Chapter 562: SS12: The Precious Pearls in Their Hearts

The little one arrived one spring morning. She was blessed by the prayers of the people eagerly awaiting her arrival.

Chaline Xu was the little bundle of joy’s name. Leslie and Calix carefully picked the name, intending to honor Charlene who became the link reconnecting them again.

"Poppy’s name is like Papa, Baby’s name is like Mama," Calliope commented once she, also everyone else, learned the little girl’s name.

Calix and Leslie laughed, knowing that Calliope referred to the lady’s legal name; Charlene.

"Indeed. Because both of you are Mama and Papa’s girls," Calix replied to which the weak Leslie nodded.

For the first few weeks, Calix and Leslie only focused on the newborn Chaline alongside Calliope. Thankfully, Old Madam Xu and the others accepted their decision not to accept visitors yet.

Still, Calix and Leslie kept in constant contact with them. They often sent photos and videos of the baby Chaline to the family group chat where the others gushed over her.

Calix, the devoted husband and father, took paternity leave. Fortunately, his father Andrian was willing to step into his role during his leave.

Calix dedicated himself to Leslie’s recovery and bonding with Chaline. At the same time, he didn’t want to make Calliope feel neglected.

Despite hiring a confinement lady and a nanny to provide professional care, Calix insisted on being present and hands-on during this precious time.

As for Calliope, the little dumpling eagerly embraced her role as a big sister. She was determined to help, also showering her baby sister with constant attention.

For Calliope, Chaline’s arrival wasn’t just about sharing her mama and papa, it was about gaining a lifelong companion. She vowed to always love and care for Chaline.

The mornings in Graceville Manor were no longer quiet. Chaline’s soft cries were the first sounds to break the stillness, followed by the shuffle of Calix’s footsteps as he rushed to tend to her.

Even though the nursery was set up properly, Leslie wanted to keep Chaline close to her during the first few weeks. The little one’s bassinet was placed inside their bedroom.

One morning, Calliope tiptoed into Calix and Leslie’s bedroom, her hair still a mess of bedhead. She hadn’t gotten ready for school yet.

Calliope was now a first-grader. Her private elementary school was just ten minutes from home.

Leslie was still sound asleep. She was too exhausted to notice Calliope coming. The little dumpling knew not to bother her mama when she was sleeping.

"Papa, Chali wake up yet?"

Calliope glanced at Calix who stood before the bassinet, and then her curious eyes peeking to look at Chaline.

"She just woke up," Calix replied with a smile, lifting Chaline with ease into his arms, "Want to help Papa change her diaper?"

"Yes~"

Calliope followed Calix to the washroom where a changing table was placed. He carefully laid Chaline on the surface, her tiny legs kicking the air.

"Poppy, pass me a diaper," Calix said as he gently wiped Chaline’s bottom. The little one seemed to giggle, showing her clear gums.

Handing a clean diaper to Calix, Calliope wrinkled her nose at the smell, giggles spilling from her lips, "Why Chali so stinky, Papa?"

"It’s part of being a baby ah," Calix chuckled, expertly finishing the diaper change, "You were like this too when you were a baby."

"Eww~" Calliope pretended to be horrified, then leaning down to kiss Chaline’s tiny forehead, "But, you’re still cute ah, Chali. Big Sister loveee you so much!"

Leslie had just stirred awake, just in time to hear Calliope’s exclamation coming through the open door of the washroom. Her lips curled into a smile as her heart bloomed with joy and contentment.

Leslie loved watching how tenderly Calix handled the baby Chaline, including how enthusiastic Calliope was to be with her little sister.

In the mornings, Calix sent Calliope to school, leaving Leslie and Chaline under the confinement lady and nanny’s care. Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond were also there to help.

In the afternoons, Calix went to pick Calliope up. Being on the paternity leave allowed him more free time than usual. If not, he usually was swamped with work at this hour.

When Calix was away to get Calliope, Leslie moved from the bedroom to the lounge, carrying the baby Chaline in her arms. She was strong enough to walk from one place to the next as long as she was being careful.

Sitting on the couch, the afternoon sunlight streamed through the windows, casting a golden glow over Leslie and Chaline.

The little one was wrapped snugly in a soft purple blanket, her tiny eyes wide and curious as she was cradled in her mama’s arm.

Leslie held up her index finger, moving it back and forth in the air. Chaline’s eyes seemed to follow the movement.

"Look, sweetie," Leslie murmured, her voice soft and melodic, "Can you catch Mama’s finger?"

Chaline’s tiny hand wobbled upward, her fingers splaying as she tried to grab Leslie’s finger. She gurgled softly, her lips parting, showing her adorable gummy smile.

Leslie chuckled gently, the light in her eyes softening, "Oh, Mama’s Chali is clever, aren’t you? Almost got it!"

Leslie lowered her finger, the tip lightly brushed Chaline’s palm. The baby’s fingers instinctively curled around it, holding it tightly.

Chaline let out a soft coo, her eyes sparkling with delight. The joy on her little face melted Leslie’s heart into a gooey mess.

"Mama~ Poppy’s home!"

Calliope’s voice, followed by her running footsteps drew Leslie’s attention away from Chaline. She didn’t realize the moment Calix’s car drove outside, before stopping under the roofed porch.

"Chali, your big sister is home now," Leslie lightly patted Chaline’s bum, smiling at Calliope, "Poppy, did you have fun at school? Hehe, missed Chali, en?"

"Poppy missed Mama and Chali so much~"

Calliope hugged Leslie’s arm before focusing on Chaline. The little dumpling’s lips broke into a wide grin once her baby sister stared at her with her gummy smile.

"Aiya, you forgot Papa behind."

Calix appeared soon after. His words elicited laughter from Leslie and Calliope while Chaline darted her tiny eyes to the man.

"Papa, look~ Chali holds Poppy’s hand," exclaimed Calliope, beaming with delight.

Chaline grabbed her elder sister’s hand after letting go of her mama’s. Her curious eyes wandered to the people around her.

"Maybe when Chali is bigger, she’ll follow Poppy to your judo class," Calix arched his brows, amused by his own assumption.

"Hehe~ Poppy will teach Chali then."

As Calliope giggled when Chaline cooing at her, Calix sank into the couch, wrapping his arm behind Leslie. They exchanged a loving smile before looking at their daughters, the precious pearls in their hearts.
