Chapter 336: Chapter 94: Hope

"You know who I am."

The mysterious voice reached Golden Eyes’s ears again, accompanied by a series of eerie sizzling sounds, causing all the hairs on Golden Eyes’s body to stand on end.

He considered himself a sufficiently cold-hearted man, not ever moved by the countless innocent blood stained on his hands, yet at that moment, an inexplicable panic seized his heart.

It was the most instinctual fear humans feel in the face of the unknown.

"I know you’re definitely hiding in this room. You can’t scare me!" Golden Eyes shouted, his eyes darting under the bed, under the table, and up at the roof, hoping to spot Li Yu’s figure there.

However, reality slapped him hard—Golden Eyes searched every possible hiding spot around him, but found not a single trace of a person.

Li Yu’s voice continued, "Stop shouting. My body isn’t here. Let’s get back to the main topic. You were the one who kidnapped Mary, weren’t you?"

Golden Eyes, panting heavily, did not answer.

"If you don’t speak, I’ll take it as a yes," Li Yu said. "But even if you deny it, it’s useless. I have a witness. A farmer saw you all riding away from Green Field. Where is Mary now?"

"That girl? She’s dead. Hirodod killed her shortly after I brought her back," Golden Eyes’s words made Tom and Redio tense up.

Li Yu, on the other end of the radio, also fell silent.

After a moment, he asked again, "Why did Hirodod kidnap Mary?"

"I don’t know. I’m just a doer. Whatever the people above tell me to do, I do, without asking questions. That’s why I have managed to stay alive until now."

"How many more like you are there?"

"I don’t know," Golden Eyes shook his head.

"Prophet, torture him," Tom pulled out a small knife from his waist. "To deal with this kind of guy, we need to be ruthless. Cut off one of his fingers first, then ask again."

"Is that the cruelest thing you can think of?" Golden Eyes scoffed. "If you were in my hands, I guarantee I would show you what real pain is."

Before he had finished speaking, a flash of knife light passed before his eyes, and then a piece of his thumb flew up, landing at his feet, rolling half a circle on the ground.

And Golden Eyes was truly tough. Even though the pain twisted his entire face, he still bit down on his lip hard, without screaming, only emitting a growl like a wild animal from his throat.

"Losing a right thumb, you can no longer be a top swordsman," Tom said coldly.

Golden Eyes glared fiercely at him, the look in his eyes terrifying enough to make Redio shiver beside him.

"I warned you not to come back to Green Field," Li Yu’s voice again came from the radio, unusually tinged with a hint of anger.

"Yet you ignored my words. You came back and took Mary, causing her to die at Hirodod’s hands. I should kill you, to avenge Mary."

"Then go ahead," Golden Eyes rasped.

"Not so fast," Li Yu said, "I still have one last question, purely to satisfy my own curiosity. Why are you so loyal to Hirodod? From the moment you opened your eyes, you’ve constantly provoked Jerry, wanting him to kill you. What, is betraying Hirodod more frightening to you than death?"

Golden Eyes took a deep breath, "You know nothing of his methods."

"No, you know nothing of my methods," Li Yu said lightly.

Golden Eyes couldn’t refute, and suddenly he remembered the conversation he had with Clara before they parted.

Golden Eyes, whose heart had been as still as dead water, felt a ripple for the first time in a long while.

Wait, if it was this person, maybe he could really do it.

Even counting this time, Golden Eyes had only met Li Yu twice, and the second time he hadn’t even seen Li Yu’s face, yet these brief encounters had shocked Golden Eyes three times.

He had witnessed Li Yu running on water, disappearing from a sack, and now, without even seeing Li Yu himself, he had heard his voice.

Such feats were already akin to those of a God.

Golden Eyes’s breathing turned rapid, yet he didn’t know how to broach the topic, given their past grievances, he doubted Li Yu would still be willing to help him.

"Forget it, if you don’t want to talk, then don’t," said Li Yu, "Jerry, he’s yours now, see if you can get anything more out of him."

Tom had been waiting impatiently and walked over with big strides, his knife poised for action.

Golden Eyes closed his eyes, but just then, a chaotic noise erupted from downstairs, accompanied by women’s screams and the sound of tables being overturned.

Tom moved to the window and took one look down, his face changed immediately.

"It’s Hirodod’s new forces, there are quite a few, certainly over a hundred, they have surrounded this place," he grimaced.

Redio tensed up at these words, "Are they coming for us?"

"Looks like it."

"But didn’t that cripple say this place was absolutely safe, has he betrayed us?"

"Don’t know, now’s not the time to dwell on this," Tom pulled out a dagger and a hand crossbow from under the bed and tossed them to Redio.

"Here, for your protection. We’ll cover you and make a break for it, yet we need to ensure the Holy Artifact is brought back to Green Field unscathed."

He said so, but Tom wasn’t particularly confident.

A hundred farmers and thieves didn’t seem like much in Tom’s eyes, they only had thirteen people, but apart from Redio, all were elite members of the Black Dog Guards, armed with weapons and armor.

However, once a fight broke out, it would surely attract other people in the city, and their enemies would only increase. Even if he managed to lead his team to the city gates, if the gates were shut, they’d still be dead.

At this moment, Golden Eyes actually saw a flicker of hope and opened his eyes again, "Let me do it, I can make those guys downstairs go away, just release me, let me negotiate with them."

"Do you think we’re fools? If we release you, you’ll definitely turn around and come at us with those guys," Tom was not falling for it, "I’d rather use you as a hostage, try and see if Hirodod would let us leave."

"Hirodod won’t agree, my life isn’t worth much in his eyes."

As the noises from below grew closer, Golden Eyes became more anxious, "The person you’re looking for isn’t dead, I lied to you before. Release me, I can lead you to her."

"You sound even more like you’re lying now," Tom had already taken out the Dragon Scale Shield and the Dwarf Treasure Sword.

"Save your energy, whatever happens, I can assure you of one thing, you will definitely die before me," Tom said, flicking his hair.
