Chapter 486: Chapter 104 Thomas, Are You Going to Break Your Vows?
Though the assassin was severely injured and trapped, she hadn’t given up all hope and drew another dagger from her waist, clutching it in her hand.
But as soon as she swung it, someone grabbed her wrist.
"Remember, we need her alive!" Lady Ireya’s voice rang out again.
Thomas nodded and applied a bit of pressure to his grip. The assassin immediately felt a sharp pain radiating from her wrist and could no longer hold onto the dagger, letting it fall to the ground.
Her body swayed, nearly collapsing along with it.
In the end, it was Thomas who steadied her, but as he did, the expression on the Guard Captain’s face changed subtly, "A woman?"
Thomas had indeed had some suspicions when he first saw the assassin because she had a petite stature, which suggested she might be either a young boy or a woman.
The assassin didn’t respond, as she had already fainted.
Thomas then removed her hood, and the first thing he saw was a pair of small pointed ears on top of her head.
The Guard Captain also removed her veil, revealing a delicate and exquisite face beneath, especially her eyes, which were heterochromatic.
Thomas was slightly taken aback, then carefully lifted her body, being careful not to touch the terrible wound on her back, and brought her into the inn.
The Sabbath practitioners from the Double Rest Sect immediately began to heal her.
They first poured a lot of Yunnan Baiyao into the wound, then took an iron needle used for sewing clothes, heated it on the fire, threaded it with a fine thread, and began to suture the injury.
Lady Ireya was quite excited at the moment, pacing back and forth around the female assassin.
It had only been a day since Merlin had set up the trap, and unexpectedly, the assassin had delivered herself into their hands, caught red-handed.
Miss Rabbit then thought of something and turned to look at Crow and the others, only to see their faces filled with astonishment, looking as if they hadn’t understood what had just happened.
Although Lady Ireya suspected that these young Squire Knights from the Third Knight Order had been instructed by the Life Church to coordinate with the female assassin’s actions that night.
But looking at their expressions, they didn’t seem to be feigning ignorance; it was likely just a one-sided cooperation, and they had been completely kept in the dark by Cornelia.
This wasn’t surprising; after all, the Life Church had numerous followers among the upper echelons of the Royal Capital’s nobility. They didn’t even need a Female Priest to show up personally; through a certain Noble Family, they could easily stir people into action.
With this in mind, Ireya couldn’t be bothered with Crow and the others anymore, and she waved them off, "Go on, there’s nothing for you here."
Upon hearing this, Crow didn’t move but asked curiously, "That person just now was...?"
"It’s none of your business. If you don’t want another beating, stop prying."
Crow was immediately choked by her words and felt his anger reignite.
These men, relying on their family backgrounds, had been used to swaggering through the Royal Capital, unbridled and unrestrained, until they joined the Royal Knight Order and started to conform a bit.
Yet, in this single evening, they had suffered more snubs than in the past decade combined.
And they couldn’t even talk back, as they had already been dealt with once and hadn’t even managed to engage Ireya in a real fight before they were defeated by her men.
Saying any more at this time would only invite further humiliation, so Crow left with just one remark.
"Ireya of the Vespasian Dragon Slayer Knight of the Arias Family, I’ll remember you, looking forward to meeting you at the tournament."
After speaking, he mounted his horse and, with his five companions, disappeared into the night.
As for the Lady, she had grown numb to such threats, having realized that from the moment she set foot on this territory, which belonged to the Life Church, she could forget about making any friends.
Anyway, as long as His Majesty the Emperor continued to regard her favorably, at least on the surface, no one dared to lay a hand on her. Even the Priest of Cornelia had to consider Edward II’s mood before making a move on her.
Although the Emperor was all ears to the Female Priest and even requested everyone to donate money for a bronze statue of the goddess, the Empire ultimately belonged to the Vespasian Family, not the Life Church.
Thinking of the Life Church, Ireya’s attention returned to the female assassin.
The latter had previously snuck into her room to place a wooden carving as a warning. What could be the reason for this intrusion?
The Lady thought for a moment and decided it was pointless to rack her brains; it was best to directly interrogate the person once she woke up, which is why she had insisted that Thomas leave a survivor.
However, at the moment the female assassin was still unconscious, and Miss Rabbit didn’t just wait around; she went back to her room to sleep.
So she slept soundly until late morning, and the two body sensors in the room did not go off again.
After a good sleep, the Lady felt refreshed, as if her worries about the upcoming martial arts competition had somewhat dissipated.
Then she arrived at the room where the female assassin was being held.
The two guards from the Arias family standing at the door saluted her immediately upon seeing her. Ireya nodded and casually asked, "Who is inside watching?"
"Captain Thomas," answered one of the guards.
"Thomas? When did he arrive?"
"The Captain has been there all night," the guard replied.
The Lady was taken aback, "Ha, that means he didn’t sleep at all. Is this guy trying to violate the Sabbath Sect’s precepts? Without any threat to life, he intends to work continuously for an entire day."
"Lady Ireya, I haven’t worked continuously for an entire day," Thomas’s voice came from inside the room, "I didn’t accompany you to the Imperial Palace yesterday morning because I was on leave."
"Then you’ve still exceeded your work hours," said Miss Rabbit as she pushed the door open and entered.
There she saw her Guard Captain sitting upright beside the bed, staring intently at the figure on it.
"Not yet. Because it is considered a new day after the sun rises, as long as I rest before noon, it does not count as breaking the precept."
"Is that how it works?" The Lady stroked her chin, doubtful, "Besides, this task of watching someone doesn’t necessarily have to be done by you."
"Ah, after all, the other party is an assassin, and moreover, she is agile and light on her feet, beyond the scope of normalcy. She might have consumed a Bloodline Potion, so we can’t be too careful."
"Is that so." The Lady continued, "Then why not simply tie her hands and feet together?"
Thomas was stunned, "That... hadn’t occurred to me."
"That’s not like you; you’re usually very cautious. If you don’t restrain her, and she’s pretending to be asleep, it would be troublesome if she suddenly jumped up and harmed someone."
"It shouldn’t come to that; she’s too injured."
"It’s always better to be careful. I’ll have someone bring some rope, and in the meantime, I’ll relieve you so you can get some rest." After saying this, Miss Rabbit turned to leave.
Just at that moment, the female assassin, who had previously been unconscious, suddenly opened her eyes and leaped from the bed.
But the next moment, Thomas grabbed her by the neck and reflexively threw her against the wall.
