Chapter 259: Chapter 17 Deification

This was already the second time Li Yu had appeared naked in room number eight.

Fortunately, this time he was prepared.

Squatting on the ground and waiting for the dizziness in his head to gradually subside, Li Yu got up, opened the spare backpack in the corner.

Inside, there was a complete set of spare clothes from underwear to socks. Besides that, there was also a spare mobile phone with a SIM card, a mask, and some change.

Li Yu got dressed, picked up the mobile phone and change, and walked out the door.

The corridor was very quiet.

Probably influenced by the corporate culture, just minutes after work ended there was hardly anyone left in the company.

Even the administrative girl with two dimples when she smiled had clocked out and gone home.

Li Yu still saw a coupon for Korean fried chicken she had left at the front desk, along with a half-eaten pack of dried plums.

However, after making a round in the corridor, Li Yu did not see which room was being renovated, nor did he know where Xu Mengyuan had arranged his office.

His gaze finally fell on the digital clock on the wall again.

The countdown timer was still ticking, and judging by the frequency of the changes, it was counting seconds.

So Li Yu pulled out his phone, entered the eight-digit number, converted it into days, and found the time was about 1106 days, just over three years.

Li Yu marked that day on the calendar on his phone, took a cursory glance, but saw nothing special about it.

He searched for the date online, and the results that came up were only the corresponding old almanac.

It said auspicious for weddings, funerals, moving into a house.

Li Yu put away his phone and walked out of the office building.

On the subway ride home, he began to ponder a question, whether he could still be considered... a person.

Leaving aside the jumbled equipment, he had now initiated two, or perhaps three, divine sequences, gaining the ability to understand any language, to resurrect from death, and to walk on water.

These abilities had certainly had an impact on him. For instance, just now, his choice to lead the pursuers away alone, giving Tom and the others a chance to survive, was based on his newly acquired ability to walk on water and the characteristic of returning to this universe on time, and of course, his immortal body.

But these abilities undoubtedly went beyond the scope of normal humans; in some sense, he indeed began to resemble a god more and more, especially like a certain famous brother in the "New Testament."

Li Yu was unsure whether this was good or bad, but at least for now, it had indeed helped him a lot at work.

To soothe the dissatisfaction of being stuffed into a sack just now, and to compensate for the energy wasted in the escape, Li Yu decided not to cook that evening. He stopped at a small restaurant next to his neighborhood to eat, enjoying the air conditioning while dipping lamb into the hot pot.

Through the glass of the hotpot restaurant and the misty vapor, Li Yu saw that disheveled-haired junior high school girl with headphones around her neck again.

She walked into a convenience store across the street, her head down, and bought a can of cola. However, while the owner was scanning the barcodes, she quickly grabbed something from the shelf in front of the cashier and stuffed it into her pocket.

Then, as if nothing had happened, she took out her phone to pay, picked up her can of cola, walked out the door, and disappeared around the corner of the street.

Having witnessed this, Li Yu finished off the remaining plate of crown daisy, settled the bill contentedly, and left the hotpot restaurant.

It was now about eight o’clock in the evening, the nightfall had completely enveloped the city, but the car lights and streetlamps still lit the streets as if it were daytime.

But once he turned into the alley, there were far fewer people.

Li Yu slowly walked towards the residential complex where he rented a place. On the way, he passed by the little internet cafe called "O’Shang". Inside, the noise prevailed as usual, with the clatter of keyboards and gaming patrons cursing their teammates.

Li Yu spotted another familiar face inside, the high school student named Wang Jiaqi.

However, Wang Jiaqi wasn’t there to use the internet; he was just standing behind someone watching them play PUBG, seemingly distracted, his gaze drifting off now and then to a Xiaomi Mi 10 smartphone lying on the other corner of the table.

After glancing at the smartphone, Wang Jiaqi would then look up guiltily at the cafe’s surveillance cameras.

It was evident that he was struggling with an internal battle, his face flushed and covered in sweat.

Even the chubby guy playing PUBG in front of him noticed Wang Jiaqi’s unusual complexion in the monitor’s reflection. After a round ended, he grabbed the bottle of Fanta in front of him and tossed it to Wang Jiaqi.

After catching the Fanta, Wang Jiaqi paused, then saw the chubby guy smile at him and say, "Drink up, little bro, you look like you’re overheating."

Wang Jiaqi’s lips moved, "I, I..."

"It’s alright, it’s on the house, consider it my treat. You’re my lucky charm today, little bro. Ever since you started watching, I’ve won three consecutive rounds!"

Holding the bottle of Fanta, Wang Jiaqi stood still, ultimately doing nothing, and then just left the internet cafe.

As he walked out the door, his eyes were unfocused; he didn’t even notice Li Yu standing by the entrance. Wang Jiaqi wandered off, looking completely out of sorts.

He hesitated in front of a small alley for a moment; then suddenly, a hand reached out from it and yanked him inside.

This scene did not escape the observant eyes of Li Yu following behind.

Li Yu sighed, scanned his surroundings, and his gaze finally settled on a large trash can in front of the alley.

Then he continued to walk forward.

As he passed the alley, the three inside also heard the sound of his footsteps and looked up.

Besides Wang Jiaqi, Li Yu had seen the other two young guys before, and they recognized Li Yu as well, their originally vigilant expressions visibly softening.

"Yo, long time no see, Uncle! Did you lose your job, finishing work so early?" one of them greeted Li Yu.

The other laughed and added, "If you really can’t find a job, you could join us as a lackey. It’s definitely more comfortable than working odd jobs. After all, if you’re going to be a flunky, why not for us?"

Li Yu ignored them and kept walking.

He stopped at the trash can, set his phone on the lid, and then found some trash to obscure the phone, leaving only the camera lens exposed.

Li Yu took a step back, adjusted the shooting angle, and pressed the video recording button.

He then pushed the trash can to the mouth of the alley and placed it against the wall so that the camera, hidden behind the pile of trash, could capture the inside of the alley.

The return of Li Yu caused surprise among the three young men.

One of them, who was puffing on an electronic cigarette with a skull design, asked, "What’s up? Changed your mind so quickly and decided to come work for us?"

And then, they saw Li Yu take off his tie.
