Nowadays, when Carl went to the security bureau, it was mostly to perfunctorily handle his duties, arrange the handover of his work, and chat with colleagues.
He had no specific work.
In the morning, he’d sit for a while, flip through some books, and then find an excuse to leave in the afternoon.
His colleagues, aware that he was about to resign, turned a blind eye to his leaving his post, given that the sheriff’s role was relatively relaxed.
「Divine Domain Fragment.」
Taking a High-quality Beast Pill, Carl felt the vitality surge within his body. He then began to practice his massive strength breathing technique while cultivating the Guardian Ring.
The benefits of High-quality Beast Pills for a Knight’s cultivation had reinvigorated his slowed Knight Path, allowing him to advance rapidly once more.
With a whole box of High-quality Beast Pills, he wouldn’t need to worry about his cultivation progress for the short term.
I aim to walk the path of a Wizard, but my progress in witchcraft is slow, while my Knight Path, on the other hand, is becoming smoother.
It makes no sense!
But the endpoint of a Knight is merely a Legendary Knight, whereas becoming an Official Wizard is just the starting point for a Wizard.
Heh...
Carl chuckled. Here I am, just a Knight, yet I already look down on Legendary Knights. I’m really not afraid someone will knock my teeth out for such arrogance.
Panel!
Name: Carl
Constitution: 2.36
Spiritual Power: 2.01
Source Material: 0
Occupation: Knight, Intermediate Wizard Apprentice
Progress is slow!
Shaking his head, Carl expressionlessly waved away the data panel and walked towards the desk beside him.
Next was study time.
A Wizard... it’s all about accumulation!
Making Demonized Items can be difficult, or it can be easy. Without the right Magic Materials, trying to work wonders with ordinary items is undoubtedly challenging. Only those with a deep understanding of various disciplines and strong practical skills can manage it. Such individuals are rare. This is why Demonized Items are very scarce, mostly relics from long ago, and ordinary Wizard Apprentices rarely have access to them.
However, if one possesses Magic Materials with certain unique properties, crafting Demonized Items becomes relatively easy. In fact, the organs of some magical creatures are Demonized Items in themselves—for example, the feathers of a Fire Phoenix can be used to cast fire witchcraft, and the hide of an invisible crocodile can be sewn into an invisibility cloak...
Naturally occurring Demonized Items are extremely rare, mostly found on Legendary Creatures—powerful beings that even Official Wizards dare not provoke. It’s not something I can even think about at my current stage.
However, ordinary Magic Materials are quite common in Freedom Port. They should be enough for me to try my hand at crafting some.
Carl picked up the Illusory Fish Trident beside him, deep in thought.
Though he didn’t think much of the weapon’s power, its ability to change size at will intrigued him.
As it happened, after his battle with Hal from the Black City squad, his broad sword would need to be reforged anyway.
If I could incorporate the Illusory Fish Trident’s size-altering ability into it...
For Artifact Refining, tools like a hammer, tongs, a forge, and an anvil are indispensable.
Money!
Whether it’s practicing weapon forging or learning about Demonized Items, everything requires money.
Packing up his things, Carl left the Divine Domain Fragment and headed towards the market.
It was nearing evening. The streets were sparsely populated.
Carl was dressed in a black robe with a hood that concealed his features. The treasured sword he had taken from Hal hung from his waist.
A genuine treasure sword. After the battle, his broad sword was badly damaged, but this sword, with just a little polishing, still shone like new.
「...」
Three quail-egg-sized pearls, a crystal pendant, and a string of plump, round pearls forming a necklace.
Gerry couldn’t bear to part with them, examining them repeatedly.
"Fine pieces!" he murmured to himself. "All of them are rare treasures. I believe even the important figures in the Royal City would appreciate them."
"As expected of you, sir," he continued, addressing Carl. "Every item you bring is a treasure."
"Seventy Gold Coins," Carl said slowly. He was sitting in a soft chair, his body hidden in the shadows. "Just seventy Gold Coins, and they’re yours."
"Seventy?" Gerry was startled, then shook his head. "Not expensive. Indeed, not expensive."
He continued with a troubled expression, "Your price isn’t high, sir, and I really like them, but the shop currently doesn’t have that many Gold Coins."
"Oh!" Carl sat upright. "It seems my timing was off."
"Please wait a moment, sir!" Seeing Carl preparing to leave, Gerry’s expression changed dramatically. He hastily reached out a hand as if to stop him. "I’ll have someone fetch the money from nearby. They’ll be back soon. Rest assured, it won’t delay your business."
Turning around, he signaled to a helper in the store, "Hurry! Tell the young master that an esteemed guest is here, with goods for consignment valued at seventy Gold Coins."
"Yes, sir." The helper nodded and quickly ran out the door.
"My apologies." Gerry turned back, rubbing his hands. "I must trouble you to wait a little longer, sir."
Gerry was filled with trepidation and unease.
Is he worried the deal might not go through?
Under his hood, Carl slightly raised his head, his scrutinizing gaze fixed on Gerry as he said slowly, "I’m in a hurry."
"Yes, sir." Sweat beaded on Gerry’s forehead. "We have fifty Gold Coins in the shop right now. I’ll get them for you first. Please accept this amount for now."
Fifty Gold Coins, arranged in five stacks of ten, lay in a neat row, their golden glow irresistibly captivating.
Carl touched the Gold Coins, and for a moment, his urgency lessened.
Time passed.
"Still not here?"
Carl, who had been feigning sleep with his eyes closed, opened them, his face showing displeasure.
"They’re here, they’re here!" Gerry hurriedly stood up and went to the shop entrance to meet the helper, taking the Gold Coins from his hands.
"Sir, your payment."
"Mm."
Carl nodded. After confirming the amount was correct, he opened his money pouch and swept the Gold Coins into it. Then, carrying the heavy pouch, he walked out of the shop.
Only when Carl’s figure had disappeared from sight did Gerry reach up and wipe the sweat from his forehead.
I’ve handled deals like this before. Why do I get so nervous when facing him?
