Chapter 79: She Better Not Became Friends With the Shallow People
After lunch, a stuffed Leslie went wandering in the company while CEO Xu returned to his office. She had fun visiting the other interesting places like the game room, gym and library.
When Leslie resumed spending time in Calix’s private lounge, she no longer felt as sad as before. She kept the file given by Edward on the bookshelf, wishing that he would come with new sets of information soon.
"It’s okay. I won’t give up," Leslie smiled faintly. She ran her gaze on the line of crochet toys made by Calix, "Mimo and I will meet Poppy again."
Once they were reunited, Leslie would do anything to always keep them all together. She didn’t want to be separated from her daughter ever again.
Slightly before four in the afternoon, Calix and Leslie left Xu International. Their destination was Blossom Jade High, the private high school Irene attended.
"Did you text her again?" asked Leslie while sitting in the front passenger seat, "She said she doesn’t have extracurricular activities today, didn’t she?"
Calix exchanged a few messages with Irene yesterday, confirming their meeting after her school hours ended.
Aside from Rowan and Bianca, it seemed like Old Madam Li and Geoffrey’s family also had heard about this. Surely, they would wonder why Calix wanted to have a good relationship with his in-laws.
"I just texted your sister. I told her that I’ll be on my way there," Calix buckled the seatbelt. He tapped a few buttons on the dashboard screen, "She hasn’t replied. Perhaps busy with class."
"Oh... that can be true."
The students at Blossom Jade High were allowed to bring smartphones to school but, they couldn’t use the gadgets during classes.
The rule was known by all. Everyone who broke it would get their phones confiscated.
Even though the students all came from wealthy families, only the foolish ones dared to act arrogant toward the teachers and staff.
The school was under the Shengguang family, an old money family in Silvercrest City. The affluent scholar family was strict with education and wouldn’t allow disrespect to the teachers.
Both students and parents didn’t dare to be in the Shengguang family’s bad book.
Throughout the ride there, Leslie and Calix enjoyed listening to the spring pop songs played on the radio. Occasionally, they talked about the topics shared by the deejay.
In the outsiders’ eyes, they might think how close the relationship between the recently married husband and wife was. They wouldn’t ever expect the spouses to only know each other in a week.
"Oh, we’re here," exclaimed Calix. He slowed down the car speed, looking at the empty parking spaces by the roadside.
"We arrived earlier than expected," Leslie glanced at the dashboard clock. The time had just turned to four-forty in the late afternoon.
"Thanks to the smooth traffic and my car’s speed," Calix declared smugly. He parked near the main gate of the high school.
Leslie clicked her tongue, pretending to despise another one of CEO Xu’s prideful boasts. Her response enticed laughter from him.
Calix messaged Irene, telling her that he was already here. Then, he glanced at Leslie. She was looking out the windows, seemingly entranced by the beautiful surroundings.
The peach blossom trees were in full bloom, forming a canopy of pink and white hues overhead. The dappled sunlight filtered through the swaying blossoms, casting an ethereal glow on the ground.
The falling petals added colors to the black tarmac of the roads. When the breeze came, they swirled, dancing in the air.
The area of Blossom Jade High was far from the common neighborhood thus, allowing the place to retain its tranquility. The guards who protected the school all had a wide range of combat skills.
Sigh... This place looked just like the dreamy high school she saw in teenage dramas.
"Ah! School’s over," Leslie blurted out, noticing the guards open the tall black iron gate. More vehicles were parked by the roadside, "Irene will be out soon."
"She replied to me," Calix read the message displayed on the phone. Laughter escaped his lips, "Haha, she reminds me about her ice cream."
Leslie chuckled, thinking of how easily Irene be charmed by her approachable brother-in-law. She dared to ask for an ice cream from CEO Xu.
Soon, students in blue and white uniforms came out of the main gate. Leslie and Calix kept their eyes in that direction, trying to find the petite Irene among the crowd.
"Oh! There she is," Leslie spotted Irene walking with her friends.
A smiling Calix wound down the car window, revealing his handsome face to the students outside.
"Irene, here!"
Irene grinned, waving at her brother-in-law. She and her friends approached the car.
"CEO Xu, are you trying to catch the female students’ hearts? Remember your age ah."
Leslie’s words almost made Calix choke. He wanted to reply to her but, Irene and her friends were already near. They stood right outside the car.
"Hello, Brother-in-law," Irene smiled, shifting her gaze from Calix to look at her friends, "They wanna see you so I brought them along."
The two female students blushed as they faced Calix. They quietly mumbled hi.
Calix smiled in helplessness. He stepped out of the car, taking Irene’s backpack from the teenager.
"Hello, thank you for being friends with Irene," Calix displayed his polite demeanor even though the students were significantly younger than him, "Are your parents already here?"
"My mom’s here."
"My driver is over there."
Irene happily introduced her friends to Calix.
More eyes who recognized him looked in their direction. Some paused from walking while the others whispered among themselves.
"Brother-in-law, this is Lydia Zhao and Rubi Yin. We’re classmates."
Lydia and Rubi slightly nodded at Calix. Their countenances were beaming.
"Hello, CEO Xu."
"Hehe, we didn’t expect you’re Irene’s brother-in-law, CEO Xu."
Leslie watched the scene in amusement. She could see admiration glimmering in Lydia and Rubi’s eyes. The same went to the students who noticed who Calix was.
This was understandable. As the supporting character who was the closest to the male lead, Calix had the same amount of spotlight on him.
"I just got married to Irene’s sister," Calix grinned, "I’m going to my in-law’s house now. Student Zhao, Student Yin, see you later."
"See you again, CEO Xu."
"Thank you for meeting us even for a bit."
Lydia and Rubi waved at Irene and Calix before they slowly left. The young man put the backpack in the backseat while telling his younger sister-in-law to get inside the car.
At the same time, Leslie had moved to the back. She smilingly watched Irene and Calix interact.
"Brother-in-law, you don’t know how many people asked about you and my sister last week," Irene started telling her story while putting on the seatbelt, "Suddenly, so many wanna be my friends."
Calix burst out laughing. While driving away from the school, he asked, "So, do you become friends with them?"
"No," Irene shook her head, "They ignored me. I better not be friends with shallow people like them."
"Hahaha!"
Calix was amazed by the similarity between Irene and her elder sister Leslie. Their remarks were often funny.
Wait, were they really hilarious or simply because he was too easy to be entertained?
Doubting his judgment, Calix wondered about that matter until they reached an ice cream shop.
