Chapter 519: There’s No Turning Back!

"Thank you, Miss Tan. We’re excited to see the results."

"The pleasure is mine, Mrs. Xu," Theresa smiled warmly, her eyes shifting to Calliope, "I promise your dress will be extra sparkly, Little Miss Calliope."

The little dumpling smiled shyly, her eyes sparkling like the dress she wished for, "Hehe~ Thank you, Miss Tan."

Calix, Leslie and Calliope headed out of the dressing room, all happy despite being slightly tired. Theresa still stayed in the room. The family of three met Mrs. Wei halfway through the corridor.

"I trust the consulting went well," Mrs. Wei smiled, pleased to see the satisfied looks on Leslie and Calix’s countenances, "If you still need anything, feel free to tell us."

CEO Xu had been a loyal customer of Lavender Thread. How could Mrs. Wei be willing to lose him?

"Miss Tan does her job perfectly," Leslie said, adjusting the strap of her handbag, "Mrs. Wei, thank you for arranging everything for us."

"It’s always a pleasure to serve your family," Mrs. Wei stated graciously. Glancing from Leslie to Calix, she said, "We look forward to making you all shine at the banquet."

"We believe so," Calix chimed in. His eyes flickered with mischief as he added, "Now, I think we should make the necessary payment before we go."

Mrs. Wei laughed lightly, "There’s no need to make any payment yet, CEO Xu. We haven’t even sent you design drafts. And, we can just add it to your tab, CEO Xu. Like you always do."

Because Calix often purchased outfits from this boutique, he set up a special credit payment under his name. Every purchase would be deducted from the amount he had credited beforehand.

"Oh, I’ll go the common paying route," Calix grinned, one corner of his lips rising higher, "My wife will complete the purchase today. Let’s just make it easy for everyone else."

"..."

Leslie could only smile at the beaming Mrs. Wei. Calix had already slipped the black card into her purse, insisting she finalized the payment.

"Sure. Please come with me, Mrs. Xu."

"...yes."

Leslie shot a look at the grinning Calix before following Mrs. Wei. The man replied with a flying kiss, earning another glare from the former.

Calliope looked from her mama to her papa, wondering what made her papa smile like the Cheshire cat she saw on a kid’s show.

As the time approached noon, several patrons could be seen wandering around the boutique. Most of them were ladies, seemingly looking for their next purchase.

Carrying Calliope, Calix walked a few feet behind Leslie. His appearance caught some of the ladies’ attention.

"Isn’t that... CEO Xu?"

"That child... the rumored daughter?"

"Then! Is his wife here? Ah! That young lady?"

Leslie heard the hushed whispers coming from a few of the patrons. Thinking that they were from the upper class of the city, they most likely recognized Calix.

And...

The weight of their stares made Leslie feel helpless. Fortunately, none of them dared to come close and talk to her directly.

Mrs. Wei stood behind the counter, operating the computer before totaling the purchase. Calix stood close to Leslie, his tall figure towering over her.

Leslie’s smile stiffened upon seeing the figures displayed on the screen. Her annual pay as a teacher back then didn’t even come close to the amount of these customized dresses.

But...

There was no turning back! Let’s just swipe her husband’s black card!

"Please swipe the card there, Mrs. Xu," Mrs. Wei gestured at the wireless payment terminal to Leslie.

"Alright."

Leslie felt her hands tremble slightly when she took out her purse from the cream-colored handbag.

What to do?

Even though she was used to living in luxury now, having this black card made it seem so surreal.

Leslie bit her lower lip, slipping the black card out of her lilac purse. Her eyes fell on the sleek and glossy surface of the card.

Finally, she experienced swiping this black card herself.

Haha...

With one swipe, Leslie finalized the purchase, much to Mrs. Wei’s delight.

"Thank you for your patronage, Mrs. Xu. We’ll call you within this week. I assure you that our designer, Miss Tan won’t disappoint you."

Leslie softened the smile on her lips, hoping she wouldn’t look weirdly tense. Nodding, she said, "You’re welcome. Then, I’ll wait for your call."

"We’ll go now," Calix held Leslie’s right hand with his free left one, "See you again, Mrs. Wei."

"Bye-bye, Mrs. Wei," Calliope cutely waved at the manager, "The cookies yummy ah."

"I’ll give you more the next time you come, Little Miss Xu," Mrs. Wei chuckled, returning the wave, "See you again."

The family of three turned around, walking out of the boutique in clean and steady steps. The ladies’ eyes still trailed after them until they disappeared among the crowds of patrons outside.

"Hehe, how did you feel when you swiped that card, en?" Calix raised his brows, happily teasing Leslie. He noticed how his wife suddenly froze before she made the purchase.

"I was so shocked when I saw the price. And..." Leslie smiled sheepishly. She covered her mouth, staring at Calix, "Those people... will they be at the banquet too?"

Understanding who Leslie meant, Calix shrugged, "Maybe. Mom and Dad handle the guest list. Why? Are you worried about something, sweetheart?"

Leslie smiled faintly at Calix, noticing the slight concern in his eyes.

"It’s nothing. I just hope I won’t embarrass you and our family. You know that..."

"You won’t embarrass us, ever," Calix quickly added, halting on his tracks. He squeezed her hand, hoping to reassure us, "We’re your family, sweetheart. Like how Poppy is our daughter."

Calliope’s ears perked up once she heard her name being mentioned.

Looking from Calix to Leslie, the little dumpling said, "Poppy is family with Mama and Papa ah. Great-Grandma, Grandma, Grandma and everyone!"

"See? Our smart Poppy said that," Calix grinned, pressing soft kisses on Calliope’s chubby cheeks.

Giggling, Calliope squirmed on Calix’s arm, "Hehehe~ Papa, tickle ah!"

Blinking, Leslie watched Calliope and Calix’s lovely interaction. Helplessness dawned on her as she reminded herself this was her reality now.

"Sorry. Suddenly... I feel nervous."

"Don’t be sorry," Calix released Leslie’s hand, reaching for her waist in the next second. He lowered his tone, sounding softer than before, "I’ll give you a pep talk whenever you need it, sweetheart."

Pursing her lips, Leslie asked quietly, "How much do you charge per session? Should I use the black card to pay you?"

"..."

"Hehe."

Leslie covered her mouth at the sight of Calix shooting her a look. She almost cried when he suddenly pinched her waist.

"Hungry! Papa, Mama, so hungry!"

Calliope’s exclamation redirected Calix and Leslie’s attention from each other to the little dumpling.

"Aiya, you’re always so hungry," Calix narrowed his eyes, pretending to glare at Calliope.

"Papa, Poppy want some fried chicken, please~"

Calliope quickly smiled cutely at Calix, trying to get away from any possible poking at her chubby cheeks.

"Fried chicken sounds nice," Leslie chuckled, agreeing with the hungry Calliope, "Where should we go, honey? Any good place?"

"Hurm... maybe we should..."

Calix didn’t get to end his words when Kenneth’s voice suddenly echoed through the earbud.

"Boss, Mr. N just left the cafe. Right after you left the boutique."
