Chapter 63: Lounging at the Rooftop Pool

Leslie and Calix met one of the two private nurses once they returned to Graceville Manor, Mrs. Su. The other one was Mrs. An. The two professionals took turns taking care of Leslie – Charlene’s body.

Calix invited Mrs. Su to his home office. He wanted to clarify what the private nurses could and couldn’t do in this house. At least, these new arrangements would allow Leslie to be in peace.

"Mrs. Su, you and Mrs. An don’t have to take night shifts. You may come in the morning and stay until the evening. Night onwards, I’ll take the responsibility of caring for my wife. Oh, you don’t have to come in the weekend too."

Mrs. Su intently listened to the young man sitting opposite her. She and her colleague had been given reminders by their manager before coming to Graceville Manor.

Even though their employer right now was Old Madam Xu, they still needed to take Young Master Xu’s orders. After all, they were taking care of his wife within their home compound.

"How about when you’re away, Young Master Xu? As in, business trips?" asked Mrs. Su, trying to be transparent with the requirements.

"If it’s an overnight or a long trip, I’ll notify you," Calix subtly glanced at Leslie sitting next to him, "Most probably, you and Mrs. An need to stay the night during that period."

There was no leeway for this part. If Calix refused to change the arrangement when he was away for days, people would assume that he didn’t care for his newly wedded wife.

Leslie understood that Calix was doing all he could to avoid such things happening in the future. Old Madam Xu would certainly receive regular reports about her granddaughter-in-law’s condition.

"You may go now, Mrs. Su," Calix glanced at the clock. The needles were pointing to ten-thirty in the morning, "I’m going to stay home all day so, you can go home at noon."

Mrs. Su was bewildered, "But, Young Master Xu... I can’t leave that early. I should clock out at six at the very least."

Calix gave the middle-aged woman a polite smile, "It’s fine. As I said, I can handle my wife’s affairs. Don’t worry about your payment. I won’t cut any."

Calix planned to contact Old Madam Xu as soon as he finished the conversation with Mrs. Su. He wanted his grandmother to transfer the employment of the caretakers to him.

"T-thank you," Mrs. Su bowed slightly at Calix, "I’ll go now, Young Master Xu."

Calix watched the flustered Mrs. Su walking out of the home office. Once the woman closed the door, he shifted his gaze to Leslie.

"That’s all I can do," Calix’s smile had a hint of guilt, "Don’t go to your room when the nurses are there. If... you wanna avoid feeling awkward."

Leslie flinched, understanding what Calix meant. Her cheeks were tinted with the color pink.

"Yeah... I know. I won’t go there much during the day."

What else Leslie could do? She didn’t want to stumble into the scene of either Mrs. Su or Mrs. An bathing her body or... putting adult diapers on her.

Calix pursed his lips, raising his brows high. He jumped to his feet. Putting both hands into the pocket of his pants, he glanced at Leslie.

"What will you do now? Watching TV? Reading novels?" Calix immediately thought of other suggestions, "How about going to the gym? Or, to the rooftop pool?"

Leslie’s ears perked up. She abruptly returned Calix’s gaze to her.

"Will Aunt Wendy or Uncle Raymond go to the pool?" asked Leslie, a bit hesitatingly, "I wanna read some books there."

The rooftop poolside was so beautiful!

Leslie really admired the place when the first time she saw it during her adventure. It resembled the ones she often saw in travel magazines and on TV.

Calix grinned, understanding what Leslie was worried about. He replied, "They won’t. You go there first. I’ll get some food for us."

"Hehe, thank you, CEO Xu."

Thus, a happy Leslie quickly made her way to the rooftop poolside. She grabbed one of the thriller novels she found in Calix’s library.

Actually, Leslie wanted to start reading the diaries. But, she didn’t want to do it in Calix’s presence. She would find some other time to do that.

Leslie put the diaries inside Calix’s library, hidden on top of the tall shelves. Tonight might be a good time for her to begin.

Soon, Leslie arrived at the rooftop pool. Smiling happily, she took her time to admire the place again.

The huge pool sat in the middle, allowing the users to admire the scenic view surrounding Graceville Manor. The bright sunlight pierced through the clear water, leaving glitters on the swaying water surface.

Aside from comfortable lounge chairs and tables in between them, potted plants were placed accordingly around the pool. An outdoor shower was built on a corner of the poolside area.

"I wanna try swimming here, but... can I?"

Sighing, Leslie sat on the edge of the pool. She put both legs into the water.

"Oh?!"

Leslie initially thought her skirt would remain dry but, it went against her expectations. It turned wet and heavy.

"Is it like on the night I slept in the garden?"

Leslie recalled her dress had some dirt after waking up. But, the stains immediately disappeared when she simply brushed her hands over the fabric.

"Hurm... let’s try."

Retracting her legs out of the water, Leslie stood up on the mosaic tiles. She touched her wet skirt, only to find it dry after she let go of it.

"...this is confusing."

Shaking her head, Leslie stopped thinking about it. She already had so many things on her mind. Let’s just think of this weird matter as something beneficial to her.

"At least, this means I can swim," Leslie grinned, the sparkles on the water’s surface reflected the ones in her eyes, "Hehe, I haven’t swum for too long."

In her previous life, Leslie was a frequent visitor to the public swimming pool. She loved the feeling of gliding in the water.

But, Leslie lessened the frequency once she was pregnant with Calliope. She needed to rebuild her life after her lover’s death thus, she couldn’t afford the time luxury. Her days were spent working to earn money.

The situation went on until her untimely death. Even if Leslie brought Calliope to the public swimming pool, she only played in the children’s section because of her child.

"I should swim here when Calix’s not at home," Leslie laughed at herself. She didn’t realize that CEO Xu had come.

"Hey, hey, mesmerized by the pool?"

Calix’s joyful tone echoed from behind, prompting Leslie to turn around.

"Yes, it’s a good one. I tried... huh?"

Leslie stopped mid-sentence. Wide-eyed in surprise, she stared at Calix.

CEO Xu had changed out of his outfit earlier.

He donned a black three-quarter swim trunk. A navy blue towel hung on his broad shoulders, exposing his torso. His flattened scar was clearly visible under the sun.

"...will you swim?" asked Leslie.

"Of course!" replied Calix excitedly, "I should make full use of my day off ah. Oh, Aunt Wendy will deliver the food soon. You can read the book after she goes away."

"Haha... okay."

Leslie quickly sat on one of the lounge chairs. Calix started warming up. He tossed the towel on the chair next to hers. Her cheeks pinkened.

"..."

Was she too deprived of a man’s touch until she couldn’t bear looking at CEO Xu’s well-defined abdomen?
