Chapter 465: A Quaint Wooden Hut Nestling Near the Shore
"Oh! Flowers!"
"For you, my love."
Leslie was surprised with an array of fresh flowers once Calix opened the backseat of the four-wheel-drive truck. Chuckles slipped out of her lips, earning a fond smile from him.
Taking one of the bouquets, Calix handed the flowers to Leslie with care. A sheepish smile hung on his lips as he uttered, "I hope to make tonight special and memorable for you."
A tint of pink blush colored Leslie’s cheeks. She took the bouquet from Calix before bringing it closer to her face. The sweet fragrance rose to the tip of her nose, alleviating her nerves.
"Thank you, honey," Leslie’s smile widened while her blush deepened, "I believe it’ll be special and memorable for us both."
Calix let out a throaty chuckle. Dipping his head in, he pressed his lips on the corner of Leslie’s. He was tempted to give her a deep kiss but, right now was not the suitable time.
"We shall go now, sweetheart," Calix opened the door of the front passenger seat, "Here. Let me help you."
"Okay."
The night had just begun but, Leslie was already one blushing mess. Holding the bouquet close to her chest, she held Calix’s hand when getting inside the truck. He quickly sat behind the wheels.
Calix and Leslie enjoyed the night breeze as the windows were wound down. He drove the truck on a quiet coastal road.
The vast sky canvas of deep blue stretched out above them with dots of stars twinkling like diamonds. The salty scent of the ocean filled the air as the breeze blew through the open windows.
"I wonder where you are taking me."
Tearing her eyes away from the serene landscape, Leslie looked at Calix’s side profile. She caught a glimpse of his lips curling into a smile.
"You’ll love it, sweetheart," Calix glanced at Leslie, flashing a confident smile, "I just know it."
Leslie burst into chuckles. She liked hearing the confidence imbuing in Calix’s voice and expressed on his countenance.
"I also know I will love your surprise, honey."
Calix laughed upon listening to Leslie’s remark. He didn’t know the joy of his chuckles made her heart flutter, warming her inside.
Soon, the headlights of the truck shined on a quaint wooden hut, nestling near the shore. Calix slowed the truck to a gentle stop, and the sound of the waves kissing the shore grew louder.
"We’ve arrived."
An awestruck Leslie couldn’t pull her eyes away from the hut even after Calix helped her to climb down the truck.
Strings of warm lights were draped across the porch and the nearby palm trees, illuminating the small wooden hut. The soft, golden light danced in the gentle ocean breeze, shining over the white sandy beach.
Flickering candles, shielded in jars to avoid the breeze, lined the steps. Their soft light mingled with the string lights, seemingly inviting the lovers to the intimate setting.
Leslie trailed her eyes to the table standing at the center of the wooden porch. A pair of candles, also covered with jars, flickering in the middle.
"Hehe, a candlelit dinner by the beach," Leslie tilted up her chin, smiling fondly at Calix who shared the same gaze as her, "I’ve fallen for this."
Calix chuckled. He nuzzled his nose on Leslie’s before kissing her cheek, "I’m glad you think so. Let’s go. I’ll bring the food out soon."
Mrs. Fu and her team prepared the food for tonight’s event. They kept the dishes warm in the kitchen of the hut, just waiting to be brought out by Calix once he and Leslie arrived here.
Calix and Leslie climbed the short stairwell before heading to the table. He pulled up a chair for her. The excitement in his eyes resembled the flickering candles.
"I’ll serve you the dishes now, milady."
Calix kissed Leslie’s knuckles before disappearing inside the hut. His actions lured laughter out of her lips.
Leslie swept her gaze across the scenery of the beach. She smiled at the sight of the moon’s reflection shimmering on the ocean’s surface.
The soft echo of the waves lapping against the shore created a tranquil melody, helping Leslie to further relax her tingling nerves of anticipation.
"Dinner’s here."
Calix returned with a three-tiered food trolley. Under Leslie’s smiling gaze, he served the plates on the table. He opted for a two-course meal.
"Thank you, honey," Leslie gave Calix a sweet smile before looking at the plates, "All look so delicious ah."
"Hehe, let’s dig in, my love."
Calix and Leslie savored the meal while filling the night with their chatter and laughter. The echoes of the waves harmonized with their voices.
For once, they truly focused on themselves.
After finishing the main course, Calix served some desserts. They sat on a bench at the other end of the porch instead of staying at the table.
Nestling against one another, Calix forked a small piece of pudding before bringing it to Leslie’s mouth. Always a foodie, her eyes twinkled upon tasting the sweet and cool treat.
"It’s so peaceful here," mused Leslie once she finished two cups of the puddings, "Hehe, should we be hermits and live in the island?"
Calix burst out laughing, entertained by Leslie’s remark, "Hahaha! That sounds so tempting ah. Away from all the stress from work and lives."
Interlocking their fingers together, Calix and Leslie exchanged a look. The affection they had for each other mirrored in their eyes.
"I’m always grateful for finding you, honey," whispered Leslie, her voice barely audible above the night breeze, "You accept me and our daughter as we are."
Sensing the slight shift in Leslie, Calix’s brows forming a frown. He pulled her closer to him, his eyes locking into hers.
"I’m also thankful for meeting you and our daughter again, my love," Calix smiled, hoping to ease the tension in Leslie’s heart, "We might have lost a few years but, we’re together now."
Before the fateful day of him marrying her a few months ago, Calix had never expected to fall in love with Leslie. Despite their uncanny first encounter, he enjoyed every moment being with her.
’I’m also happy we’re together now. Again.
Whether he was Calix or Axel, Leslie loved him the same.
Lifting one of her hands, Leslie reached for Calix’s collar. A lovely shade of pink left a tint on her cheeks as her eyes wandered into his lovely ones.
"Honey, I want you. Now."
Calix deepened his smile. Caressing Leslie’s face, he asked, his tone almost purring, "Are you sure, my love?"
"Yes," Leslie nodded softly, "I’m sure."
Now and forever. She only wanted him.
