Chapter 293: Why Couldn’t She Remember Him Being Romantic?

"Time for bed! Tidy your drawings and the pencils!"

"Okay~"

Clapping his hands once, Calix told Calliope to pick up the scattered papers and pencils. The little munchkin obediently followed. The clock pointed to nine-thirty, quite late for a young child.

The children at the orphanage went to bed around nine in the evening. Director Li rarely permitted them to stay later than usual. They were taught to wake up around five in the morning.

The eight hours of sleep were more than plentiful for the children.

"Poppy, Mama, Papa go shopping tomorrow🎶"

"Go shopping🎶 Go shopping🎶"

"Buy cute things for Poppy🎶 And go eating🎶"

Calliope was in a great mood thinking of their family shopping trip tomorrow. She randomly made up a song, singing to the merry tune. Her cheery vibe inevitably entertained Calix and Leslie as well.

"Calix... where will we go tomorrow?" asked Leslie, wondering if Calix already had a place in mind. She watched him helping Calliope gather the items, "Within this city?"

Aside from several places nearby, Leslie had yet to visit the entire Silvercrest City. But, she was aware of how big the metropolis was.

Leslie had to be specific when asking the question. Knowing Calix, it wouldn’t be weird for them to hop on his private jet and travel out of the city just to go to a home center.

"Yeah, we’ll go to Chic Chateau," replied Calix while putting the colored pencil box away. Turning around to face Leslie, he explained more, "I’ve dealt with them before."

Chic Chateau was one of the luxury home centers in the country. Its main branch was in Silvercrest City, the place Calix used to frequent before.

His elder brother and sister-in-law also used their service when decorating their marital home a few years ago. They even ordered a customized bed for Amelia from the business.

"It’s near Qindom Plaza[01]. You remember? The one we went to before going to Rome?"

Calix’s question jogged Leslie’s memory.

How could she forget ah?

She got to witness the rare moments of him being a domineering CEO.

Wincing, Leslie was unable to hold back the cringe she endured when CEO Xu told her to buy every garment at Lavender Thread.

"If you don’t want to pick, I can just buy all these clothes for you."

"I’ll tell Mrs. Wei to ring everything up."

Urgh... Why did those words return to her mind?

"Ha! What’re you thinking huh?"

Calix scoffed, quickly catching something wrong from Leslie’s grimaced look. Her gaze on him seemed to be filled with disdain instead of admiration.

"Cringe..." Leslie curled her fingers up. Exhaling a sigh, she complained, "When you threatened me to... buy everything... Were you trying to be a domineering CEO?"

"..."

Narrowing his eyes, Calix deliberately gave Leslie a side-eye, earning laughter from her. He inwardly voiced his dissatisfaction.

Tsk, why couldn’t she remember him being romantic to her ah?

Wouldn’t her senses pick up the signal of him being armorous?

Calix’s look of contempt tickled Leslie’s heart. She could tell he was complaining inside.

Shaking her head in helplessness, Leslie purposely said, "I think CEO Xu will show his... domineering side to his daughter... tomorrow..."

"...cough, I’ll be careful ah."

Calix shifted his gaze elsewhere. For a reason, he couldn’t look into Leslie’s eyes longer than usual. He felt heat swirled in his cheeks before the warmth traveled down his neck and gradually spread to his entire body.

"Done! Poppy is done~"

Calliope’s exclamation caught Leslie and Calix’s attention. The little girl had stacked everything neatly on the table. Standing on her short legs, she smiled boastfully at the husband and wife.

"Good job, Poppy..."

Leslie chuckled, amused to see that particular look on Calliope’s face. She knew her daughter was eager to her compliments.

"Hehehe~ Thank you, Mama~"

"Job well done. Let’s go and brush your teeth, Poppy," Calix also rose to his feet, gesturing to the ensuite washroom, "Your toothpaste and toothbrush are in there. Get your towel too."

"Okay~"

Calliope ran to where her pink towel was hung. She used it after showering earlier. Deng deng deng, she headed to the washroom, followed by Calix from behind.

Leslie watched Calix and Calliope disappear into the washroom. Soon, she heard the man telling the child to step on the stool in front of the sink countertop. He didn’t close the door.

’He should already get used to caring for Mia, right?’

Calix might not have had a child until he met Calliope but, he had Amelia. Even though the uncle and niece often exchanged banter, they had a close relationship.

Within a few minutes, Calix stepped out of the washroom. He still let the main door of the washroom open. Leslie raised her brows, silently asking where Calliope was.

"She’s using the toilet," Calix replied softly. He kept looking into the washroom, appearing worried.

Leslie nodded, understanding Calix was giving some privacy to Calliope. Despite still being young, she was at an appropriate age to learn decency lessons.

Not showing her bare body to people easily including her parents unless there were some circumstances.

No letting people touch her body, especially her private parts.

Leslie had already taught Calliope about that in their previous life including some other lessons.

The ensuite washroom of Leslie’s bedroom was huge. The place was divided into a sink, bathtub, shower and toilet areas. The shower and toilet had separate cubicles but, only the latter had opaque panels and door.

Even if anyone else accompanied Calliope just outside the toilet, they couldn’t see her at all. Still, Calix stepped out of the washroom altogether, supervising Calliope from afar.

"She’ll be fine... She can shower and be in the... toilet alone well..." said Leslie, trying to comfort the concerned new father.

The children at the orphanage were taught potty training earlier than ordinary children. It was another way to instill independence into them. Calliope was not excluded from this practice.

Smiling in helplessness, Calix responded, "I know. I just can’t help but worry."

Leslie said nothing as a thought crossed her mind.

He would undoubtedly be the best father for Calliope.
