Chapter 335: Chapter 93: Who... Who is Talking?
Li Yu learned about the situation in Duolin City from Redio’s report, but he wasn’t too surprised.
He had been reading "The History of the Crusades" recently, and the first Crusade, which was a peasants’ crusade, was not much different from the new army that Hirodod was assembling.
Their leader, Peter the Hermit, couldn’t control this troop either, and even before they entered enemy territory, they had already begun to burn, kill, and plunder in allied lands.
And when they finally faced the enemy, their combat effectiveness was not nearly as strong as it had been on home ground, and they were quickly decimated, with barely one in ten surviving.
So Li Yu wasn’t very optimistic about the outcome of the upcoming battle for Hirodod’s side either.
"I remember you once said that compared to Priest Martina, Hirodod is more troublesome. If he loses, isn’t that a good thing?" Miss Rabbit said while she shook the dice.
She was playing Ludo with Li Yu and was close to winning, needing just a roll of 6.
"I’m beginning to not understand him now," Li Yu said.
"What don’t you understand?"
"According to the messages from Redio, Hirodod’s behavior has been a bit strange lately, different from before."
"Hmm?"
"He doesn’t seem to have as strong a purpose in what he does anymore," Li Yu observed as the Lady rolled the dice, it came up a 5, one short, "It’s like he is rolling dice."
"You mean to say that Hirodod is also deciding his next move based on the throw of dice like us now?"
The Lady scratched her long ears, "What, is he also playing chess with someone? But I see that Priest Martina’s side has been steady all along, and the Church Protection Army should arrive at Duolin City in another day’s time, right?"
At her words, Li Yu’s expression grew grave.
Once the battle starts, the situation for both Clara and Tom’s group will become dangerous, especially once the city falls, who knows how much damage the victors and the defeated army will do to the town.
Just then, Redio’s voice came through the shortwave radio beside them.
"Prophet, Prophet, are you there? We’ve found some more clues, but now we’re also facing a new difficulty."
"What difficulty?" Li Yu asked.
"We’ve been monitoring Hirodod these days and noticed that when facing significant decisions, he likes to go to a certain place, always accompanied by his most trusted guards.
"Last night we deployed the Three-eyed Divine Bird you bestowed upon us, sneaking to that place. Unfortunately, there was no one outside at that time, and we didn’t dare let the Divine Bird fly too low for fear of being spotted by the guards inside. But we zoomed in the image and found something else."
"What did you find?"
"There was a handkerchief pinned under a wall that could only be seen from the sky, and at the center of the handkerchief there was a strange pattern embroidered."
"A strange pattern, can you describe it?"
"Of course, first there was a stick with a triangle on top, beneath which were, um... two horseshoes and a hook, followed by a fish..."
Li Yu took a piece of paper and drew the strange pattern as Redio described it.
After looking it over many times, from all angles, he also handed it to Miss Rabbit who shook her head after examining it, asserting, "The Silver Moon Church doesn’t have such a peculiar Divine Pattern."
"So this must be from another Church?" Li Yu frowned, "Hirodod has connections with another church too? Could he just be a puppet, hmm, that would explain why his actions have been so strange lately.
"Because he has always been manipulated."
"Wow, the Silver Moon Church is in big trouble now," the Lady remarked with a touch of schadenfreude.
"So, this pattern has nothing to do with Miss Mary," Redio continued, "then let’s go look for other clues."
"Captain Jerry has been considering attaching a Divine Ear to Hirodod these past few days, but Hirodod has been very cautious, and he hasn’t found an opportunity yet."
As Redio was speaking, a voice from outside suddenly came, "Quick, open the door."
Upon hearing this, Redio subconsciously thought to turn off the radio, but by that time the door had already opened.
Tom walked in carrying a stranger.
Redio’s eyes widened, "What are you doing? Why did you bring a stranger in here? This will expose us!"
"Don’t worry, he won’t see tomorrow’s sun," Tom said.
"He’s dead?"
"Not yet, but he will be soon. Through these days, by making use of the Divine Eye and the Divine Ear for surveillance, we’ve confirmed that he is one of the few Hirodod trusts the most, always doing things in secret for Hirodod.
"So, he must know a lot of Hirodod’s secrets, which likely includes Miss Mary’s whereabouts."
Tom threw the captive onto the table, then asked Redio, "Do you have any water in here?"
"Uh, no, I’ll go draw some from the well for you."
"No need for that trouble," Tom said, as he grabbed a chamber pot from under the bed, removed the man’s helmet, and poured the contents directly over his head.
The latter was awakened by the cold urine being poured on him, and whether it was from choking or the stench, he began to cough loudly.
And when he opened his eyes, Redio was shocked to find that they were golden.
Although the man was captured, his expression wasn’t one of panic. Instead, he looked provocatively at Redio and Tom, "You’re the ones who are doomed."
"It’s hard to say whether we are going to die, but you truly are on your deathbed, buddy," Tom said casually.
"What kind of hero attacks from behind? If you have the guts, untie me and let’s fight fair and square. If you win, I’ll tell you whatever you want to know. How about that?" the man proposed.
"That’s...," Tom seemed to be hesitating, but then he kicked the captive hard in the chest, "Of course not, I don’t have to fight you to make you talk."
"Really? Then what are you waiting for? How do you plan to torture me? With your sword, your boots, or that square box on the bed?"
It was only after this reminder that Redio realized he seemed to have forgotten to turn off the radio. Just as he was about to reach for it, Li Yu’s voice came from inside.
"Jerry, the captive you caught, does he have a pair of golden eyes?"
"Prophet, yes," Tom said with a start, and then respectfully, "Indeed, he has a pair of golden pupils."
"Then I haven’t misidentified him," Li Yu said. "This man is the captain of the Black Armored Cavalry who attacked us in the forest that night."
Upon hearing this, the expressions of both Tom and the one with Golden Eyes changed.
Especially Golden Eyes, his pupils suddenly narrowed, "Who is it that’s speaking?"
