Chapter 311: Chapter 69: Don’t Make Blind Conjectures
"I want to go too," An Yixin said.
"It will bring you trouble."
"I can hide on the side, making sure I won’t be discovered. Uncle, if you get stabbed again, I could cover for you like last time, waiting for you to come back to life."
"Last time was an accident, I won’t get stabbed again," Li Yu said. "And what’s going to happen next isn’t suitable for minors to see."
"You adults are really hypocritical. The world is obviously a mess, yet you force us kids to believe it’s not broken. Then, when we enter society, you complain that we stayed in an ivory tower too long and don’t understand anything."
"Rules are rules. There’s no right or wrong to them. You can’t complain about the world like a social critic every day. Accept the rules early, adapt to them, and life will be easier for you later on," Li Yu reminded her.
"And what about you, uncle? Are you adapting to the social rules? Normal people would stay away from delinquents like Wang Kai and Song Xiaofei. Even if they’re bullied, they would endure it if possible. Besides, you died and came back to life. Is that following social rules?"
An Yixin looked at Li Yu with eyes full of longing.
"Uncle, you... you’re actually a vampire, right? Like the kind in movies and comics, who survive by drinking other people’s blood. That would explain why at the hot pot, it was only me and that sister eating—you hardly touched your chopsticks—because you’re not used to human food; what you like is humans."
"Don’t make wild guesses. I had simply eaten earlier," Li Yu replied.
However, An Yixin obviously didn’t believe him. She continued on her own, "And you can’t be killed. I want to be a vampire too. Uncle, bite me. My blood is fresh, for you to drink."
The junior high school girl rolled up her school uniform sleeve as she spoke, revealing her arm.
Li Yu was exasperated, "There are no such creatures as vampires in this world, and I don’t suck anyone’s blood."
But considering he was now immortal and even working in another universe, he wasn’t too sure, so he cautiously added, "Anyway, I’ve never seen one."
"Werewolf?"
"Don’t know."
"Zombie?"
"Do I look like the kind of brainless creature to you?"
"A really smart mutated zombie?" An Yixin’s speculations were becoming more and more preposterous.
"Stop guessing. You won’t figure it out, and I am not contagious. Sorry, but I am not the life raft for your troubled life."
"God," An Yixin took a deep breath. "Uncle, you’re a god, aren’t you?"
Li Yu glanced at the junior high school girl and shook his head to deny, "No."
An Yixin seemed a bit deflated and leaned back, "Wang Kai and Song Xiaofei are right now at the Golden Light Billiards Hall. That pool hall is owned by Song Xiaofei’s uncle. They hang out there when they’re in a bad mood."
"Good, thank you for the information. Go home and do your homework," he said.
Li Yu checked the location of the Golden Light Pool Hall on his phone and found it was about 800 meters away. He picked up his suit jacket and headed for the door of the hot pot restaurant. However, after a short walk, he realized An Yixin was still following him.
Seeing that Li Yu had turned to look at her, An Yixin spoke first, "The road is for everyone; if you can walk it, so can I."
"Then where are you going?"
"To the Golden Light Billiards Hall."
"..."
"Aren’t minors not allowed inside billiards halls?"
"I’m at the door, not going in."
"Do you really have to join the bustle?" Li Yu raised his eyebrows.
"I won’t cause any trouble for you, besides, Uncle, you’re not my dad. You can’t control where I go, can you?"
"Forget it, do as you please."
In the end, Li Yu had no choice but to give in and, ignoring An Yixin behind him, followed the directions to the entrance of Golden Light Billiards Hall.
Li Yu stuck his head in first for a glance and quickly spotted his targets at table number three. Apart from Wang Kai and Song Xiaofei, there was also a pure-looking girl with them, probably one of their girlfriends.
Li Yu also noticed the surveillance cameras overhead. He didn’t walk further inside to enter the camera’s range, but instead walked straight past the entrance, continuing forward while keeping an eye on his surroundings.
He came across an old residential complex and followed a resident riding a small electric scooter inside. Then, Li Yu found an apartment unit with a broken door lock and hastily climbed up to the rooftop.
After surveying the place, Li Yu decided this was the spot.
He took out his phone, opened the Meituan delivery app, set his location to an apartment in the complex, with Golden Light Pool Hall as the destination. He wrote Wang Kai’s name as the recipient and used a different mobile phone card for the number.
By the time the delivery guy arrived at the complex, Li Yu was already downstairs. He handed over a USB drive and a folded letter, then headed back to the rooftop.
An Yixin wanted to follow him up again, but Li Yu stopped her.
"No, there’s nowhere to hide up there."
An Yixin tried the same trick again, "The rooftop is for everyone to..."
"The rooftop belongs to the residents of the complex, but I need to borrow it for a while, and you’re not allowed up here."
Li Yu stood in front of the iron door leading to the roof. "Wang Kai and Song Xiaofei will be here soon. You’d better leave this building before they arrive."
"How can you be so sure they’ll come?"
"The USB contains the fight footage I edited earlier. If they don’t want to get jailed after seeing the video, they’ll come here as instructed in the note. Yeah, they’ll probably think the person who wrote the note wants to extort a large sum of money from them using the footage."
"What if they call for help?"
"I’ve warned them that if they do that, the footage from that night will be sent straight to the police station."
"There are two of them."
"No worries, I’m prepared this time, and I’ve even had some special training done beforehand."
"Alright then." An Yixin couldn’t find any more excuses and reluctantly glanced behind Li Yu before turning and walking back down the stairs.
Afterward, Li Yu found a spot and sat down.
About two minutes later, the Rider called to say a delivery had arrived. Li Yu gave him the pickup code and instructed him to leave it at the pool hall’s front desk before leaving.
Then, Li Yu waited for another ten to twenty minutes. The sound of footsteps and curses echoed in the hallway, "Damn it, trying to blackmail us, that guy must be sick of living."
Another voice said, "Keep it down, don’t let others hear you. If we can settle this with money, it’s not a bad deal."
"Impossible," the first voice scoffed, "these people are insatiable. Once you agree to them once, they’ll cling to you forever, chewing you down to the bone before letting go. The best way is to give them a harsh lesson."
"Ahh..." The other voice sighed, "If only you hadn’t been so impulsive that night."
"Damn it, how was I supposed to know that a white-collar guy could fight so fiercely, like he was out for blood."
