Chapter 497: Chapter 115: Duel Request

Having advanced, Earth Bear did not leave the duel arena but walked toward the stands again.

The two squads of Imperial Guards responsible for protecting His Majesty immediately gripped their sword handles, and the leading captain shouted at Earth Bear.

"Stop, commoner, if you dare take one more step forward, I guarantee your head will part from your neck!"

"No need to worry, Tobert, let him come. He is a priest of Cornelia and comes from the Boleslaw Family. He’s not a suspicious person," said His Majesty.

The head of the Imperial Guards stepped aside upon hearing this but kept his hand on the hilt of his sword.

Edward II then said to Earth Bear, "Come closer, let me have a good look at you. I haven’t seen such a brave warrior in a long time."

Earth Bear took two large steps forward and bowed respectfully to both the Emperor and the Empress.

"Very well, someone bring him one hundred, no, two hundred Gold Coins. We all owe him thanks for the splendid fight he just presented," said the Emperor with satisfaction.

Earth Bear once again bowed and expressed his gratitude, "It is my honor, Your Majesty. Compared to you, my martial skills are insignificant."

"Hahaha, why is everyone so humble now?" Though he said this, it was clear from Edward II’s expression that he was pleased; after a pause, he added,

"I remember you now. I hope you will continue to exert yourself and fight for honor and the ultimate championship."

However, Earth Bear did not take the two heavy bags of gold coins from the guard.

"What, do you think it’s too little?" frowned His Majesty.

"No, of course not. It’s just that in comparison to these gold coins, I desire something else."

"And what is that?" asked Edward II, curious.

"I seek your permission to duel with someone."

At these words, the face of Second Prince Claudio changed slightly, and Miss Rabbit in front of him looked at him with sympathetic eyes.

However, Edward II wasn’t foolish and didn’t immediately agree but instead asked, "With whom do you wish to duel?"

"My opponent would be the Lord of Green Field, your personally appointed Dragon Slayer Knight from the Arias family, Sir Irelia," Earth Bear stated deliberately.

Everyone was taken aback by this statement.

As the person in question, Miss Rabbit was utterly dumbfounded.

"Why do you wish to challenge Sir Irelia?" the Emperor continued to inquire.

"Because she killed my nephew."

"Your nephew? I’ve never even seen your nephew; how could I have killed him?" the Lady couldn’t help interjecting.

"My nephew’s name was Marsin, also known as Honey Bear. Does that refresh your memory, Sir Irelia?" a trace of undisguised murderous intent flashed across Earth Bear’s eyes.

"Marsin had looked up to me since he was little. Not long after I left the family, he was framed and quickly also expelled from the family. His planned marriage to the daughter of Viscount Hammond also fell through.

"Afterwards, Marsin took their engagement token and ventured alone to the Western lands, becoming a mercenary. Later, he took on a commission to help a noble lady find her daughter."

"At first, he didn’t take this commission seriously because men from the Boleslaw Family are adept at finding people. He easily located the target.

"I never expected to be drawn into a deadly internal struggle amongst the Noble Families, eventually getting beheaded by you and your men, Sir Irelia."

"The token of his affection for Dalia, a string of pearl necklace, should still be in your possession."

Earth Bear coldly said, "I’ve never taken a wife nor had children, I’ve always seen Marsin as my own son, and I must avenge him."

"You are lying. Honey Bear was clearly following my stepmother’s orders to capture me, not simply looking for someone to hire, and they were the first to attack."

Lady countered, "Merlin and I were only defending ourselves when we fought back, and besides, it was actually Jude who killed him."

"So where is this Jude now?" Earth Bear countered.

"He had previously gone to help me locate that dragon and has already died in the swamp."

"So you admit that he was your man."

"He was a mercenary, I merely hired him briefly... strictly speaking, our hiring relationship had not even started when he killed someone."

"Then he helped you kill my nephew, and other mercenaries who came to find you, do you actually believe this nonsense yourself?" Earth Bear scoffed disdainfully.

"Enough, enough," Edward II interrupted the two’s argument, "They are all stories of the past, why bring up such depressing matters.

"Ziboni, you want to challenge Sir Irelia to a duel to avenge your nephew, I understand your feelings, but I cannot agree to it.

"Because you are now a commoner, while Sir Irelia is a member of the imperial nobility; according to the law of the Empire, a commoner cannot challenge a noble to a duel."

Lady breathed a slight sigh of relief upon hearing this, but before she could rejoice, she heard Emperor continue.

"However, if you keep winning and Sir Irelia also keeps winning, you will eventually meet at the Duel Arena; there, you may settle your grievances."

Miss Rabbit was stunned by this statement, and afterwards, a wave of intense fear washed over her.

However, Earth Bear’s eyes gleamed with joy in the stands below.

Because Edward II had just agreed that both parties could fight to the death in the duel.

Although fatal incidents have always been common at the Duel Arena, even without the Emperor’s words, no one would hold Earth Bear accountable if he were to kill Irelia.

But regardless, Lady is now a favorite in the presence of Edward II; her death might displease the Emperor.

Earth Bear especially did not want to strain the relationship between Priest of Cornelia and Edward II because of this.

Thus, he seized this rare opportunity today to clarify their longstanding feud.

Earth Bear could now fully unleash himself, his face once again breaking into a ferocious grin.

Conversely, Lady’s face turned instantly pale, devoid of any color.

Edward II was, however, elated, for in his view both the Dragon Slayer Knight and Earth Bear were top-notch masters; their showdown would definitely be thrilling to watch.

As for Empress Heloise, she continued to savor the wine in her hand, her eyes detached, seemingly indifferent to the current proceedings.

Irelia felt as if she were being stripped away from the world at this moment, both the visuals before her and the sounds around her seeming very distant.

She faintly sensed someone approaching and speaking in front of her, yet she could not hear a single word.
