Win My Husband Over to Find My Child
Chapter 38: Boss Xu, Is She Your Secret Love Child?

Chapter 38: Boss Xu, Is She Your Secret Love Child?

CEO Xu’s office was on a corner of the floor. The wide expansive windows allowed one to witness the panoramic view surrounding the area. It went beyond the bustling business districts.

Natural sunlight poured into the office through the window panels, basking its light on every object.

Calix walked to the huge desk sitting in the middle. His deft fingers unbuttoned the dark gray jacket before he hung it on the back of the swivel chair.

Edward followed Calix until he stood opposite the desk, facing his boss. He was waiting for the next order.

At the same time, Leslie quietly made her way to the seating area. Pursing her lips, she slowly sat on a corner of the long couch. Her eyes wandered around the office. She was still so eager to explore this place.

Calix briefly glanced at Leslie. Laughter almost slipped out of his mouth. He could see her eyes overflow with curiosity yet, she behaved well like an obedient student.

"Boss Xu, do you have a new task for me?"

Edward’s voice pulled Calix’s attention away from Leslie. He coughed once, thinking back on his promise to her just now. He needed to make the first move now.

"I want you to find someone for me," declared Calix clearly, "Do it discreetly. This is unrelated to the company."

Edward was not the only one who was intrigued by Calix’s words. Leslie abruptly shifted her focus to the two men. Her eyes slightly widened, silently expressing her anticipation.

Well, Leslie didn’t expect to hear Calix instructing Edward about finding Calliope this soon.

"Who is it?" asked Edward. He was used to this kind of task, "Boss Xu, do you have any information about that person?"

Did someone get on his boss’ bad side? Who was it? An unknown rival?

But, his boss said this matter had no link with the company.

Perhaps, his boss’ newlywedded wife’s former lover? Would a love triangle drama start soon?

Calix tilted his head, not knowing what kind of thoughts Edward was having. Placing both elbows on the armrests, he loosely interlocked his fingers together.

"Her name is Calliope, aged five. She lives in an orphanage somewhere."

"...come again?" Edward blinked, confusion washed over his mind, "Aged five? Are you looking for... a child? Lives in an orphanage?"

What was wrong with his boss?

Why was he looking for a little girl? As young as his niece?

Calix ignored the incredulity expressed on Edward’s face. He continued speaking, "I only know her name and age. You need to check every orphanage in the country. Get their photos and information."

Edward twisted his brows. His brain gears moved rapidly more than usual. Countless assumptions popped into his mind.

Still thinking how weird the order was, Edward asked cautiously, "Boss Xu... is that girl your secret love child or something? Do you only know about her now?"

"...the heck?" Calix almost choked on nothing. Enlarging his eyes, he glared at Edward, "What kind of nonsense is that? My personal life is clean, okay?"

Calix had nothing against illegitimate children. But, Edward’s choice of words frightened him.

If such a scenario were real...

Calix started imagining his grandmother becoming a fire-breathing dragon. She would whip him with her spiky tail because he irresponsibly drove a child to live in an orphanage.

Edward let out a deep sigh, looking like an old man in trouble.

"You’re not promiscuous, I know that. But... who knows?"

"..."

Edward ignored Calix’s deadpan look as he narrated a potential headline.

"’Breaking news! The recently married CEO Xu discovers his hidden love child! Will there be a war between the legitimate Mrs. Xu and the mother of the child?’ Wow~ The media will surely have a field day."

CEO Xu’s marriage had spread among the media. They caught the news late because it only started circling in high society. Journalists called the company a few times, wanting to get an inside scoop.

Edward quickly gave an order to his subordinates. He told them to inform the media that CEO Xu would announce the good news formally soon.

His boss didn’t have the intention to hide his marriage yet, Edward planned to torment the annoying media.

Calix was smiling but, his expression conveyed how annoyed he was with Edward. Through gritted teeth, he declared, "Go do what I ask you to. Get out."

"Yes, sir!"

Edward bowed to Calix before hurriedly leaving the office. Once the young man disappeared behind the door, CEO Xu slumped on the chair, exhaling a loud sigh.

"What kind of statement is that?" Calix abruptly looked at Leslie, suddenly looking a bit anxious, "Leslie, I’m a loyal man ah. I won’t randomly sleep with women. C-cough! Unless she’s my lover."

Leslie laughed awkwardly when CEO Xu gave her a glimpse of his previous love life. She found it funny that Calix tried to prevent any misunderstanding from happening due to Edward’s surprising question.

"I should apologize to you, Calix. Mr. Zhang asked you like that because of my request."

Leslie didn’t care about Calix’s love life. He was a grown-up and attractive man. Surely he had several experiences with women before. Still, hearing his affirmation brought her relief.

Dealing with a promiscuous man would be hard. Leslie was happy that Calix was not someone like that.

"W-well, let me show you around my office."

The flustered CEO Xu jumped to his feet. His action enticed Leslie to laugh. She slowly rose from the couch.

"Your office’s great," Leslie walked away from the seating area. She approached the floor-to-ceiling windows, "People, cars... they look like ants from this distance."

Leslie looked out the expansive windows. The major roads that surrounded Xu International were busy with moving vehicles and people. Their normal sizes shrank to tiny beings.

Calix stood next to Leslie. He put one hand inside the pocket of his long and slender pants. Staring at her, he joked, "In your favorite dramas, does the hero always stand facing the glass wall like this?"

Soft chuckles flowed out Leslie’s lips. She answered cheekily, "Of course! The male lead stands opposite the windows while brooding about the female lead."

Calix scoffed. Shrugging, he replied nonchalantly, "One of my friends is just like the domineering and brooding CEO male lead. Dealing with him is so annoying ah. He and his girlfriend always fight."

Leslie held back from laughing out loud. Even without asking Calix for more details, she knew he was talking about Xander.

"Well, I actually like playful male leads more than the brooding ones."

Before, Leslie thought she wouldn’t mention anything like this in front of Calix. But, this conversation changed her mind.

Hehe, it was not a big deal.

Calix sneered. He glanced at Leslie, "Someone like me?"

"Yes," replied Leslie without missing a beat, "You’re approachable. What if you’re like that friend of yours? I don’t think I can get along with you."

"Hahaha! Yeah, yeah, that’s right!"

Calix guffawed at Leslie’s honest remark. His laughter echoed loudly inside the office. He didn’t know that Edward was still nearby outside.

"Did he laugh by himself?"

The CEO’s office was not completely soundproofed. Certain noises like blaring laughter and scolding could still be heard.

Shaking his head, Edward rushed to his private office. He needed to sort out the plans before he started looking for the young child.
