Chapter 74: The Familiar Taste of Strawberry Milk

Once again, CEO Xu transformed into Chef Xu. The huge kitchen with numerous modern appliances became his battlefield.

"Szechuan beef, crispy honey sesame chicken, chili oil cucumber salad and omelet," Calix repeated Leslie’s requests. He put on the navy blue apron, "So, I’ll leave the strawberry milk to you."

"Hahaha, okay~"

Once he was done tying the apron to the back of his waist, Calix took the necessary ingredients out of the fridge, including the ones he needed to thaw. Leslie watched him defrost the beef and chicken inside the microwave.

"I’ll make the strawberry puree first," Leslie opened the huge fridge, looking for the strawberries Calix mentioned earlier, "En... ha! There is it!"

Leslie reached out for the box of strawberries. The red color was so appealing to her eyes. Each one of them was big and plump, looking so tasty.

While Calix was slicing the beef, Leslie washed the strawberries. She didn’t notice his gaze on the juicy fruit until he called her.

"Leslie, can you help me?" Calix paused from his tasks. His eyes remained on Leslie who stood a few feet away from him.

"What? Do you need something?" Leslie carried the drainer basket away from the sink. She transferred the strawberries to a plastic bowl.

Calix grinned sheepishly. He gestured at his hands, "Can you feed me one of those? My hands are dirty ah."

"..."

Leslie was stunned by the sudden request but, she quickly regained her composure. Before her cheeks reddened like strawberries, she nodded.

"O-okay. I’ll give you a big one."

Chasing the scandalous thoughts away from her mind, Leslie quickly picked one of the strawberries. She wanted to bring it to Calix when something struck her mind.

Should she just shove this big strawberry into his mouth? Haa... better to slice it first, wasn’t it?

Leslie settled to cut the strawberry in half before she finally delivered them to Calix. Standing next to CEO Xu, she raised one of the halves to him.

Wait...

Why did she forget that she could use a fork?

Leslie froze. She couldn’t possibly take a step back to get a fork. Wouldn’t it make the situation awkward?

"O-open your mouth ah," Leslie’s eyes drifted to Calix’s thin lips. Sensing the heat in her cheeks, she abruptly moved her gaze away, "Do you want strawberries or not?"

"Hehe, thanks."

A happy CEO Xu did as he was told. Opening his mouth, he bit the strawberry held by Leslie. The upper part of his lips gently brushed against the tips of her fingers.

"...does it taste good?"

"Sweet," Calix grinned. He munched the strawberry before swallowing it. Its sweet juice burst in his mouth, spreading on his tastebuds, "The other one."

"Yeah, yeah."

After finishing the sudden task, Leslie quickly returned to where she left the strawberries. She warned Calix not to ask for more, telling him to continue preparing the ingredients.

CEO Xu chuckled. Moving his eyes away from Leslie, he resumed slicing the beef. No one noticed how the tips of his ears reddened.

Leslie blended the strawberries first. She usually did this at home when the fruits were sold cheaper than usual. Calliope was a big fan of her strawberry milk.

When the items were available, Leslie would add some honey and lemon juice during the cooking process. She poured the red puree into a saucepan before dumping strawberry chunks, sugar, lemon juice and honey together.

Once everything was combined, Leslie heated the mixture. Gradually, the sweet scent of the strawberry sauce wafted in the air.

"Wow~ That smells so nice," Calix raised his gaze from the skillet. He looked at Leslie who used the stove on the other side of the kitchen, "Mrs. Xu, I can’t wait to try it."

Calix’s words nudged laughter out of Leslie’s mouth. Glancing at him, she replied cheekily, "Seems like if it’s strawberry, everything will look tasty to you."

"You know me well now," Calix shrugged.

Once Leslie was done boiling the strawberry mixture, she let it cool down first. Not sure what should she do for the time being, she ended up sitting at the kitchen island, watching CEO Xu cook.

From his swift movements and ability to juggle between dishes, Leslie could tell Calix was so experienced in cooking. The egg fried rice he made the other day and the congee from this morning were just the simple ones for him.

"Amazed by me, Leslie?" Calix grinned, happily teasing Leslie, "Don’t you think I have many qualities to be a husband?"

Leslie burst out laughing. She truthfully admitted, "You do ah, it’s undeniable. But, you still chose me instead of waiting for your beloved to come later in the future. Tsk, all because of your grandmother’s nagging."

Calix pretended to scowl, "Yeah, right. I think I’ve scammed myself into this marriage."

Leslie’s laughter grew louder before Calix joined her. The merry sound bounced off the walls of the huge kitchen.

A little over eight, dinner was served. Calix and Leslie simply ate in the kitchen instead of moving to the dining room. Aside from two tall glasses of strawberry milk, they were accompanied by mineral water as well.

Once again Leslie was amazed by Calix’s cooking. All of the dishes were cooked and seasoned well. None of them tasted off on her tongue.

"I’ll say this again. Once you’re bored being a CEO, you can open a restaurant or a cafe," Leslie giggled. Her heart was tickled when she tried to imagine the scenario.

"That sounds nice. I’ll cook. You can either make drinks or be the cashier," replied Calix, following along Leslie’s jest.

Even though Calix wanted to drink the strawberry milk, he made sure to wash off his tongue with the mineral water first. Only then did he grab one of the glasses and take a sip.

"..."

Calix brought the glass down, staring at the pinkish white milk. The red puree of the strawberry created swirls on the inside of the glass, most of them concentrated at the bottom.

Something unfathomable flickered in the abyss of his dark eyes.

"Calix? What’s wrong?" Leslie was slightly confused, "Err... not tasty?"

Leslie’s questions pulled Calix away from his trance. Shifting his gaze to her, he smiled and gently shook his head.

"Nothing. It’s just... the taste is quite familiar to me."

"Oh? I just followed the common recipe," answered Leslie.

"Haha, forget it. Perhaps, I’m mistaken," Calix took the crispy chicken, placing them in Leslie’s rice bowl, "Eat ah. I made them for you. Don’t you want this?"

"Ah, I’m eating," Leslie glared at Calix when a thought struck her mind, reminding her of something, "Oh, I forgot to ask you."

"What is it?"

Leslie put down her chopsticks, recalling what she had in mind this afternoon. It had to be done if she wanted to keep a peaceful mind.

"Can you contact Irene for me? I want her to do something."

Leslie’s request intrigued Calix. He paused from eating, "About what? What should I tell her?"

Under Calix’s curious gaze, Leslie explained about the missing pendant. She said she didn’t remember everything about her fall from the staircase.

"One thing’s for sure, I guess the one who pushed me has the pendant. Either he still keeps it or has sold it."

Leslie didn’t want to bring up Sarah’s name yet. She would wait until Calix called Irene later.

After a short moment of thinking, Calix came up with something else.

"Then... instead of calling your sister, how about we meet her directly?"

"Huh?"
