Chapter 452: Chapter 70: The Mature and Wise Lord

The farmhouse was not difficult to find, since the townspeople deliberately avoided that place when leaving the city.

After a simple wash, Ireya and Li Yu went there together.

However, a team of guards were stationed outside the farmhouse, tasked both with preventing those inside from escaping and prohibiting outsiders from entering.

The team’s leader, named Sola, came forward to greet the approaching Lady after spotting her.

"You say you are..."

"The daughter of Blood-Eye Ruse, the Dragon Slayer Knight, the Family Head of the Arias family, Ireya," the Lady replied.

"Dragon Slayer Knight Ireya, I have heard of your great reputation," Sola said, "I have no doubt of your valor, but I fear that what we are about to face, even you might be powerless against."

"It’s okay, Prophet Merlin is also here," Ireya pointed to Li Yu beside her.

"Prophet?" Sola looked at the foreigner dressed in black foreign clothing up and down with suspicion.

"I am Prophet Merlin of the Double Rest Sect," Li Yu said, "I want to go in and have a look, if it is indeed the curse I understand, I might be able to lift it for some of them."

"That’s impossible!" Sola stated emphatically, "Priest Helbert has already examined those people and determined there is no hope for them."

"It may be so for him and the God he serves, but not for me and my God," Li Yu said.

"You’d best be careful with your words, Foreigner," Sola warned, "The people of this land all worship the Earth and Grain God Julius, blessed by its grace, your alien gods are not welcome here!"

Having said this, he then looked towards the Lady, "Sir Ireya, duty binds me, and I cannot allow you to proceed further."

Although the guards responsible for watching the estate were few and neither their weapons nor their skills matched those of the guards from the Arias family and the Black Dog Guard.

But after all, this was on someone else’s territory, and it wouldn’t be right for the Lady to just barge in with her people.

She didn’t make things difficult for the dutiful Guard Captain and said to Li Yu, "Let’s go directly to the local Lord instead."

Li Yu nodded, "That sounds good."

Back at the inn, Ireya changed her clothes, had the Arias family’s Rabbit flag unfurled, and then headed straight to the City Lord Mansion.

There they met the ruler of the fertile corner, Lord Greymane Wild, from the Singleton Family.

The Lord’s stature was somewhat short, but his countenance was exceptionally commanding, and a pair of growths under his eyes made them appear unusually large, as if he was glaring at everyone.

"Are you really the Dragon Slayer Knight Ireya?!" Wild articulated, "Why don’t you look as imposing and robust as the rumors say?"

Before the Lady could respond, his gaze had already shifted to Li Yu on the side.

"And you, who are you? Why are you wearing such strange attire?"

An emaciated old man beside him, dressed in brown with a sheaf of wheat embroidered on his chest, whispered something into his ear at that moment.

"The Double Rest Sect? What kind of church is that, aren’t all the nobles in the West devoted to the Silver Moon Goddess Pexia?" Wild frowned as he said this.

"I converted to Saturday half a year ago, Sir Wild."

"Call me Greymane, so you’ve forsaken your family’s faith of hundreds of years?"

"Because I have found a God worthy of following."

"What Saturday—Julius is the God more worthy of faith," Wild uttered a disdainful snort.

"Ever since we started believing in it, we’ve had more and more harvests, isn’t that right, Priest Helbert."

"Indeed, my lord." The old man named Helbert bowed.

"Enough of that, now that you have come to the Fertile Corner, according to noble etiquette, I must entertain you properly. I have already ordered people to prepare a luncheon to show you the richness of my domain."

"Wild, oh no... Lord Greymane, we are actually here to ask for a favor." Miss Rabbit had no choice but to interrupt Wild’s monologue.

"What matter?" He chuckled, then spat a blob of phlegm beside his foot.

"We’d like to take a look at one of your farms."

"A farm?" Wild appeared puzzled, "The winter wheat has already been harvested; you won’t see anything now..."

"It’s the farm where the cursed are held captive."

After Ireya said this, the atmosphere in the hall suddenly stiffened. Then, she saw Wild’s face on the main seat turn red, like a piece of pig’s liver.

The lord of the Fertile Corner roared, "I treat you as guests, look how you repay me! No manners, barbaric and primitive, that’s what they all say about those Western savages, and it’s absolutely true!!!"

Priest Helbert by his side patted Wild’s back to help the city lord calm his breath, while turning his head to Ireya and Li Yu.

"Sir Wild has lost two sons to that terrible curse, and just two days ago he personally sent his own granddaughter there as well. You shouldn’t have brought this up in front of him."

"Donia, my poor granddaughter!" Greymane let out a dry cry, then broke into loud sobbing.

It was hard to imagine a noble, let alone a city lord, weeping openly in front of guests. Seeing Lord Greymane cry so sorrowfully, the Lady’s anger at his earlier rudeness had also dissipated somewhat.

She spoke again, "Don’t worry, we are here to help you."

"Help me, with just you people? You foreigners know nothing about what’s happening on this land."

"I have seen similar curses before," Li Yu said.

"Impossible," Helbert shook his head, "This is a trial from Julius for us. If you do not wish to attend the upcoming luncheon, then you should leave now."

"At least let us try, Prophet Merlin is very adept at removing curses," Ireya shouted at Wild, "he can even bring the dead back to life."

"That’s just the trickery of foreigners. Apart from God, no one can bring the dead back to life," said Helbert.

"Let this poor man rest, even if just for a moment of peace. Don’t fill his head with hollow words of hope only to snatch it away again; he can’t take another blow like that."

"Do you really want to give up at a time like this?" Ireya retorted, not leaving but stepping forward instead, "Think of Donia, think of the other people in this city—you still have a chance to save them."

"That’s just the absurd babble of heathens..."

"Enough!" Greymane bellowed, interrupting everyone. Afterward, he looked at Li Yu.

"You are eloquent. I imagine that’s why the young girl from the Arias family was bewitched by you. But I am different; I am a mature and wise Lord with firm faith."

Li Yu did not speak; he just stretched out his hand, motioned with his fingers, and the wine cup in front of Wild flew into his hand.
