Chapter 95: After the Storm Raiding the Li Family Home

Leslie and Calix didn’t know that a huge storm raided the Liu family’s ancestral home after they left.

Right after Bianca checked the rest of the evidence compiled by Calix, she angrily marched to the maids’ quarters and dragged the sick Sarah out of her room. She cursed out loud, not caring about everyone watching the ugly scene.

Not a single soul was spared from the shock of seeing their meek first madam lashing out at Sarah. Even Old Madam Li was stunned silly by the sudden change in her eldest daughter-in-law.

"I’ve never seen Mom getting so angry like that. Dad wanted to stop her but, he got smacked on the shoulders. Hehe, now everyone knows what Sarah has done to Big Sister."

Calix got the update during breakfast the next morning. By putting the call on the loudspeaker mode, he and Leslie listened to Irene narrating the event.

Staring at the phone, Calix’s lips curled into a smirk. He glanced at Leslie, wriggling his brows. Satisfaction was written on his countenance.

Sitting next to Calix, Leslie chuckled. She took another bite of the chicken and cabbage steamed bun.

"What happened next? Did that woman get beaten up by Mother?" Calix paused, thinking of another matter, "How about your grandmother, Irene? Did she try to meddle again? To stop your parents?"

Old Madam Li was the type who excessively loved saving her face. She wouldn’t let this incident turn into a humiliating scandal.

How could Old Madam Li hold her head high in front of her friends if they knew that she pressured Rowan and Bianca from investigating her eldest granddaughter’s staircase accident?

The culprit was detected and caught only after her new grandson-in-law stepped in, taking the matter into his own hands.

"Huh! Mom slapped Sarah many times. Hahaha! I thought I could only see such a scene in drama ah! It’s so good!"

Calix and Leslie helplessly listened to Irene’s hearty giggles. The teen girl was too joyful in celebrating Sarah’s misfortune. She answered her brother-in-law’s second question after taking her sweet time laughing.

"Grandma called Second Uncle to come home. They tried stopping Mom and Dad from calling the police. Mom didn’t care. Dad only listened to Mom last night. The police arrived at midnight. They took Sarah away."

According to Irene, Bianca threatened to spread rumors of Old Madam Li forcing her and Rowan to bury the staircase incident under the rug.

Even though Bianca didn’t have anything to support her claim, flaring the fire of rumors was enough to shut Old Madam Li up.

The old woman wouldn’t stand being gossiped as the neglectful grandmother despite most people already knowing she despised her eldest son and his entire family. Outsiders also knew that the old lady actually wished her beloved Gladys to be chosen as Calix Xu’s bride.

"Seems like someone will have a hard time in jail, Irene. Well, even though your parents don’t have much influence in your family, they’re still part of the Lis. The evidence is complete. That woman will serve some jail time."

Calix put down the spoon of his congee, looking satisfied by Bianca’s action. This was the news he wanted to hear after leaving the Li family’s ancestral home last night.

"Good riddance. Stealing is bad but, still forgivable if she apologizes. But, leaving my sister to die? No! Can we call this attempted murder?"

Irene wondered which charges her parents would press on Sarah. She hoped that the wicked woman would get the punishments she deserved.

"Maybe? I’m not sure tho," Calix shrugged, admitting his lack of knowledge in this field, "Ask the lawyers if you want to know. Haha, your family’s Qingming holiday is so eventful this year."

"Hurm... that can’t be denied."

Calix and Irene talked some more before the latter ended the call, citing she wanted to go looking for her parents. He simply said goodbye to the high school girl.

"Now that Sarah woman is in the police’s hands, are you contented now?" asked Calix, paying attention to Leslie, "Do you want to leave her to the authorities or do you want me to call the shots? You know how influential your husband is, right?"

Leslie returned Calix’s gaze to her. Chuckling, she threw questions at him instead of answering his.

"Why, CEO Xu? Can you arrange for people to torture her in prison later? How about making sure she becomes someone’s slave dog?"

Leslie was not being serious. She was intrigued to speak the lines she saw in the romance stories she had read before.

The easygoing CEO Xu sounded like the domineering male lead who would burn Earth for the sake of avenging his beloved!

Calix clicked his tongue. Shaking his head and wearing a look of disappointment, he said, "Mrs. Xu, we need to be law-abiding citizens. How could you request something like that?"

Calix’s words irked Leslie but she continued smiling while firing back, "CEO Xu, have you forgotten the kidnapping we did two nights ago?"

"..."

Lowering his head, Calix continued eating his congee. Leslie stuck out her tongue before grabbing another steamed bun.

Before noon, they would head to Phoenix Heights. Evelyn, Vernon and his family had gathered at the Xu family’s ancestral home. Only Calix and their parents hadn’t made their appearance.

Andrian and Harper were supposed to land in the country at five in the late afternoon. They would have a family dinner. The relatives started coming tomorrow.

Andrian and Harper planned to stay for a week before resuming their traveling. They decided to fly to Thailand first before heading to Malaysia and Singapore.

"Hurm... But, I wonder ah," Calix abruptly lifted his head, one hand rubbing his chin, "How that woman looks after your mother slapped her. Urgh, her face will sting so much."

"Why? Are you sympathizing with her now?" asked Leslie curiously.

"No, absolutely not. Just wondering. Ha!" Calix suddenly grinned widely. Looking at Leslie, he came up with another random question, "Leslie, let’s say you get hurt and have a bruise. Wanna know what I’ll do?"

Leslie raised her brows. She answered cheekily, "Burn down the world to find whoever did that to me? You know, that’s what most romance story’s male leads do."

"No, no," Calix clicked his tongue while wagging one index finger. He moved the finger, touching Leslie’s arm, "I’ll poke your bruise."

"..."

Under Leslie’s deadpanned gaze, Calix guffawed at his own tasteless joke[1]. The merry sound bounced off the walls of the kitchen.

Leslie’s head throbbed because of another one of CEO Xu’s silly jokes. Staring impassively at him, she called his name, "Calix."

"What, what?" Calix was still laughing. He boldly asked, "Have a counter-attack?"

Curling her lips, Leslie nodded. "Don’t you wanna know how that woman looks after being slapped hard by my mother? It’s easy ah."

Calix flinched. He was aware where this conversation would lead to, "Leslie..."

"Do it yourself. Don’t you have the experience already? CEO Xu, don’t forget that you slapped yourself to avoid fainting. But, you failed, right?"

"..."

Calix had a hunch that the embarrassing moment would continue to live on through Leslie.
