Chapter 51: What Happened When She Was Away?

Chapter 51: What Happened When She Was Away?

No matter how happy Leslie watched the panicking Sarah, she hadn’t forgotten the important thing to do. She needed to bring the diaries out of this bedroom without being noticed.

But, how to do it?

Ignoring Sarah’s frenzy, Leslie contacted Mimo once again.

"Hey, Mimo. I wanna take something from here. Won’t they see the items floating in the air? I don’t wanna scare anyone ah."

Leslie returned to the underneath of the bed. She looked at the diaries stacked on the floor. More were kept inside the floor storage.

As always, Mimo was quick to reply to Leslie. Its childlike laughter echoed in her mind before the fox toy answered her inquiry.

|That’s so simple! Hide the things under your clothes ah. Have you forgotten? You can change clothes. People won’t see your clothes floating. The items can pass through walls like you too.|

"...how convenient," laughed Leslie dryly.

But, the diaries were too many ah. They couldn’t fit under her clothes well. She needed to come up with another way.

While thinking of what should she do, Leslie’s eyes were locked on a hat and coat stand being placed by the door.

Oh! She could do it!

Instead of concealing the diaries under her clothes, she should wear one of the jackets left here. Such an outer garment would be a better choice in executing this plan.

Leslie just needed Sarah to run away from this room. Or, how about showing a floating jacket to the latter?

Let the thieving maid experience another taste of horror.

"Argh! The scent won’t go! What should I do?"

Sarah’s scream was met with an impassive look from Leslie. She couldn’t stop shaking her head because of the former’s foolish act.

"Well, you’ll meet your comeuppance soon. Be prepared for it."

Leslie watched Sarah sneaking out of the bedroom. That traitorous woman left the broken perfume bottle on the floor. She might return with something she could use to lessen the strong scent.

"Hurm, I better get back to work."

Calix might still be in the dining room. Leslie didn’t want him to wonder where she was. She needed to quickly sort out her current task.

Moving away from the bed, Leslie floated toward the wardrobe. Most of the clothes were suitable for spring. Perhaps, the maids replaced the content of the wardrobe.

"A jacket... a long and big one. Is there none here?"

Leslie’s eyes brightened the moment she spotted a brown long jacket inside the wardrobe. This one was perfect!

Taking the jacket out of its hanger, Leslie deliberately wore it in front of the full-length mirror.

At first, the long jacket seemed to float in the air. But, it vanished from the mirror once Leslie properly put it on her body even without buttoning it.

"Wow... like magic."

Mimo had told Leslie about it two days ago but, she hadn’t tried it. Her successful attempt made her happy. She silently thought that she should do this more often.

"Sigh... how fickle a woman’s heart is."

Leslie laughed at herself. She was enchanted by the beautiful clothes she saw back in Graceville Manor. Everything belonged to Charlene. They were brought there by the Li family’s helpers.

In the next moment, Leslie started working. She carried as many diaries as she could, obscured by the jacket before she flew to Calix’s car parked in the front yard.

After three times, Leslie managed to gather all of them. She placed the diaries in the backseat.

"Should I get more items?" Leslie tapped her chin slowly, thinking of the idea. Her eyes landed on the trunk of the car, "Will they notice their disappearance if I do that?"

No one had ever seen the diaries thus, it was not a problem for Leslie to take all of them. But, the other items in the bedroom were a different case altogether.

"Hurm... maybe not."

Leslie returned to the bedroom to store the jacket back inside the wardrobe. She had left Calix fending off the Li family alone for quite some time already.

When Leslie was on her way out of the bedroom, she saw Sarah again. The latter came with a bucket of bottles. Her pale countenance showed that she was still being frantic over the shattered perfume bottle.

"Hehe, enjoy taking time cleaning."

Leslie grinned mischievously. No longer paying attention to Sarah, she hovered in the air, heading to the dining room.

"...grant this old lady’s wish as your grandmother-in-law."

While passing through the walls, Leslie barely picked up the words spoken by Old Madam Li. Confused, she looked in the old lady’s direction.

’Grant a wish? Did really she say that?’

Old Madam Li was smiling at Calix but, it didn’t appear sincere as always. The rest of the people at the dining table were staring at both of them.

’What happened when I was away?’

Brows furrowing, Leslie shifted her gaze to Calix. The young CEO was calmly taking a sip of his tea. She reached out a hand, gently poking one side of his shoulders.

"Calix, did she request something?"

CEO Xu put down the teacup. Tilting up his head, he subtly glanced at Leslie before focusing on Old Madam Li.

"Grandmother-in-law, you wish for me to spend the night here?"

Leslie was surprised. She didn’t foresee that at all.

"Can’t you?" Old Madam Li’s smile showed what was left of her teeth, "Calix, you suddenly become my grandson-in-law. I hope that you’ll feel comfortable to be here. You can start by spending the night at our abode."

Leslie was at a loss for words. She didn’t know what should she tell Calix.

’If we stay the night here, I can wander around the house longer.’

Leslie still had many things to do in the Li family’s ancestral home. She hadn’t gone to the place where Charlene fell from the stairs.

’I might trigger some memories if I check that place. Strangely, there’s no memory of that day.’

Mimo mentioned that not all memories were accessible to Leslie. If they were concealed by Charlene due to trauma, it would take time for her to uncover them.

Too caught up in her own thoughts, Leslie didn’t notice that once again Calix looked at her albeit briefly.

"I don’t have important work in the morning. Grandmother-in-law, I’ll stay here tonight."

Calix’s decision stunned Leslie. As for Old Madam Li, her eyes brightened up.

Calix didn’t tell them that he wouldn’t go to work tomorrow, unwilling to socialize with the Li family too much.

"Good, that’s so good," Old Madam Li moved her attention to the butler, "Butler Yang, prepare a guestroom for Calix. Give the best one for him."

"Understand, Old Madam."

"There’s no need," Calix swiftly interfered. While pretending not to see Leslie’s confusion, he said, "I’ll stay in my wife’s bedroom."

Old Madam Li blinked. Rowan, Geoffrey and the rest also stared at Calix speechlessly.

"Calix, I know you’re Charlene’s husband, but..."

Calix maintained his polite smile yet, he was firm with his request.

"Because I’m Charlene’s husband, I want to learn more about her life here. I’ll only spend the night if I can stay in her bedroom."

Leslie’s initial surprise morphed into delight. Grinning, she refrained from applauding to Calix.

This was so unexpected but, this was great for her!

CEO Xu was the best!
