Chapter 336: The Father and Daughter’s Bonding Time
The few times the strange dreams plagued his sleep... didn’t they happen when he slept with Leslie and Calliope together?
The first time Calix received the uncanny dream was also the first time he slept with his wife and daughter in the same bed.
The next occurrences... also happened when they were together.
’That... can’t be.’
Shivers ghosted down Calix’s spine as the realization dawned on him. Even if he tried to brush them off as coincidences, the truth was undeniable.
’I didn’t get those dreams when I slept alone with Leslie. But, when Poppy was around...’
Did he have those dreams because of his little daughter?
Or rather, because they slept together as a family?
’That’s... absurd.’
Coincidence!
The events were just coincidences!
Calix shook his head, refusing to entertain such thoughts when his eyelids felt so heavy already. He should ponder this issue when his mind was not muddled by drowsiness.
Closing his eyes, Calix forced himself to sleep. He had no choice but to count sheep, hoping to enter the dreamland even before he reached the hundred mark.
Tomorrow was his first day back to work ah! Let him sleep, please!
CEO Xu was fortunate because he gradually fell asleep even before reaching his target. Lying alone in bed, his faint snoring resounded in the quiet bedroom.
The clock continued ticking and time turning. In a few hours, the first ray of sunlight brightened the dark skyline of the city.
As the dew moistened the leaves and flowers, the rising sun sprinkled its lights here and there, slowly chasing the darkness away.
"Hahaha! Papa! So strong!"
A child’s laughter rang in the backyard as she was on her father’s back when the man doing push-ups. The little one lay on her tummy, her short arms encircled his neck.
Calix was still counting. Sweats beaded on his forehead and back, dampening the jersey suit. His pace didn’t slow down even with the additional weight lying on his back.
Calix woke up around five-thirty in the morning. He went to check Leslie first before heading to Calliope’s bedroom. To his pleasant surprise, the little one was already up.
"Poppy, wanna join Papa jogging?"
The energetic little dumpling quickly jumped on the bed, happy with her father’s invitation.
Calix simply slow-jogged with Calliope riding her new pink tricycle beside him. He shortened his usual miles to a quarter, afraid the little munchkin unable to follow.
After jogging, Calix did a couple of other exercises before doing push-ups. Calliope excitedly climbed on his back once he asked whether she wanted to join.
"I’m done!"
Lowering his knees to land on the ground, Calix slowly straightened his upper abdomen while supporting Calliope. His chest heaved up and down, breathless from the activity.
"Poppy, go down. Be careful."
"Okay~"
Calliope slid to the ground, her small feet pressing the grass flat. Laughing, she looked at Calix with admiration twinkling in her round eyes.
"Papa is so strong! Wow! Good job, Papa!"
Calliope excitedly clapped her hands. Her action earned a smile from Calix who changed from kneeling to sitting cross-leg. He started wiping his face and neck with a towel tied at his waist earlier.
"Poppy help~"
Calliope took the towel from Calix. Using both of her hands, she ran the fabric on her father’s face; from his right cheek, up to his forehead, down to his nose then to his left cheek.
Laughter rolled out of the man’s mouth. The little one’s touch tickled him.
"...ah! Papa! Hahaha!"
Calix suddenly hugged Calliope, peppering her small face with little kisses. The dumpling cackled loudly, the echoes of her laughter spreading in the backyard, brightening the early morning.
"Hehe, let’s go and wake Mama up," Calix gave Calliope’s face one last smooch, "Papa needs to get ready now. I’ll go to work today."
Calliope blinked. She stared at Calix as her father carried her up, "Oh~ Papa go to work? Poppy stay with Mama at home?"
"Papa will return this evening, my buttercup," replied Calix with a faint smile.
Sigh... If possible, he wanted to spend more time with his wife and daughter.
The father and daughter left the backyard. The dazzling sunlight shimmered on their backs, basking them under its morning glow. They headed inside through the side door.
"Mama! Good morning~ Poppy and Papa here~"
Calliope’s face beamed as soon as she spotted Leslie watching the morning news in the lounge on the first floor. Her mother was already in her nightgown, sitting in the wheelchair. A light shawl was draped on her shoulders.
"Good morning, Poppy..." Leslie smilingly greeted the little one, "You exercised with Papa, en?"
Leslie woke up half an hour ago. After she washed her face and brushed her teeth, she immediately went downstairs after not finding Calix and Calliope anywhere.
Aunt Wendy told her the man and the child were in the backyard. Calliope tagged along as Calix went on his morning exercise routine.
Leslie initially planned to join Calix and Calliope but, she dropped the idea. It was better to let the father and daughter bond between themselves this early morning.
"Poppy rode her tricycle today," Calix chuckled. Stopping opposite Leslie, he put Calliope down on the floor, "Hehe, I’ll show her photos to you. Oh, did you sleep well?"
"I did. How about you?" Leslie ran her fingers through Calliope’s hair as the giggling little one hugged her lap, "Did... you sleep well?"
Before Leslie fell asleep, she thought about Calix. Once she woke up, the first thing that came to her mind was also him.
Did his sleep get disturbed by another nightmare?
She couldn’t help but wonder whether her wish came true or not.
In a good mood, the grinning Calix nodded twice. His countenance brightened like sunlight shimmered on the morning dews.
"I did. I slept well last night."
Leslie returned his smile, expressing her relief, "That’s good to hear..."
Calix replied nothing, only continuing to smile at Leslie. He still remembered the weird reasoning that popped into his mind before he fell asleep.
They sounded absurd but...
Shouldn’t he try testing them?
