Chapter 532: Chapter 150: Invitation
After the production of "Oh, Please Accept This Rose of Love" was completed, Li Yu had Zhang Yanlin upload the song onto every available platform.
Three days have passed since then, and when Li Yu got up early, he checked the backend data. The song had the highest number of plays on NetEase Cloud Music, almost reaching twenty thousand thanks to the traffic driven by Ying Man; the platform with the fewest clicks had only a few dozen.
It wasn’t surprising that these numbers were achieved without any promotion.
However, when Li Yu opened the comment section, the contents were not so friendly.
Comments like "Big sis, go find a class to attend," "Questioning the singer’s mental state," "Can any dalao tell me which bird language this is," and "Ah! My ears!" were among the more euphemistic ones.
There weren’t a lack of positive comments, but most were just words of encouragement or praise from Ying Man’s original fans.
When the song was released, Li Yu also tagged Lu Weijia’s QQ group, which prompted many lurkers to check out the new song. But the excitement lasted less than half a day before the group returned to its usual quiet, swamped by images barely related to work and posts organizing team games.
Last night, Li Yu went to the group to solicit feedback, and most people said they couldn’t understand the song, hadn’t finished listening to it, and found it strange.
Only a small portion of the group members were interested in the foreign language used in the song and wanted to attempt making a misheard (soramimi) version. But it was now 2022, and misheard interpretations were no longer popular.
Overall, Li Yu’s first foray into music wasn’t very successful, and he realized that music might not be a good choice after all. However, Che Haishen was already in the process of producing the second and third songs.
After thinking it over, Li Yu decided to let him finish.
After breakfast and tidying up the kitchen, Li Yu prepared to leave for work. It was only when he picked up his watch that he noticed the numbers in the faith count column were unusually high.
It had increased by about seven or eight thousand compared to before he went to sleep, an increase that was clearly abnormal—something must’ve happened at Bratis.
Li Yu guessed some of it and, before leaving, adjusted his backpack, adding some more medicine.
Arriving outside the office building, Li Yu ran into Ma Yuhan, who was also on her way to work. He nodded at her.
Ma Yuhan hurriedly said, "Good morning, Boss."
At the same time, she couldn’t help but feel curious. She had been working at Bratis Culture Communication Co., Ltd. for over twenty days and had always worried whether a company with such normal treatment might have some hidden pitfalls.
But after all this time, she had yet to find where the pitfall lay. Every day was just normal work, with no overtime—a sign of underwork at her previous company.
Yet at Bratis Culture Communication Co., Ltd., neither the HR manager Zhang Yanlin nor Li Yu, the boss, had raised any issues, and they even set an example by strictly adhering to the company’s attendance policy.
Besides, the working environment was great, relationships with colleagues were simple, workplace interactions were solely about work, and there was no disturbance after hours, with the boss never calling or texting during non-working hours.
It sometimes felt a bit unreal to Ma Yuhan, as if the company would suddenly announce an end-of-year outing to Southeast Asia for everyone.
Then there was boss Li Yu, also a bit atypical. He occasionally went on business trips but mostly stayed in the office.
However, he rarely interacted with the staff, not even leaving for lunch.
On the other hand, HR manager Zhang Yanlin often went out to lunch with them. Ma Yuhan, who was observant, even asked Zhang Yanlin whether they should bring back lunch for Li Yu on their first outing together.
But Zhang Yanlin just smiled, shook his head, and told her not to worry, Li Yu had something to eat.
Yet when Ma Yuhan returned, she noticed that the microwave in the pantry showed no signs of use.
At first, she thought that Li Yu might have left the office building while they were out for lunch, but when she left work, she saw Li Yu coming down from the upper floors.
That’s when Ma Yuhan realized Li Yu had been there all along, just very quietly, and even when people came to report work, they would go to Zhang Yanlin first, who would then arrange a time to pass it on to Li Yu.
Ma Yuhan felt that her boss was somewhat mysterious, but aside from that, the job was nearly perfect.
As someone experienced in the workplace, Ma Yuhan also knew the principle that less is often more, so she kept her questions to herself.
Li Yu went upstairs, saw there was still some time left, and checked OA again, to find an email that had arrived.
The email was sent just ten minutes ago and looked like it was timed, titled "Annual Meeting Invitation."
Li Yu clicked to read it, and there was a short message.
Employee Li Yu of the Business Department, ID 0741, hello, your rank has been detected as P5.
As a backbone of business during the third epoch, the company’s vigorous development over the past year could not have been achieved without your effort. You are hereby invited to participate in this year’s annual meeting.
The time is January 4th, and the location is Red Leaf Manor.
After using his phone for directions, Li Yu found that Red Leaf Manor was located outside the Fifth Ring, a sizable private estate.
He had unlocked an annual meeting invitation after being promoted to P5—it must be this.
The Third Epoch, a company whose main business was collecting development faith, hid itself quite well.
Not only from outsiders unfamiliar with the trade, but even new recruits like Li Yu found the Third Epoch shrouded in mist.
Since joining the company, Li Yu had hardly any contact with other departments or employees except for HR Xu Mengyuan and Hephaestus from the Equipment Department, nor had he seen any other business personnel in his own department.
And according to Xu Mengyuan, almost everyone with a rank of P5 or above would attend the annual meeting, which would also include several company directors.
If Li Yu wanted to learn more about the Third Epoch, he definitely couldn’t miss this meeting.
But with a month until the meeting began, Li Yu first turned his attention back to the work at hand.
He opened a Coke he brought with him, took a couple of sips, and walked into the room at the end of the hall.
After a familiar sense of dizziness, when Li Yu opened his eyes again, he found himself back in the inn.
But this time, Miss Rabbit wasn’t waiting for him as usual; instead, she had climbed into bed early, even covering her head with the blanket, seemingly fast asleep.
However, her ear, which was sticking out to eavesdrop, betrayed her. Li Yu glanced at the girl on the bed without exposing her.
He quietly exited the room, and Ireya, who was pretending to sleep on the side, sighed in relief.
