Chapter 142: Chapter 58: An Unprecedented Miracle
The simple sentence from the female priest stirred up all the believers of the Silver Moon Church present; they once again shouted Goddess Pexia’s divine name loudly.
The voices of thousands merged together, shooting up into the skies, almost seeming to overturn the entire Green Field.
Even birds several miles away in the forest were startled into flight.
A strange brilliance burst forth in Martin’s eyes; he threw away his walking stick and prostrated before the female priest, kissing her boots while loudly praising the goddess.
Adelle said softly, "To achieve rebirth, you must first experience death. Are you ready?"
Martin’s voice was firm, "Come, with the goddess’ grace, I fear nothing."
"Very well," the female priest was satisfied, paused, then added, "But you need not worry too much, as you do not need to truly die. I just need you to lie in the Holy Coffin, to remold your body with the Divine Power of the coffin."
"Holy Coffin?" Martin exclaimed, "But is it the Holy Coffin of High Priest Kaokas?!"
Kaokas was said to be the greatest priest of the Silver Moon Church, rumored to have once served Goddess Pexia. With superb medical skills, he saved countless people and all his prophecies never failed to materialize.
He even predicted his own day of death, thus fashioned a coffin for himself out of lead sheets.
On the night before his death, he lay down in it and instructed his followers to seal the coffin.
However, the next morning when the followers opened the coffin, they only found Kaokas’ clothes inside while his body had vanished without a trace.
This event caused a great sensation.
Believers from various places rushed to make pilgrimages, visiting the lead coffin left by High Priest Kaokas.
People said that High Priest Kaokas was summoned back to the Divine Country by the goddess on his deathbed, for only that could explain why only his clothes were left in the coffin.
The church thereafter named that coffin the Holy Coffin and, to satisfy the curiosity of the faithful, even built a new temple specifically to display the Holy Coffin, which saw endless streams of worshipers in the following thousand years.
None of the faithful had expected that today they would be fortunate enough to witness the Holy Coffin housed in the Great Temple of Alberto here in Green Field.
Even Ireya couldn’t help but crane her neck to see.
The female priest called over four guards to lift the heavy lead coffin from the ox cart, carrying it all the way to the city gates.
Contrary to what everyone imagined, the exterior of the Holy Coffin appeared quite plain, lacking ornate designs or inlaid gems, with only a Silver Moon emblem of the Church on its right side.
This slightly disappointed some who were seeing it for the first time, but they soon understood why.
In the era when High Priest Kaokas lived, the Silver Moon Church was only beginning to emerge in the west, far from its current power and scale.
That High Priest Kaokas had managed to gather enough materials to construct the lead coffin was already challenging enough; naturally, any decoration would have been minimized where possible.
As the coffin was set down, two more guards carefully lifted the lid, revealing the empty and clean interior beneath.
Adelle said to Martin, "You can lie down inside now."
The old soldier, without any hesitation, approached the Holy Coffin leaning on his walking stick, bowed to it first, and then respectfully climbed inside.
Seeing him settled inside with his hands placed on his chest, the female priest then instructed the guards to close the coffin, and turned to address the nearby crowd of believers.
"This ritual will consume a significant amount of faith. I might not be able to sustain it alone, so I need your help. Please join me in praying for Martin."
The believers of the Silver Moon Church had no objections. Even the guards from the Arias family began to pray one by one, hoping to contribute their strength to help this beautiful and gentle female priest.
Soon, the prayers rose and fell, drifting from the hill towards the distance, accompanied by the afterglow of the setting sun, making everything seem infinitely sacred and solemn.
Ireya was also praying, but at the same time, she was sneakily glancing at someone.
Li Yu was staring at the Holy Coffin, lost in thought. Miss Rabbit didn’t know what Li Yu was thinking at that moment, but she guessed he must be quite nervous...
Ireya took another quick look.
Well, at least on the surface, this guy didn’t look nervous at all.
Moreover, the girl later saw a look of realization dawn on Li Yu’s face.
The prayer lasted for about a quarter of an hour, and then the female priest opened her eyes and gestured for everyone to stop.
It was those same two guards who went over and moved the coffin lid again.
At that moment, everyone held their breath. On the vast hillside, there was no sound other than the rustling of the wind over the grass.
The believers first saw a hand stretching out from the coffin, gripping the edge of the board, and then Martin sat up from inside.
He looked like he had just woken up, even yawning deeply.
Then he instinctively reached for his crutch, but when his gaze moved downward, he froze.
He was seemingly frozen in place; suddenly, a look of elation spread across his face, and he stood up straight out of the Holy Coffin.
The believers saw clearly that the old soldier’s previously empty right leg had miraculously restored itself!
Martin stepped out of the Holy Coffin and tried walking a few steps. At first, his steps were awkward, but it didn’t take long for him to readapt to the sensation of having two legs, enabling him to run and jump freely.
Everyone was deeply stunned by the scene unfolding before them.
In the end, it was Miss Rabbit who first spoke, "Praise Goddess Pexia! This is the most beautiful and miraculous thing I have seen in my lifetime!"
And her words echoed what everyone was feeling.
Those who came to Green Field today were undoubtedly lucky, for they had witnessed a miracle bestowed by the goddess!
Although most believers had always worshiped Pexia, they would rarely see such a miracle in their lives.
This would be the greatest honor of their lives.
The crowd completely succumbed to madness at this point, no longer caring about how many people Li Yu had previously treated, or how lifelike his two photographs were... When people recall this contest in the future, they will remember only one thing.
That is, the female priest Adelle from the Silver Moon Church successfully made a believer, who had lost a leg, regrow flesh and bone from the limb!
This is a great miracle never seen before in the mortal world, a generous gift from Goddess Pexia!
Those fortunate enough to witness this scene will be enveloped by divine grace for the rest of their lives.
The priests of the Silver Moon Church finally breathed a sigh of relief not until then.
Although there were some twists and turns in the process of the contest, they were fortunate that the ultimate winners were still them.
