Chapter 340: Chapter 98 Awakened

After taking down two guards outside the small building, Tom drew his Dwarf Treasure Sword from his waist and charged in first!

By this time, most people inside the building were already asleep, and the hall was empty.

Tom didn’t rush to climb to the second floor but searched every room on the first floor one by one, finding a cook, two maids, and a gardener.

All four were still in their dreams when their mouths were stuffed, and their hands and feet were bound, then they were all taken to the kitchen.

Tom left two men to watch over them, and then continued upward, but this time he encountered some trouble.

No sooner had he climbed to the second floor than he came across a man, dressed exactly like the guards at the gate below.

Upon seeing Tom, he immediately tried to draw his sword, but the next moment at least three Crossbow Arrows struck his body.

However, in the last moment before death, he struggled to lunge to the right side, crashing into a room.

Without giving it much thought, Tom guarded his chest and head with the Dragon Scale Shield and also leaped into the room.

Unexpectedly, the room contained as many as eleven people, all guards.

And to Tom’s surprise, most of these people were not even asleep in the middle of the night, with most dressed and their weapons at hand.

Tom’s face changed slightly; he hadn’t expected his luck to be so bad as to stumble upon a change of the guard shifts.

But complaining was useless now, and instead of leaving the room, Tom took two more steps forward and swung his sword at a tall, thin man to his right front.

The man, shocked at the sight of his comrade’s body, saw a flash of cold light coming toward his chest and subconsciously took a step back.

Tom didn’t pursue, instead, he turned to stab another person nearby.

He firmly held his position by the door, allowing the other Black Hound warriors to enter the room smoothly, and the two sides immediately clashed.

The guards were generally skilled, with half of them being Half-Beasts with rich combat experience, but weren’t as outrageous as those in the Black Armored Cavalry.

Under fair conditions, Tom could still win a one-on-one duel, and the Lizardman Warriors, with their weapons and gear, could also hold their own.

However, the fiercest of them all was Golden Eyes. Eager to prove his worth, he spared no one and took on three enemies by himself, decapitating one immediately and the remaining two didn’t last much longer, quickly succumbing.

This unexpected battle ended swiftly.

After a short while, there were no standing guards left in the room, and the air was filled with a thick smell of blood.

On the side of the Double Rest Sect, only two Lizardman Warriors suffered minor injuries, and another one was wounded by a sword on his waist which had been bandaged to temporarily stop the bleeding. With the help of his companions, he could still continue to walk.

The only trouble was that the commotion was rather loud, likely waking up the other people on this floor.

Tom simply stopped concealing his presence and divided his men into groups to search the building inside and out in the fastest way possible.

However, an unexpected event occurred, he could not find Clara among them.

Luckily a Lizardman Warrior found some clothes and bed sheets embroidered with Chinese characters in a room at the end of the corridor.

Tom took one of the cotton garments to Nema.

After observing for a while, Tom had noticed that other people in the castle seemed to have some fear of this stern-faced old woman who always kept a straight face, and many were acting according to her looks.

So, she was most likely in charge here.

Without wasting words, Tom got straight to the point, "Where is the owner of this garment now?"

"Damn heathens, you can kill us, but you’ll never get a word out of our mouths," Nema replied coldly.

Tom frowned, realizing that the old woman wasn’t just pretending to be tough; she genuinely believed what she said, having prepared herself to sacrifice for her faith. Such people were the most difficult to deal with.

Moreover, she was quite old and a woman; it wouldn’t be good to resort to torture.

So, Tom shifted his gaze from her and looked at the others, "Can anyone answer my question? I may spare his or her life."

"......"

The room remained silent.

Seeing this, Nema’s face showed a satisfied smile.

But the next moment, her smile froze as Tom continued, "Separate them, one person per room. I’ll interrogate them one by one. Take her away first."

Tom pointed at Nema.

After the others were led out of the hall, only Tom and a maid remained.

Tom spoke again, "Alright, if you have anything to say, now is the time."

"Are you from the Double Rest Sect?"

"Yes."

"How can you prove it?" the maid was very cautious.

Tom took out a walkie-talkie from his waist, and said into it, "Fly in."

A while later, the maid heard a buzzing sound, and then a DJI drone flew into the room through a window.

"Is this... the Three-eyed Divine Bird?!" The maid recognized the object immediately.

This time, it was Tom who was surprised, "You recognize the Three-eyed Divine Bird too?"

"Mary told me," said the maid. "She also said that the Double Rest Sect possessed Holy Artifacts that could record sound and images."

"You know Mary?"

"My name is Ruby; I’m Mary’s friend. You’re a step too late; Hirodod’s men took her away not long ago."

"Where did they go?"

"I don’t know, I’m just a maid," Ruby said. "Did you find this place because you saw the handkerchief I left on the wall? Mary said the Three-eyed Divine Bird could overlook scenes from the sky."

"Exactly, thank you," Tom paused, then asked, "Do you know why Hirodod wants Mary?"

"He seeks out Mary when he’s uncertain about something."

"Hm?" Tom doubted his ears, this was the second time he had encountered such a bizarre statement.

"Oh, to be precise, it’s through Mary that he contacts Pisya."

"Really, does Mary have the ability to communicate with the Silver Moon Goddess?" Tom’s eyes widened in surprise.

"Of course not, in fact, Miss Mary has just been using various small experiments she learned from Prophet Merlin to deal with Hirodod, feigning the illusion of being able to communicate with Pisya," Ruby explained.

"However, Hirodod has always come here to find Mary in the past; only today was the exception, when he sent someone to take Mary away," Ruby said, a look of concern appearing on her face.

Tom frowned, now hesitating, unsure whether to stay and wait for Clara to return or to go out and continue the search.
