Chapter 424: Does Poppy Miss Papa Already?

Leslie didn’t expect Calliope to give Mimo to Calix as his travel companion. Fortunately, she could still communicate telepathically with the crochet fox toy.

’Mimo, can you still appear here? Like in Rome before?’

Leslie wanted to talk about the issues regarding Calix’s uncanny dreams with Mimo later, including getting the answers she needed. She contacted the fox toy right after she returned inside the manor.

|I will. Leslie, just call me anytime. I’ll go to you at once!|

’Okay. Please look after Calix for me, Mimo. Tell me if anything happens, en?’

|Roger!|

Right now, Calix was already on the flight. He texted Leslie before the take-off, saying he would be available to communicate through the internet later. She simply told him to focus on his work.

A few of Calix’s subordinates followed along on this business trip. Being on a long flight didn’t mean the man and his team could be idle. They still had work to do before landing.

Leslie still remembered the time Calix immersed himself in his work during their flight to and from Rome a few months ago. He also often received calls from Edward.

"Mama~ Let’s go to the tent."

Calliope cutely asked Leslie after they had breakfast together. Aside from being inside Calix’s home office, the little one also enjoyed spending time in the glamping tent.

No one took the tent down even after days. Uncle Raymond always made sure the place stayed clean.

"Alright. Wanna get some of your storybooks?" Leslie swiftly agreed. She ran her palm on Calliope’s head, earning chuckles from the little dumpling.

"Coloring books too!"

"Hehe, okay~ Let’s go and get your books."

"Yay!"

Leslie and Calliope went to the backyard with a tote bag of children’s books. The former told Aunt Wendy and Mrs. An to stay in the manor instead of following them.

Leslie was relatively free today. She purposely requested a day off from any rehab sessions, intending to spend more time with Calliope on the first day of Calix’s absence.

Thankfully, Ms. Chen and Ms. Yao easily granted it.

Calliope lay on her tummy as she drew on a sketchbook, the coloring pencils scattering nearby. Leslie sat on the small mattress, leaning against the huge pillow behind. She was reading a novel.

Occasionally, the breeze sneaked into the tent. The low and extended canopy of the tree leaves provided a good and cool shade against the blazing summer sun.

Looking up from the sketchbook, Calliope stared at Leslie before a question flowed out of her tiny mouth, "Mama, Papa go away for work, right?"

Putting her book down, Leslie smiled at Calliope. She scooted closer to her daughter, seeing the little one’s face had a hint of sadness.

"Does Poppy miss your papa already?" Leslie lightly tapped the tip of Calliope’s nose, "Yes, Papa is away for work. He’ll be back this Friday."

Calix had already told Leslie that he would try to shorten the trip if possible but, she had no intention to bring it up in front of Calliope. The little one might have her hopes up high.

"Then... Poppy, Mama and Papa can go to the chocolate museum?" asked Calliope, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. She still remembered what her papa promised her a few days ago.

"Hehe, yes," Leslie chuckled. She perfectly saw the hopeful glint in Calliope’s eyes, "Your papa might be a little busy after his return... But, he’ll surely plan this chocolate museum trip."

Leslie knew how much Calix himself anticipated their first family trip. The one during the Dragon Boat Festival wasn’t included because everyone from his family was involved.

"Okay~ Poppy can’t wait ah. Poppy wanna go out with Mama and Papa."

When Calliope still lived at the orphanage, she often fantasized about going on trips with her mother and father whenever she saw familiar scenes on TV or in the storybooks.

She hoped to experience such scenes herself but, she knew she didn’t have parents.

Thus, the little Calliope learned to be contented with the rare trips she had with her friends. She silently buried those dreams in her heart.

But, a miracle came by.

Never once did Calliope expect to be reunited with her parents one day. She thought she only had Granny Li, Grandpa Mo and her young friends in her life.

Her mama and papa loved her dearly, the same feelings she had from watching the warm familial scenes.

"Mama and Papa wanna go out with Poppy too," replied Leslie quietly. She fondly stroked Calliope’s head, luring the little one to chuckle in delight.

Leslie and Calliope stayed in the backyard until noon, just in time for lunch. The former didn’t eat much because she was still full from breakfast. She accompanied the little one filling her hungry tummy.

"Really? Poppy will nap alone?" asked Leslie as she and Calliope went upstairs. The elevator doors were automatically closed behind them.

"Poppy is a big girl ah. Poppy can sleep alone."

Puffing up her small chest, Calliope smacked it as if trying to show she was bigger than her actual size. Her action enticed laughter from Leslie.

"Hehe, okay. But, let Mama tuck you in, okay?"

"Okay~"

Leslie wheeled herself to Calliope’s bedroom. The little one rushed to the washroom first. She learned to brush her teeth before her nap aside from relieving herself.

Leslie plumped Calliope’s pillows before smoothening the mattress. The bedsheet felt soft and cool to the touch. She didn’t forget to turn on the air-conditioning system. The summer heat was uncomfortable.

The little Calliope fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. Leslie covered her daughter with the blanket before leaving the bedroom. She glanced at her wristwatch, finding it was almost a quarter past one.

’Can I call him now?’

Leslie wanted to talk to Mimo but, she hoped to check on Calix first. Once she was alone in the bedroom, she sent a text to the man through the messaging app.

[Leslie: Busy working? Had lunch already?]

Fiddling with the phone, Leslie’s thoughts were filled with Calix. The sudden ringing from the phone pulled her out of her momentary trance.

It was him!

Leslie abruptly accepted the call. She placed the phone next to her right ear, "Hello, Calix..."

"Miss me already, sweetheart?"

Calix’s honeyed tone traveled to Leslie’s heart, drawing her lips into a smile.

"Yes, honey."
