Chapter 448: A Planned Coincidence

"...Leslie?"

"Mama! Why your face so white ah?"

Calix’s cautious tone and Calliope’s curious voice filtered through Leslie’s trance, pulling her back to reality. Blinking her eyes, she slowly and stiffly turned to look at her husband and their daughter.

Both Calix and Calliope wore the same expression on their face, one of worry.

"I... I just..."

With words stuck in her throat right after she tried to speak, Leslie hurriedly shifted her gaze to the entrance, her pupils trembling in fear and disbelief. She no longer saw any traces of that man and Belinda.

Alarmed by Leslie’s uncanny behavior, Calix’s frown deepened. He made a gesture with his right hand, calling for one of the bodyguards hiding among the crowds.

"Boss Xu."

Calix looked at Calliope in his arms. The little dumpling’s round eyes kept darting from him to Leslie. He understood that she was also bothered by her mother’s demeanor.

"Poppy, follow Samuel to the van, okay?" uttered Calix, his voice soft and steady, "Papa has to accompany Mama to the toilet."

"Oh... okay, Papa. Mama, Poppy wait for Mama in the van."

Calliope easily bought Calix’s excuse. The bodyguard named Samuel carefully carried the little dumpling from his boss. The young man nodded at Calix before bringing Calliope away.

Once Samuel and Calliope left, Calix focused his attention on Leslie. Fortunately, a little color had returned to her face, easing a little part of his concerned heart.

Crouching opposite Leslie, Calix grasped one of her hands, sensing her body shivering. He parted his lips, carefully asking her, "Sweetheart, is something bothering you?"

Calix couldn’t help but guess this had something to do with Leslie receiving a vision. Her behavior, despite being slightly different, reminded him of the day Violet was almost violated[01].

Was his instinct right?

Perhaps...

Leslie glanced around them. She was slightly relieved to know they were far from the passing crowds and also not hindering anyone’s path. Still, they had to leave for the van quickly.

The longer she stayed in this place, the more uneasy her heart was.

Grasping Calix’s hand, Leslie whispered, her voice laden with urgency, "I know. I know now... who is Nicholas Wu."

Stunned, Calix’s eyes widened in disbelief before they sharpened in the next second. His heart beating rapidly, his mind quickly recalled the little scene that had just occurred earlier.

"Do you mean... that man is..."

Leslie nodded even before Calix verbalized his guess. She hurriedly added, "It is him."

What happened next was a blur.

Calix thanked Leslie for telling him before wheeling her to the van. He immediately sent urgent instructions to Edward and his security team, telling them to investigate the man seen with Belinda at the hotel.

Without a doubt, he was the same friend Belinda said she was having a meal with inside the restaurant.

Sitting in the backseat, Leslie quietly looked at Calix exchanging words with the person at the end of the line. His forehead wrinkled with worry while his eyes blazed with irritation.

Logan sat behind the wheels, steadily driving to the Xu family’s ancestral home. Calliope was playing with Mimo, including singing to children’s rhymes.

’Thank you.’

’Thank you.’

’Thank you.’

Leslie silently chanted gratitude in her heart. Receiving this clear vision allowed them to be a few steps ahead of Nicholas.

A rush of moving images flooded Leslie’s mind once her eyes collided with the man’s face. As painful and head throbbing as the surge was, they laid out piece by piece, telling her he was indeed Nicholas Wu.

The very person who planned to ruin the Xu family by misdirecting his anger.

Afraid of alerting Nicholas, Leslie exerted every force within her, trying to hold back from crying in pain. Her face was devoid of color by the time Calix and Calliope looked at her.

Mimo also clarified it for Leslie when she asked the crochet fox toy telepathically earlier.

’Mimo, is it him, right? Nicholas Wu?’

|Yes, Leslie. Meeting him triggered the visions to come to you. Let’s talk more once you’ve calmed down. Everything will be fine.|

Leslie held on to Mimo’s words. She would talk to the crochet fox toy when she was alone later.

Leslie could just interact with Mimo by telepathy while still inside the van but, she didn’t believe in her ability to stay calm. Calix and Calliope would be alarmed if they saw her crying or in a panic.

’This wasn’t a coincidence. He’s lurking nearby.’

Chills ghosted down Leslie’s spine as the gravity of the situation dawned on her. Clasping her hands together, she reluctantly listened to the buzzing echo of her rapidly beating heart.

’Leslie, calm down. Calm down. We’ve known who he is. We’ll win this battle sooner than expected.’

Leslie repeatedly told herself she had nothing to worry about anymore because Nicholas Wu’s identity had been uncovered.

Nicholas would continue spying on the Xu family but, he wouldn’t ever guess his actions were already known to Calix. Andrian and Vernon also were vigilant over this issue.

All of them were eager to protect their loved ones from the man’s misdirected vendetta.

"...en?"

Noticing a familiar warmth on the back of her hands, Leslie blankly stared at her lap. Her eyes trailed the broad hand covering hers before they settled on Calix’s face.

"Sweetheart," Calix smiled, his countenance and voice no longer having rough and tense edges, "We’ll be fine. Thank you."

Calix’s simple words spoke volumes to Leslie. Blinking, she sensed heat at the corners of her eyes as tears slowly pooled there.

He reassured her that nothing would go wrong.

The warm touch on the back of her hands, including his soft smile, helped to soothe the fears clouding her mind.

Nodding, Leslie smiled, "Yes, honey."

Calix squeezed Leslie’s hands, his heart torn at seeing the devastation in her eyes. Seeing the little light returned to her dimmed orbs cast relief within him.

Neither he nor she expected such an encounter with Nicholas Wu. Nevertheless, this planned coincidence by the latter tremendously helped with their goal.

He wouldn’t ever get to escape.
