Chapter 496: Chapter 114 Unrivaled

The girl was followed by a somewhat familiar voice, "That is the Earth Bear."

Lady turned around and saw Second Prince Claudio, who had invited her for a meeting before.

"Is that guy really from the Boleslaw Family, and not some kind of humanoid monster that just popped up from somewhere else?"

Ireya’s face was ghastly pale, her stomach still churning from witnessing the bloody and brutal scene.

"This is the power of the Bloodline Potion," Claudio said, "The Earth Bear was originally very strong, but not to this extent. His strength increased substantially after joining the Life Church and now he can even rival a real bear."

"But isn’t this too outrageous?!" Lady swallowed hard, recalling the nightmare from the night before, and felt a chill down her spine.

Such a terrifying opponent, it must be impossible for anyone to defeat, right?

She had watched the fight between Sword Saint Essos and Edward II, and thought both of their strengths were formidable.

Yet, compared to the Earth Bear, their duel seemed like child’s play.

And she might even have to face such a monster herself, feeling an even greater despair now than when she faced the Black Dragon.

Although the Black Dragon was stronger than the Earth Bear, it wasn’t coming for her specifically, and if she truly couldn’t win, she could still hide underground.

But the Duel Arena was only so big, Ireya couldn’t exactly start digging holes on the spot, and even if she did, getting dragged out by the ear from such a hole would be too mortifying.

As the girl was in turmoil, an unexpected change occurred on the field.

The ferocious display of the Earth Bear had intimidated the other contestants, who deliberately kept their distance from him, fearing being targeted.

It was then that someone suddenly spoke up, "Let’s attack together, kill him first, or he will surely take one of the spots!"

The suggestion, however, was met with few takers; it was true that the Earth Bear would occupy one spot, but according to the rules, there were three spots for advancing in each group.

Most contestants preferred to vie for the remaining two spots rather than confront the fearsome opponent who could rip a person’s head off with his bare hands.

And that wasn’t the worst of it; the Earth Bear seemed to have heard the suggestion and quickly locked on to the person who had proposed it, flashing a sinister smile in their direction.

He then took a step forward, heading towards his target.

The man targeted by the Earth Bear became panicked, hurriedly retreating towards the back of the crowd, which made the Earth Bear quicken his pace, charging into the crowd like a wild bull, with everyone scattered in his wake.

However, after running a few steps, a man dressed as a farmer suddenly stopped, summoned courage from who knows where, turned around, and thrust the wooden spear in his hand at the Earth Bear’s side.

His thrust was sudden, powerful, and craftily angled, executed in the blink of an eye.

At this moment, he wasn’t the only one to take action against the Earth Bear; another mercenary, clad in leather armor, stumbled after being pushed by someone nearby, looking as if he was about to fall.

But just as he was about to hit the ground, he swiftly drew the sword at his waist and slashed at the Earth Bear’s left leg!

Simultaneously, the fellow who had been frantically running away, as if having made up his mind, also raised the pitchfork in his hand, the three of them encircling the Earth Bear in one swift moment.

Edward II let out a soft ’Huh.’

Not just His Majesty the Emperor, many in the crowd could tell that these three men might not be as simple as they appeared.

Because the timing of their choice and the tacit cooperation between them clearly indicated that this was not their first time committing such acts.

Miss Rabbit’s mind conjured up one term—assassin!

Someone wanted the Earth Bear dead and had hired professional assassins to blend into the crowd, crucially all of whom had been placed in the same group as the Earth Bear. The identity of the mastermind behind the scenes must certainly be complex.

The Lady turned her head, stealthily glancing at Claudio.

His face was very calm, showing no emotion, with only a trace of excitement flickering in his eyes that was difficult to detect.

But that excitement quickly turned into astonishment.

The Earth Bear, as if having eyes in the back of his head, deftly dodged the deadly thrust of the spear, then lifted his foot and stepped on the long sword swung by the mercenary.

In the end, he simply reached out and grabbed the pitchfork coming towards him, demonstrating outstanding agility and combat instinct.

Because of his terrifying strength, some had forgotten that the Earth Bear’s martial arts were equally remarkable.

Long before he had joined the Life Church, he had already been a renowned expert.

"You shouldn’t have taken this job."

The Earth Bear snarled, and as he spoke, he had already snatched the pitchfork and thrust it into the neck of the mercenary, who was still trying to pull his sword out from under Earth Bear’s foot.

Then the Earth Bear kicked the mercenary’s corpse away, sending it flying toward another peasant. The peasant, having failed to land his attack, felt his heart sink.

He tried to stay calm, looking for another opportunity, but was suddenly faced with the flying corpse of his companion.

Although the peasant stabbed with his second spear, he had to dodge the body, which made the angle of his thrust skewed, and instead of hitting the Earth Bear, his wooden spear was trapped under the latter’s arm.

The peasant exerted all his strength, but the wooden spear didn’t budge.

Then, his abdomen was pierced by the pitchfork.

In the end, the assassin, seeing two companions killed in quick succession, completely lost the will to fight and turned to run.

The Earth Bear didn’t chase after him but simply scoffed and said, "Whoever kills him, I’ll take with me to the next round."

The competitors who had been standing aside felt their hearts surge upon hearing this, having no doubt about the Earth Bear’s promise, for he had shown overwhelming strength already.

So the remaining assassin was ultimately hacked to death by the frantic slashes of the crowd.

The Earth Bear casually pointed at a teenager around seventeen or eighteen, "You, come over here."

At his words, the teenager was overjoyed and, without even bothering to wipe the blood off his scythe, hurried over to the Earth Bear’s side.

Someone expressed dissatisfaction, "He was killed by us. By the time he made his move, the man was already dead."

The Earth Bear drawled lazily, "Shut up, I say it’s him, so it’s him. There’s one spot left, hurry up and fight it out, or I’ll take matters into my own hands soon."

The remaining competitors heard this and, while angry, dared not speak out and quickly commenced fighting one another, soon determining the final victor.

The referee glanced at the corpses on the ground and those wailing, announcing the Earth Bear and his two companions had successfully advanced to the next round.
