Chapter 73: Dear Sister, What Should You Tell Me?
"CALIX XU! Are you out of your mind?!"
"..."
Calix abruptly distanced the phone away from his left ear. He was happily watching a movie when suddenly, a call reached his private number.
Bringing the phone to his mouth instead of his ear, Calix replied calmly, "Language, my dear sister. Why do you still have the energy to get mad at me? Don’t you get tired? You lived in the forest..."
"To hell with that! We’re talking about you! Why did you get married out of the blue?!"
"..."
Evelyn’s loud and sharp voice pierced through Calix’s ears even though he had already taken a precaution. He stared impassively at the phone, thinking that his younger sister was not cute at all.
Evelyn had just come out of the forest. She was beyond shocked when her assistant told her about her second brother being a married man.
He got married a few days ago! When she was busy shooting!
Unable to believe the news, Evelyn quickly contacted her grandmother and her sister-in-law. The two ladies confirmed the news.
Another thunder of surprise struck Evelyn, leaving the youngest of the Xu siblings speechless. Especially when she learned that her new sister-in-law was the comatose young lady of the Li family.
"Second Brother! What have you done? Did you blackmail her father? To let you two marry? You did this to escape Grandma’s nagging, right?"
"..."
Calix was robbed of his words. His quick-thinking younger sister was clever enough to think of the reason behind his marriage.
Well, there was another one but, Calix wouldn’t bother explaining it to Evelyn.
"Stop complaining ah. I’ve married her. Try asking Aunt Wendy. She knows I’m good at taking care of my wife. She’s lucky to marry me."
This brat Evelyn could rival their grandmother when she started nagging. Calix always be her target.
"Tsk! Who’s lucky? Anyone who marries you is unlucky ah. She’ll be trapped forever with you."
Calix rolled his eyes, understanding full well that Evelyn was not done yet with her tirade. He needed to change the subject to avoid his ears bleeding.
"Have you heard of what happened to Violet last night?"
Evelyn abruptly paused. Hesitating, she quietly responded, "...yeah. Tiara told me. She heard it from Violet’s assistant, Leona."
Calix smirked. He didn’t want to use this trick but, he wasn’t in the mood to get nagged by Evelyn. Mentioning Violet was a good way to stop his sister.
Please! Don’t destroy his relaxing weekend mood!
"So, don’t you have something to say to me?" Calix wiggled his brows, enjoying the turning of tables now, "Didn’t Leona tell you of my role in her case? Huh, dear sister?"
Evelyn clamped her mouth shut, unable to retort her second brother’s remark. Even though she knew he deliberately changed the subject, she could do nothing about it.
"She did... you saved Violet before that evil woman’s plan happened."
Calix’s smile deepened. Mirth danced in his dark eyes, "And... what should you tell me?"
Evelyn huffed. Through gritted teeth, she unwillingly said, "T-thank you... for saving Violet."
"Hahaha!" Calix burst out laughing. The sound echoed loudly inside the lounge, "Yeah, yeah, my dear sister. You need to thank me ah. If not for me, something bad might happen to your good friend. So, stop nagging at me, huh?"
"...urgh! Yeah, yeah! You’re so annoying ah, Second Brother!"
"Huh! Who told you to nag at me? Hey, when will you be back? Mom and Dad will return for Qingming."
Evelyn’s schedule was usually chaotic and had rearrangements. However, Calix used his power as the CEO to make sure his sister was free during the Qingming Festival holiday.
Even though they already met their parents last February for the Lunar New Year, Calix still held importance in the family gathering. Fortunately, the busy Evelyn shared the same sentiment as his.
"I’ll return this Monday, earlier than expected. But, I still have photoshoots and interviews. My schedule is clear from April 2nd."
Calix nodded, satisfied with Evelyn’s answer. April 2nd fell on Sunday. Xu International would be on holiday from Monday to Wednesday. Added the weekend, they had five days of break.
"Treat your brother here to a meal later. To celebrate my marriage and save your friend. How does that sound?"
Frustrated, Evelyn quickly agreed, "...I’ll shove all the food into your big mouth."
"Hahaha! Eve, wanna hear how I took action last night? You know, I..."
Tut!
Without a greeting, Evelyn immediately hung up. She knew she would be the victim to hear Calix’s endless boasting. Her second brother was simply exacting revenge!
Calix stared at the phone. His laughter became louder. Shaking his head in helplessness, he wondered whether Evelyn’s fans knew this uncouth side of hers.
They might faint out of shock ah.
Putting the phone down, Calix glanced at the wall clock. It was a quarter to six. He should start preparing dinner now.
’Hurm... What she’s doing upstairs?’
Calix tilted up his head, hoping that he could see through the ceiling. Leslie had been staying inside her room from the afternoon.
Sigh... If only he had her ability to pass through the walls, he didn’t have to climb the stairs to get to the second floor. Using the home elevator was too excessive.
Shaking his head, Calix turned off the TV. He dragged his feet to the staircase. In no time, he arrived in front of Leslie’s bedroom.
Knock! Knock!
"Leslie, are you in there?"
They had shared the same room before back in the Li family’s ancestral home. But, Calix didn’t want to barge into Leslie’s private space without her permission unless it was necessary.
"Come in!"
Calix turned the handle, opening the door. He saw Leslie sitting on the couch with the novel in his hand while... her body still lay unconscious on the bed.
"C-cough! Have you thought about what to eat for dinner? Ask me anything ah. Let me show you my skills."
Leslie blinked, amused by CEO Xu’s confidence. Laughing softly, she closed the book before placing it on the couch.
"Hurm... Szechuan beef, crispy honey sesame chicken, chili oil cucumber salad and omelet. Can I?"
Leslie was not a picky eater. She loved both sweet, sour and spicy dishes. If there were things she couldn’t stand were animal organs.
Calix raised his brows, "Just those? Don’t you want more complex dishes?"
Still chuckling, Leslie jumped to her feet. Leaving the couch and Mimo, she approached Calix. The man didn’t step inside the bedroom.
"I wanna eat those. You can cook more for me later, CEO Xu. Oh, how about I make strawberry milk? Want it?"
Because Calix offered to cook the dishes, Leslie wanted to do something else in return. She didn’t want to simply wait for the dinner to be served.
"That sounds yummy," Calix’s eyes lit up. Turning around, he gestured to the staircase, "We still have fresh strawberries in the fridge. Use them as you like."
"Don’t you think the drink won’t fit the dishes?" asked Leslie teasingly. She walked slightly behind Calix. Her gaze fell on the base of his sweater neckline.
"No ah. Strawberry milk fits every occasion. Nothing’s wrong with it."
Leslie held back from laughing too much. She already expected Calix’s answer.
He spoke as a true strawberry lover!
