage that hurried past the Lady.
Ireya didn’t have time to think much because cheers had already begun to resound from all around.
As the only female participant in this tournament, Miss Rabbit had continually attracted considerable attention, yet, in the first half, most of it had been doubt and mockery.
However, as she kept succeeding through the rounds, winning one duel after another, her strength shattered those doubts and earned her more praise and applause.
By the time she defeated the Earth Bear, her personal reputation had soared to its peak, becoming practically a household name overnight in the Royal Capital. Those who had witnessed that battle spared no effort in lavishing upon her all the words of praise they could muster.
Now, she was about to represent the Red Lion Empire in facing off against that annoying foreigner; the crowd at the sidelines all hoped she would defeat Camel, avenge the Silver Knight, and uphold the glory of the Empire.
The support Miss Rabbit received for this duel was almost overwhelming, and the Lady dismounted to wave and express her gratitude to the cheering supporters around her.
Then, she heard the summoning of His Majesty the Emperor and approached the grandstand.
Edward II seemed a tad weary, but perked up upon seeing the young lady, and asked, "How about it, are you confident in winning this battle?"
"Of course, Your Majesty." The Lady responded without hesitation.
"Very good." Edward II was quite pleased with her response, "If you win the championship, I’ll reward you with thirty thousand golden lions, and I’ll also grant you Crab’s Corner."
Miss Rabbit was a bit slow to react at first, wondering why the Emperor would give her Crab’s Corner, but as she noticed the nobility around her changing expressions, she finally remembered something.
She blurted out, "Crab’s Corner, isn’t that the Weiting Family’s territory? Ah, should I not have mentioned that name?!"
Edward II laughed heartily, "It doesn’t matter, I’ve wiped out their family, what’s there to not mention."
The Emperor’s gaze towards the Lady was piercing, "Since you know of the Weiting Family, then you should also know the special political significance surrounding Crab’s Corner to the entire New Continent.
"It is said that over ten thousand years ago, our ancestors of the three tribes first landed on the Bratis Continent there; Crab’s Corner was their original foothold, which gradually developed into a town.
"The saying has always been prevalent in the New Continent, to rule over that land, one must conquer Crab’s Corner, and for thousands of years, it has been firmly in the grasp of the Weiting Family.
"And once they were finished, I had the Drummond family temporarily manage Crab’s Corner, but I’ve always been looking for a suitable successor, a new master of the place."
Edward II had just spoken when someone finally couldn’t hold back; the Minister of Finance Sirren spoke up.
"Your Majesty, I know you hold Sir Irelia in high regard, and we all admire her bravery, but bestowing the New Continent to her seems a bit exaggerated."
The Minister of Military Affairs added, "The Arias family is merely a small noble family from the West Frontier, and even if Sir Irelia wins the tournament, it’s doubtful that the nobles of the New Continent would readily accept her sovereignty, not to mention the Drummond family.
"They were suppressed by the Weiting family, and now that the Weiting family is gone, they’ve always regarded themselves as the rulers of the New Continent. If you hand over Crab’s Corner to Sir Irelia now, they would probably be dissatisfied as well."
Edward II remained composed, "I understand, your concerns are valid, but my mind is made up, and I have a way to make those fellows acquiesce to Irelia."
The Minister of Military Affairs and Minister of Finance exchanged glances, both recalling a certain recent rumor, their eyes grew rounder. Then, they sneaked glances at the third prince, who was laughing and talking with his brother not far away.
Edward II, however, did not elaborate further and simply said to Irelia, "Alright, you should go prepare now."
