Chapter 88: Utilizing Her Ghostly Abilities
Chapter 88: Utilizing Her Ghostly Abilities
"Are you that happy to get it back?"
Calix’s tone had a hint of helplessness, directed to Leslie who kept looking at the opal jade pendant on her right palm. His remarks flowed chuckles out of her lips.
Closing her eyes, Leslie clasped the pendant with both of her palms. She brought it to her heart. Her softened voice replied to his inquiry.
"I didn’t expect that... I’d get this pendant back this quick. Thank you so much, Calix."
Calix’s lips melted into a smile, "You’ve been thanking me for so many times already."
"Hehe, did I?"
After Calix showed the jade pendant to Leslie earlier, bewilderment struck her. Tears quickly pooled in her eyes, threatening to roll down her cheeks.
Realizing that Leslie’s emotions suddenly turned chaotic, Calix persuaded her to go inside the lounge. The teary-eyed young lady agreed while tightly holding the pendant.
CEO Xu patiently accompanied Leslie on the couch as she slowly regained her composure. She didn’t let the pendant out of her grasp as if she was afraid it would go missing again.
Unaware by Calix, Leslie was chanting the same words in her mind.
’I’ve found the pendant back. Your pendant... I’ll keep it safe from now on. Please, please let go of your suffering. I pray that you’ll be happy in your next life.’
Leslie hoped to hand the pendant to Charlene but, it was impossible. She vowed to treasure the latter’s maternal grandmother’s keepsake on her behalf.
"So..." Leslie opened her reddened eyes, tilting her head to look at Calix, "This means we can proceed to our next step, en?"
Calix nodded. He was inwardly relieved to see Leslie appeared better than before although only slightly.
"Let’s do it tomorrow," Calix began explaining what Edward had just informed him, "That woman tendered her resignation. It’s a month’s notice but, we can’t be so sure. She might escape when no one’s looking."
Leslie’s expression tensed. She knew that Calix placed someone to keep an eye on Sarah’s movement.
His guess wasn’t far-fetched. A treacherous woman like Sarah would do it to save herself.
So...
How could she deal with that woman?
Oh!
"Tomorrow’s is April 1st, right?" Leslie’s lips swiftly curled into a huge smile. A mischievous glint shone in her eyes, "Can I scare her?"
A helpless chuckle escaped Calix’s mouth. Wriggling his brows, he asked, "What? You want to use your ghostly abilities?"
"Hehe, yeah."
Calix shrugged, "Up to you. How about we do it like this?"
Leslie opened her ears wide. She gave her full focus on Calix’s next suggestions. More light beamed in her eyes, expressing her appreciation.
"That’s good! Let’s do that!"
Leslie enthusiastically nodded her eyes a few times, prompting Calix to laugh out loud.
"Hahaha! I’ll arrange it now."
Leaving the delighted Leslie in the lounge, Calix returned to his work desk. Without wasting time, he called Edward to get inside his office.
"Yes, Boss Xu?"
Grinning, mischief flickered in Calix’s eyes. Edward immediately recognized that kind of face. He was already accustomed to how his boss would look whenever he wanted to create chaos.
"April’s Fool project tonight," Calix snickered, "Make sure our preparations are complete."

Groovy Galaxy, 10:45 PM.
A distressed Sarah sought peace inside the nightclub after leaving her quarters.
The ambitious woman wished to go to a more luxurious club but, most of them needed a membership. She begrudgingly settled for a mediocre one.
After dancing wildly for a few rounds, Sarah sat at the bar. She had been trying to get men’s attention but, none stayed on her long enough. This occurrence annoyed her.
"Urgh... should I run away now?" Sarah downed another shot of whiskey. Her cheeks flushed red, "But... what if they catch me?"
Sarah noticed how weirdly Irene and Calix were acting last Monday. It seemed like the youngest miss of the Li family deliberately brought up the pendant in front of her brother-in-law.
And...
The way Young Master Xu looked at her made Sarah shudder in fright. What happened later with her essence bottle further heightened her panic.
"No, no, calm down... Sarah," Sarah closed her eyes, began her drunken slurring, "Calm down... I need to plan my escape... well..."
The Li family’s resources were good. Sarah knew she would be caught easily if she caused suspicions by running away abruptly.
Shaking her head, Sarah pushed those thoughts away. She came here to relieve her stress and find a rich guy to hook up with, not to continuously lament her misfortune.
"Hello, pretty. May I sit here?"
A husky voice echoed above Sarah’s head. Looking up to her right side, a charming man was smiling flirtily at her. Her heart skipped a beat at that very moment.
"H-hello," Sarah quickly adjusted her hair. Her mind began imagining a pleasurable hot night with the handsome man, "Please sit. There’s no one here."
"I’m so fortunate then," replied the man as he sat on the stool next to Sarah, "I’ve been looking at you, Pretty Miss. May I buy you some drinks?"
"Hehe, you may," Sarah’s cheeks blushed intensely, "Are you alone here?"
"My friends have left me alone," said the man, chuckling, "I’m the only one without a partner tonight."
The drowsy Sarah grinned bashfully. She softened her voice as much as she could, "I’m alone right now too. I wanted to invite my friends here but, they’re too busy."
"Oh, what a bummer. Then, should we enjoy tonight by ourselves?"
Sarah caught the hidden meaning behind the charming man’s words. She nodded, heat started spreading to her entire body.
The infatuated Sarah naively thought that the handsome man sought her for a one-night romance. Unaware of the sinister plot lurking nearby, she happily flirted with him.
"Here, don’t you like this? You can drink it again?"
"How about this drink? I prefer this one."
"Pretty Miss, you’re quite heavyweight. Come, try this one now."
The man got Sarah drunk enough, letting her fall unconscious. When it happened, the defenseless woman was discreetly taken away from the club.
Sarah was so deep in her sleep. She snored out loud, leisurely sleeping on a comfortable bed inside a room somewhere far away.
Until...
Splash!
"H-huh?"
A pail of cold water was thrown at Sarah, drenching her and the bed wet. Abruptly awakened by the sudden freezing sensation, she opened her eyes wide.
"W-where am I?"
The cold chattered Sarah’s teeth. Her drunkenness instantly vanished. She found herself inside a brightly lit room, a place that looked nothing out of the ordinary.
Except for...
"Who... splashed water at me?"
Did that person hide?
Wait!
Where did that man go?
Realizing the oddity, Sarah forced herself to sit up. She wiped her wet face. When she tried to move her legs, she noticed how heavy they became.
"H-huh? Who did this?"
Sarah stared at her ankles in horror. They were bound by iron chains. The ends of both chains were tied to the legs of the single bed.
Thud.
The echo of something falling on the floor attracted Sarah’s attention. It came from the dressing table opposite her.
Sarah’s eyes fell on the red lipstick rolling there until...
It floated in the air!
"W-what? What... what’s happening?"
Under Sarah’s terrified gaze, the lipstick began spelling words on the vanity mirror.
Hello, Sarah.
Have you forgotten me?
The one you pushed down the stairs before.
I miss you.
"Argh... ARGHHHH!"
Sarah widened her eyes. An ear-piercing scream tore the silence inside the room.
She wouldn’t ever know that the person holding the lipstick was laughing out of glee at her cowardly action.
