Leslie didn’t need more convincing from Calix. She immediately headed to the washroom, eager to find out the truth behind her husband’s suspicions.

"Sweetheart, I’ll just be outside."

Calix’s voice echoed faintly from the outside, muffled by the door. Leslie glanced behind her shoulder, her heart trembling from the anticipation.

Now that she thought about it again... didn’t she feel the same when she was pregnant with Calliope before?

She tended to feel more sleepy than usual, including how easy for her to doze off. At the same time, her appetite increased, leading her to eat bigger portions and more frequently.

Still, the changes this time were minimal in Leslie’s opinion. She suspected even if she was pregnant, it was barely in the first few weeks.

’Am I really pregnant? Well... let’s just check it, en?’

Holding the paper bag with different pregnancy test kits, Leslie sensed her heartbeat speeding up. She made up her mind, hoping to find out the results as soon as possible.

Outside the washroom, Calix almost circled the area as he waited for Leslie to come out. His eyes kept darting to his wristwatch, wondering how long would the test take.

"L-Leslie!"

Calix abruptly snapped his head toward the washroom door, seeing Leslie finally emerge. The glistening in her reddened eyes rang alarm bells in his mind.

Rushing to Leslie’s side, Calix lifted his hands, carefully grasping her shoulders. He anxiously took in the teary look on Leslie’s face.

"Sweetheart... it’s fine if it isn’t, we..."

Leslie gently shook her head, her lips trembling as she told Calix to sit on the bed. The man’s face stiffened before he nodded, his expression numb.

Sitting side by side, Leslie took in the curiosity mixed with slight fear on Calix’s face. Like her, he was also concerned about the results of the sudden pregnancy tests.

Without saying anything, Leslie brought up the two used test kits, now enclosed in clear plastic bags. Under Calix’s cautious gaze, she nodded with a smile, encouraging him to look at them.

Calix took the plastic bags, his hands trembling. His gaze remained on Leslie’s face one moment longer before slowly looking at the test kits.

One kit clearly spelled ’PREGNANT’ while the other showed two bold lines, staring at Calix. His breath caught as a wave of emotions surged through him.

Surprise, joy and the heartwarming sense of love.

Calix looked up at Leslie, his eyes shimmering. A slow, radiant smile spread across his face, mirroring the overflowing happiness in his heart.

"Sweetheart..." Calix whispered, his voice breaking slightly, "Thank you... Thank you so much."

Before Leslie could say anything, Calix wrapped her in an embrace. He kept chanting his gratitude, his chest rising and falling as he absorbed the reality.

Chuckles slipped out of Leslie’s lips. Returning Calix’s hugs, silent tears streaming down her face. She bit her lower lip, unable to form coherent words amidst her joy.

Leslie remembered how her body froze once she saw the results displayed by the test kits. Her heart suspended for a moment before it rammed rapidly against her chest.

Indeed. She was pregnant. Without her realizing it, she nurtured their second child in her womb.

Leslie pulled away slightly from Calix, just enough to look at his countenance. Laughing helplessly, she gently cupped his face, feeling his warm tears sliding on her palms.

"We’re going to have our second child," Leslie whispered ever so softly, more tears glistening in her eyes, "And... you’ll be by my side this time."

"Y-yes..."

Calix choked on his sob, his voice carrying tremors as he struggled to speak. Lifting his hands, he covered the back of Leslie’s hands, grasping them into his palms.

"I will be by your side this time. I won’t leave."

Calix’s earnest sincerity, expressed through his gaze and his voice, enveloped Leslie’s heart with warmth and bliss. Unable to speak, she nodded a few times before more chuckles slipping out her lips.

The husband and wife nestled in each other’s embrace once again, relishing the bliss of the moment. The gentle breeze blew through the grape and olive trees, carrying the soft echo of nature.

After some time, Calix loosened his arms around Leslie. He parted his lips, wanting to say something but, no words came out of his mouth.

Leslie tilted her head, sensing Calix’s hesitation. She gently patted his back, her arms still around his waist.

"What’s wrong? You know you can voice anything to me, en?"

Not only Calix and Leslie often sought Dr. Mo and Dr. Wang’s advice but, they also always shared their opinions in their conceiving journey, including how they wanted to raise their second child alongside Calliope.

Calix let out a sigh, his lips curving into a faint smile. He finally spoke, his tone cautious, "Let’s get yourself checked tomorrow. We won’t return until next week so... I think we should check with a doctor here first."

Calix was genuinely happy to know his suspicions came true. They had just started actively trying to conceive last month, only to be blessed so soon.

Leslie’s health improved far beyond the state when they first talked to Dr. Mo about conceiving. Still, Calix couldn’t help but worry.

Understanding Calix’s concern, Leslie nodded. Even though she felt healthy aside from feeling more sleepy and having a bigger appetite, it was better to be on the safe side.

"Okay, honey. Let’s go to the doctor tomorrow," Leslie smiled, her eyes gleaming with hope and joy, "We will bring Poppy and tell her that she’ll be an elder sister."

"Hehe, she’ll be so happy."

Calix laughed, sensing the tension loosening within him. Once again he hugged Leslie, seeking her comforting warmth.

The night outside was serene, wrapped in a cool, gentle breeze carrying the faint aroma of lavender. The moon hung low, casting a silver glow that bathed the area in soft, ethereal light.

The pair of lovebirds still wrapped in an embrace. Her head nestled against his chest where she could hear his quickened heart beat.

This was the new start of their long journey of life.
