Chapter 314: Folding Dumplings in His Dream
Leslie didn’t let Evelyn’s matter disturb her sleep that night.
Despite worrying about her younger sister-in-law’s future, she believed treading on this issue carefully was a better answer for now. More so when her knowledge was still limited.
Leslie hoped to meet Evelyn first. She also wished to get more details about her second vision.
Ah! If only she got a cheat to know the future! Why did her transmigration not like the common ones in the stories she had read before?
That was fine. She would surely let that trashy man taste immense regrets for fooling her sister-in-law around.
Definitely!
Putting the matter back to her head, Leslie welcomed the next day with a new kind of anticipation.
The makeover of Calliope’s bedroom was completed today!
The process took quite a few hours, starting from when the labor staff arrived. From installing a small flower-shaped chandelier to setting up all the furniture pieces, everything ended in the late afternoon.
"Wow~ Poppy’s new bed!"
Calliope jumped on the brand-new bed placed in the middle of the room, facing the checkerboard wall. She chose the wooden bedframe in the shape of a hut herself. It came with a shelf on the left.
The pastel pink bedsheet complimented Calliope’s new bed perfectly. She wanted to fill the side shelf with toys and storybooks.
"Oho, someone is so excited ah with her new bed," Calix raised his brows, teasing Calliope who had started rolling on the mattress, "So, you won’t sleep with Papa and Mama anymore tonight?"
Calliope froze, looking Calix with funny terror in her eyes. In the next second, she abruptly sat up on the bed.
"No! Can’t Poppy still sleep with Papa and Mama? Please~"
Leaning on one leg, Calix crossed his arms over his chest. A trace of lazy amusement hinting on his countenance as he stared back at the pouty little dumpling.
"Sleep here ah. Don’t you have Mimo to accompany you?"
Calix gestured at the toy Mimo with a tilt of his chin. The crochet fox toy was lying on a spot on the new bed.
Calliope glared at Calix, her pouty lips were in the perfect length to be tied with a ribbon. She quickly looked for support from Leslie.
"Mama, sleep with Poppy, please~ Let Papa sleep alone ah. Humph!"
Chuckles slipped out of Leslie’s mouth. The father and daughter’s banter entertained her. There was no quiet days whenever the two of them were together.
"Should we? Your papa can surely sleep by himself..." Leslie smiled meaningfully as she drifted her eyes from Calliope to Calix, "Or, you can lend Mimo to your papa..."
Leslie swore she heard gasp coming from the toy Mimo. It seemed like the crochet fox was terrified of that thought.
Sure enough, Mimo protested telepathically.
|Leslie, don’t! I wanna sleep with Poppy!|
Mimo received another shock once Calliope replied. The little dumpling grabbed it from the bed, bringing it to her embrace.
"Hurm... Okay, let Papa sleep with Mimo. Poppy will sleep with Mama."
|Nooo! Leslie, stop Poppy!|
"Hahaha!"
More giggles burst from Leslie’s mouth. Neither Calix nor Calliope knew she was actually laughing at Mimo instead of their bantering.
"Hehe, let’s think later tonight ah..." Leslie shook her head, helplessness imbuing in her voice. She tried doing Mimo a favor, "Mimo can’t sleep well if you’re not... with him, Poppy."
"Oh... okay. Sorry, Mimo. Poppy won’t leave you ah. Papa will sleep alone."
Dumbfounded, Calix scoffed. He held back from pinching Calliope’s chubby cheeks. The little dumpling was still glaring at him.
The father and daughter’s banter continued until it was time for dinner. They called for a momentary truce in front of Aunt Wendy’s strawberry sherbet, amusing Leslie once more.
In the end, the family of three and Mimo slept together on Calliope’s new bed. It was smaller than Leslie’s, forcing them to huddle together.
Still, it was a peaceful night of sleep for all except one.
"..."
Stirring awake from his sleep, Calix groggily opened his eyes. The entire room was still dark, save for the fairy lights illuminated the hut-shaped bed. Its golden glow dawned on his countenance as he slowly reclaimed his senses.
’Why... it happened again?’
Calix was in utter disbelief. He didn’t know why he dreamed of the unfamiliar lady again tonight. This was the third time it occurred.
Calix experienced nothing much in his dream this time around. He found himself sitting in the living room, doing something he wasn’t fond of.
Folding dumplings!
Urgh... Out of all things, why must he dream of folding dumplings? His skills were still below the average ah[01].
Calix was not alone. The unfamiliar lady was also with him as she taught him to fold the wrappers. Unfortunately, he didn’t succeed even in his dream, leaving many dumplings with torn skins.
"Hehehe, honey, don’t be discouraged ah! Looks aren’t everything!"
The woman tried to lift up Calix’ spirit as if he was disheartened. Instead of being comforted, he felt more in disbelief.
’What kind of ghost’s haunting me now?’
Sighing out of helplessness, Calix quietly sat up. He threw his gaze to one side, watching Leslie and Calliope still deep in sleep.
The mother and daughter huddled together. Seeing their intimacy softened his smile.
’I don’t know who she is but... I shouldn’t dream of another woman ah! Just why I hadn’t dreamed of Leslie?’
Irritated with himself, Calix carefully slid out of the bed. Despite still being drowsy, he didn’t think he could sleep well anymore tonight.
Instead of disturbing Leslie and Calliope’s slumber, Calix thought it would be better if he went to his room or home office. He hoped to gather some thoughts before dawn break.
Calix adjusted the blanket covering Leslie and Calliope. Then, he ever so quietly stepped out of the room. As he walked down the hallways, he headed to his home office.
’Will I have this kind of dream again?’
As Calix sat alone in the home office, he silently recalled those dreams.
Uncanny and unfamiliar.
But...
Strangely, a small part of his heart found familiarity from those dreams.
