Chapter 96: Loved Making Dramas Out of Nothing
"Have a nice break, Aunt Wendy, Uncle Raymond," Calix shouted from the car, standing there while holding the door, "Tell Edward not to trash my house."
Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond burst into laughter at Calix’s last remark. Waving at their employer, the spouses’ countenances beaming with joy.
Calix left the manor under Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond’s care. Even though the Qingming holidays went on for up to five days including the weekend, the spouses didn’t want to go anywhere.
Uncle Raymond and Aunt Wendy hadn’t visited their hometown in ages. That place gave bad memories to both of them.
Edward would come to Graceville Manor with his loveable pet dog later this evening. He often spent his holiday breaks at the annex where Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond lived.
"We’ll look after Mrs. Charlene and the house. Please don’t worry, Mr. Calix. We’ll contact you if any emergency arises."
Aunt Wendy tried to reassure Calix, thinking that he would be concerned about leaving his wife at home for a few days.
The caretakers had been teaching Aunt Wendy a few other things to help in taking care of Leslie, including massaging her limbs and body to slow down muscle atrophy.
Calix’s smile had a hint of guilt. He heard Leslie’s chuckle from the other side of the car, seemingly she found Aunt Wendy’s statement funny.
’Aunt Wendy ah, if only you know I’m bringing my wife along with me. Only her body is left behind.’
Soon, Calix’s car sped out of the mansion area. Humming to a tune, he couldn’t wait to get to the Xu family’s ancestral home. He had a feeling that he would have an enjoyable time annoying everyone there.
"Calix, your relatives will come starting tomorrow, won’t they? Will everyone stay at the ancestral home?"
The other branches of the Xu family would come to gather at the ancestral home. Leslie wondered how big the crowd was once everyone got there.
"Some will stay, some don’t if they live in this city," Calix drove the car in leisure. The traffic was quite smooth despite being the beginning of the holiday break, "Hurm... I like to gather with my family but, the relatives can be quite a headache."
Chuckles spilled out from Leslie’s lips. Throwing her gaze out of the windows, she watched the passing scenery.
"Holidays with relatives are always dreadful," Leslie sighed, amusement tinged in her voice, "Especially when they love making dramas out of nothing."
"Oho~ I think everyone has at least one relative who enjoys that. Annoying like a bug."
Calix sighed, wincing as he recalled who would be coming. He could stand some of them. As for the rest, Calix had to practice his patience.
If he followed his heart, he would kick the pretentious and troublesome relatives out of the ancestral home.
’Urgh... That annoying Gerard will be there too.’
Calix tapped one finger on the steering wheel, thinking of the problematic Gerard. He suspected that the latter started bearing resentment toward him when they were still in diapers.
Leslie glanced at Calix, seeing his side profile. The frown on his handsome face prompted her to laugh.
"I don’t think you’re someone who’ll endure people making dramas about you, CEO Xu."
Based on Calix’s personality, the people with wagging tongues would suffer in retaliation instead.
"Hah! Do you think they can bully me? I swear they’ll gossip about our marriage when they gather this time around."
Calix’s marriage to the eldest granddaughter of the Li family caused a stir among the Xu family’s relatives. They were surprised to know he chose someone who was neglected by Old Madam Li.
"Why did he get married to such a woman?"
"I think I haven’t seen this so-called First Young Miss Li at any banquets."
"Why didn’t he pick Second Young Miss Li? I think her name is Gladys. She’s as pretty as a goddess!"
The annoying relatives had the same inquiries as the gossipmongers in high society. Everyone questioned Calix’s choice as if he picked a lawbreaker to be his bride.
"Times like this make me grateful for being a soul," Leslie grinned widely, expressing her pure delight, "If not, I need to see them judging me from head to toe ah."
Calix frowned, "Won’t you still get upset? They can’t physically judge you but, their words can still hurt you, you know?"
Leslie blinked. She slowly nodded, caught in a daze.
"Well, I think so."
Leslie’s response was akin to a whisper, reaching him. Calix let out a sigh, picturing how to deal with the irritating relatives if they went out of the line.
To be frank, the troubling ones only had so little courage. They mostly dared to speak outrageously when he and his siblings were not around.
The former military man Vernon could silence them with just a hum.
The top actress Evelyn possessed a sharp tongue, exclusively for annoying people. She was just like Calix.
"You don’t have to stay around them. Take your sweet time exploring the home," Calix glanced at Leslie as he slowed down the car’s speed, "I’ll bring some food to my room if you’re hungry."
Leslie burst into giggles.
"Hehe, that sounds so reassuring."
Since CEO Xu said that, Leslie would stop at nothing. She loved being in the vast garden of the Xu family’s ancestral home. It had a different charm than the one at Graceville Manor but, still brought calm to the heart.
Not long after, the car reached the ancestral home. Calix simply parked the car on the front porch, telling one of the staff to bring it to the garage.
"Let’s go in," Calix grinned at Leslie, "Enjoy today ah. The bugs won’t come until tomorrow."
"Hahaha! That sounds so reassuring."
Leslie quickly followed Calix once they got out of the car. Butler Gu and one of the staff were waiting by the main door, welcoming the return of their second young master.
"Welcome back, Second Young Master."
"It’s good to have you here, Second Young Master Calix."
After returning the greeting, Calix asked, "Where’s everyone?"
"They’re in..."
Whoosh!
Out of nowhere, Leslie saw a blurring figure of someone gliding through the air, coming in their direction. The air seemed to freeze for a second before Calix suddenly sidestepped, dodging the unexpected attack.
"C-Calix! Are you okay?"
Did he almost get attacked in his own home?
Seeing the panic on Leslie’s face, Calix quickly patted her back. His simple gesture was not noticed by anyone who was caught in the same shock as Leslie.
The assailant landed not far from the group, assuming the stance belonging to someone skilled in martial arts.
"Hah! Why did you dodge?"
Calix made a face, "And let you kick my head? Not a chance, Eve."
Evelyn clicked her tongue. Rising to her feet, she straightened her body. Her luscious locks slightly obscured her face. She swiftly pushed them to the back.
"..."
Leslie was stunned by the unfolding of the event. Her gaze fell on the youngest among the Xu siblings, the top actress Evelyn Xu.
She was the renowned Ice Goddess Xu! Capturing the hearts of many with her dazzling beauty, stellar acting skills and distant yet respectful behavior.
It was just...
Haha... did her fans know she tried to fly-kick her own brother?
