Chapter 459: Their Summer Adventure Began
Staring blankly at the ceiling, Leslie’s gaze trailed the illumination of the underbed lights. Calix’s breathing was steady, implying he was deep in his sleep.
’We’ll be okay. We’ll be okay.’
Leslie chanted the same words in her mind, hoping they would unsettle her heart’s uneasiness. She also reminded herself that the Calix in the novel ended up emerging victoriously in the end.
’We’re the main characters of our new lives now. We will get through this.’
Closing her eyes, Leslie nestled closer to Calix. She tried to comfort herself with the knowledge of them already learning Nicholas Wu’s identity by now.
Sooner or later, the man would be defeated.
And... as Calix said, they would focus more on their family once this matter met its end.
Following the night Calix told Leslie about Nicholas’ background, no other clues were coming their way. But, the lack of new information didn’t dampen their mood.
Their family beach trip was finally happening!
The sun was warmer than usual on the day they departed for the island but, the heat was still bearable.
Aside from the family of three and a group of bodyguards, Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond also joined the trip. They arrived at the dock where they would transfer to a yacht around nine-thirty in the morning.
"Wow~ Mama! A big boat!"
An awestruck Calliope pointed to the yacht floating by the wooden dock. She pushed the wide-brim hat covering her little head upward, wanting to get a good look at the yacht.
Leslie chuckled, happy to see the excitement on Calliope’s face. She wheeled herself closer to the little one. She planned to utilize her energy for walking once they reached the island.
"It’s a yacht, my darling. We will ride it to go to the island."
"Woww!"
Calix burst into laughter, amused with Calliope’s eagerness. Donning a white floral shirt and khaki shorts, he appeared more relaxed than usual.
After days of hard work, Calix successfully extended the trip to another day. He would be away from the office for four days instead of three.
If there was any emergency, Edward would go to Andrian. The middle-aged man was happy to give his second son some time away from work to be spent with his family.
"Don’t run around ah," Calix quickly picked Calliope up, trying to prevent the little dumpling from falling over the dock, "Save your energy for later. We’ll play at the beach soon."
"Aaaa...." Calliope pouted, trying to free herself from her father, "Papa, let go ah."
"No."
A dejected Calliope puffed her cheeks, resembling two balloons. Leslie and Calix shared the same helpless laughter over their daughter’s antics.
"Let’s get on the yacht."
Following Calix’s words, Aunt Wendy wheeled Leslie up the ramp connecting the dock and the yacht. The young lady didn’t trust herself to rely on her cane because of the waves swaying the vessel.
Soon, they departed from the dock. The captain steered the yacht, accompanied by his assistant. The bodyguards were scattered around the luxury boat.
Calix, Leslie and Calliope sat on the deck, gazing around the area. Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond were relaxing on another part of the deck.
As the dazzling sun cast a golden glow on the sparkling blue ocean, the breeze carried the salty scent of the sea. At a far distance, the sky and the ocean aligned on the horizon.
"Poppy, don’t you feel dizzy?" Calix peered at Calliope’s face, worrying if the little one would suffer from seasickness, "If you are, tell Papa and Mama ah."
"No dizzy ah."
Calliope replied without looking at Calix. Her whole attention was on the vast ocean. A huge yet adorable pink glasses set atop her nose bridge.
"Seems like our daughter will be fine," said Leslie with a chuckle, understanding what Calix was concerned about.
"Seems like it," Calix smiled in helplessness.
The yacht ventured further from the mainland, shrinking the distance between the vessel and the private island with every passing minute. The island gradually came into view.
An eager Calliope kept asking when they would arrive as her anticipation continued to grow. Calix and Leslie exchanged chuckles at their daughter’s enthusiasm.
"Papa and Mama’s little explorer is so excited ah. We’ll be there soon, buttercup. Just a bit more to go."
Calliope held herself back from running around the deck. Her little face scrunched up as she concentrated on the island.
"Mama! Papa! Palm trees! Look!"
Calliope’s voice cut through the air. Her short finger pointed to the swaying palm trees at the sandy white beach. The sand shimmered in the sunlight.
"We’ll get down soon," exclaimed Calix while patting Calliope’s head, "We’ll have time to play."
"Playing with sparklers too?" asked Leslie in wonder.
"Hehe, yes. We’ll sparklers too."
The little dumpling’s eagerness seeped into Leslie. She also anticipated the moment they would disembark.
Truth to Calix’s words, the yacht docked in less than ten minutes. Two executive vans waited for them, handled by the Xu family’s staff who resided on the island.
"Welcome, Second Young Master, Second Young Madam and Little Miss."
One of the staff led the others to greet the family of three. They also did the same to Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond.
"Hello," Leslie smiled at them, "It’s a pleasure to meet you. We’ll be in your care now."
Leslie returned the greeting while urging Calliope to do the same. The staff were delighted to meet the new madam and little miss of the Xu family.
Calix grabbed the handles of Leslie’s wheelchair. He swept his gaze around, seeing the delighted looks on his wife and daughter’s faces.
"Well, everyone’s excited to play now but, let’s get some rest first."
"We’ve prepared everyone’s rooms," said one of the staff. He gestured at the vans, "Young Master and Young Madam, let’s head to the villa."
Soon, the vans departed from the dock, bringing the family of three and their entourage to the villa.
Their summer adventure began!
