Chapter 98: She Was More Mature Than Her Childish Second Uncle

"CALIX XU! STOP!"

"Hahaha! Hell no!"

Calix sprinted down the hallway, outrunning Evelyn in an attempt not to get caught by his enraged youngest sibling. Their yelling blared in the area, breaking the tranquility inside the ancestral home.

Leslie exhaled a sigh. She didn’t expect to see another episode of CEO Xu being very childish. Hopefully, he would get what he deserved from Evelyn’s revenge.

"En... I better follow him."

Leslie threw a glance at Butler Gu and the male staff, seeing how unfazed they looked watching their masters acting like that. It seemed like Calix and Evelyn’s physical fights were normal occurrences here.

Without wasting time, Leslie hovered in the air, rushing to where Calix was. She caught up to him right before he ran into one of the drawing rooms. Evelyn was just a few meters behind him.

In the next second, Leslie saw a little head popping out of the door, horrifying her.

"Ah! C-Calix! Look out!"

He might collide with Amelia!

Calix’s senses heightened once he saw Amelia peeking out. Instead of stopping, he lunged his abdomen forward, taking the little turnip head before carrying her along.

"Aaa! Second Uncle! Daddy! Help!"

The shocked little Amelia flailed her short limbs, wanting to be rescued. Calix laughed along, running passed Vernon, Lucille and Old Madam Xu who had leisure time inside the room.

"Hey! Where are you taking her?" shouted Vernon at Calix, surprised to see his younger brother charging toward the open sliding doors with his little daughter.

"Running from a red-faced monkey!" yelled Calix back. His maniacal laughter followed soon.

"SECOND BROTHER! STOP!"

Swiftly kicking off his home slippers, Calix jumped barefoot to the yard before continuing his mad dash. A furious Evelyn did the same. Ignoring everyone, she dived out of the balcony, hell-bent on settling scores with her brother.

"..."

Floating on the balcony, Leslie watched the two figures, including a little one vanish from her eyesight.

Calix ran to the left, the closest turn to the spacious backyard. His mad laughter and Evelyn’s angry shouts faded into the air.

"Tsk, tsk, how old are your siblings now, Vernon?" Old Madam Xu shook her head in helplessness, "Are they still in kindergarten?"

Vernon sighed out loud while Lucille chuckled in amusement. None of them had the answer to that.

Actually, Leslie also wanted to know. CEO Xu was already thirty-two this year but... what if his real age was six?

Not wanting to move from the drawing room, Leslie sat on one of the couches. She intended to simply wait for Calix to reappear here.

Old Madam Xu, Vernon and Lucille paid no attention to Calix and Evelyn’s childish fight. They talked randomly about Amelia’s days in kindergarten, Vernon’s security company and the family of three’s vacation plan soon in the future.

"Oh? You chose Sicily? Doesn’t Calix have a business trip to Rome soon after this break? Did you two brothers collude to go to Italy this year or what?"

Old Madam Xu’s question spilled laughter from the spouses. Instead of Vernon, Lucille replied to her grandmother-in-law.

"Mia wants to go to an island. So, we decided on Sicily," Lucille’s countenance beamed with delight, thinking of her precious child, "The first time we brought her there, she’s only one."

"Oh~ That’s good, that’s good," Old Madam Xu nodded, understanding what Lucille meant, "She’ll remember this trip better than the previous one."

Vernon laughed faintly, adding some more, "We’ll go there this summer for two weeks."

Leslie smilingly listened to the family’s conversation. She loved seeing the glow in Lucille’s eyes when she talked about her darling daughter Amelia. It reminded Leslie of her affection for her own child.

Calliope loved playing with water, perhaps inheriting Leslie’s love for swimming. Even though she couldn’t bring her daughter to fancy resorts, she liked taking Calliope to the public pool.

’Perhaps, I can bring Poppy to better places in this life.’

Even though Leslie didn’t know when she would be reunited with Calliope, she had started picturing their new life together.

No more tightening their belts to ensure their survival. Yes to give a better life for their family of two.

Well, didn’t all transmigrators who had poor lives previously end up wealthy once they entered the new worlds?

Of course! She had to be like them!

"Mommy~ Daddy~"

Amelia’s milky voice came in the direction of the balcony.

Calix and Evelyn’s banter ended with the former’s victory. Slightly breathless, he returned to the drawing room through the balcony, piggy-backing Amelia.

"Mia!" Vernon stood up, hurrying to get his daughter, "Did your second uncle bully you? Where’s your little aunt?"

Calix handed Amelia to Vernon. His bare feet were dirty. He needed to wash them first before stepping back inside the house.

"Little Aunt kicked the punching bag," reported Amelia fluently. She continued talking, "Second Uncle bullied Little Aunt, Dad. Scold Second Uncle."

Calix clicked his tongue, "Why did you report me after asking for ice cream?"

To stop Amelia from calling for help, Calix quickly bribed her. He promised to bring the little turnip head to her favorite ice cream shop later.

Calix quickly brought Amelia back when Evelyn started venting out to the poor sandbag hanging in the backyard.

Feeling safe in her father’s arms, Amelia pouted before glaring at Calix, "Second Uncle is childish ah! Mia is more mature than Second Uncle."

"...where did you learn that term?"

"Blergh!"

Amelia stuck out her tongue before she quickly hid her little face in Vernon’s chest. Annoyed with the little turnip head, Calix was so tempted to pull one of her pigtails, tied by red-white polka dot ribbons.

"Calix, where’s your sister?" Old Madam Xu approached the balcony, followed by Lucille, "Geez. You’re already old yet still name-calling her?"

"Hehe, Eve’s in the backyard," Calix chuckled, pleased to see his grandmother’s annoyed look, "Don’t worry about her ah. Grandma, shouldn’t we have lunch now? Isn’t it ready yet?"

Old Madam Xu scowled. She pointed to the yard, "Go and get your sister back here. If not, no lunch for you."

"Ha?"

Amelia laughed out loud while Vernon and Lucille only watched the grandmother and grandson’s bickering in amusement.

Leslie covered her mouth, laughter almost bubbling up from there. She shared the same feelings as Vernon and Lucille now.

Hehe, CEO Xu got scolded by his grandmother.

Old Madam Xu was adamant. Starring daggers at her grandson, she repeated her words, "No lunch unless you bring Eve back. Go!"

Calix winced, having no choice but to bide to his grandmother’s order.

Urgh... Even though he was over three decades old, his grandmother’s words still had so much power on him.

"Yeah, yeah. I’ll go and get her back."

Still barefoot, Calix turned around, intending to drag Evelyn back to the house before he got hungrier.

"No more fighting!" shouted Old Madam Xu.

"...yeah."

Grumbling under his breath, Calix traced back his steps to the backyard. Leslie quickly ran to him. She slowed down once she reached his side.

"What?" Calix glanced at the cheerful Leslie, "Tsk tsk, laughing at your own husband."

"Hehe, who told you to make fun of your sister?" Leslie quickly replied, "I didn’t expect to see your sister try to fly-kick you tho. Does it happen often?"

"Haha! It’s either she who starts it or me," boasted Calix proudly.

Leslie chuckled once more. Seeing how lively and chaotic Calix and his siblings made her think of their parents.

Andrian and Harper should arrive soon, right?
