Chapter 289: Desiring Her as a Lover
Chapter 289: Desiring Her as a Lover
After spending some time in the backyard, Calix and Leslie brought Calliope back inside the manor. The man didn’t forget to snap some photos of the little girl, intending to be sent to Director Li soon.
"Wanna see some children’s bedroom examples after dinner?" asked Calix, holding back from sounding so eager, "You might get some ideas from there, Poppy."
"Okay~ Poppy really can pick the color and anything?"
"Hehe, yes..." Leslie replied, fondly smiling at Calliope, "We can’t wait to see... what kind of room you want..."
"Poppy will choose the best!"
Calliope’s determination was met with encouragement from Calix and Leslie.
As they waited for the home elevator to reach the upper floor, Calix told Calliope he would cook for dinner tonight. His words brightened her small face.
"Papa wanna cook? Wow~"
Calix and Leslie chuckled because of how easily Calliope got amused by many simple things. The little one was delighted to hear her papa would cook for their family dinner tonight.
"Do you have anything you wanna eat?" asked Calix while pushing Leslie’s wheelchair out of the home elevator, "If you don’t want rice, you can ask for anything else too."
Leslie nodded, sharing the same opinion as Calix. She glanced at Calliope walking by her side, "Your papa is a great cook... You’ll surely love his cooking..."
Calliope was not a picky eater in their previous life. Fortunately, she remained the same even in this world. Director Li also already told Calix and Leslie about the child’s likes and dislikes before.
Leslie only had one thought after she listened to Director Li. Her Calliope and Charlene’s Calliope shared almost similar tastes in many things.
"Poppy will think first~ Hurm..."
Calix’s words and Leslie’s reassurance piqued Calliope’s interest. She gripped her chin, seemingly to think hard and carefully over the subject of what kind of food she wanted for dinner.
’Rice tastes good ah, but always eats it already.’
’Fried chicken is yummy.’
’Strawberry pancakes? Ah, that for breakfast ah!’
Calix and Leslie held back from laughing at how Calliope looked. Her small forehead creased as she was still deep in thought. The little girl said nothing until they almost reached Leslie’s bedroom.
"Spaghetti? Can Poppy eat that? With tomato sauce and chicken!"
"Bolognese, it is," Calix nodded, agreeing with Calliope. Raising his brows, he grinned, "With some chicken."
"Ha? What’s that? Bolo-what?"
Calliope’s question earned some chuckles from Leslie and Calix.
"Bolognese, kinda like a tomato meat sauce," Calix tried to explain as simply as he could to the young Calliope, "Papa will make that sauce for the spaghetti, okay? With some chicken bites?"
"Okay~ Thank you, Papa."
The little one almost drooled as she imagined how tasty the pasta could be. Happily humming to a melody, she patted her round tummy, anticipating dinner time soon.
"I’ll go and cook first. Poppy, have a shower if you want, en?"
"Okay, Papa~"
Calix left Leslie and Calliope under Mrs. Bai’s care as soon as they reached the bedroom. The latter was one of the private nurses who replaced Mrs. An and Mrs. Su during their short vacation time.
’What else I should make? Garlic bread sounds good too. Can pair with the sauce.’
Rushing to the kitchen, Calix intended to whip up some garlic bread for dinner alongside the pasta. Both of them worked well with the delicious bolognese sauce.
’I’ll just make it quick.’
Dinner should be served in two hours. Calix didn’t intend to slow-cook the sauce like he usually did. Calliope and Leslie might be starving by then.
While working in the kitchen, Calix thought of throwing a welcome party for Calliope. He had brought the matter up to Leslie once before. She easily agreed with his suggestion, saying it was good to have one.
Calix intended to make the party small, only inviting Aunt Wendy, Uncle Raymond and Edward. Calliope had warmed up to them, making them the best guests so far.
After Calliope got to know his side of the family, Calix planned to throw another one. Most probably, his grandmother and his parents would insist on it.
’I wonder when she’ll be ready.’
Calliope’s easy-going nature made Calix think she could be introduced to his family soon. But, showing her some photos and telling her stories would be a better choice for now.
So far, only his grandmother and parents knew about Calliope. His siblings and sister-in-law were still kept in the dark so far including his niece. He intended to tell them soon.
"Poppy wanna sleep with Mama and Papa. Together!"
Calliope’s words from earlier abruptly replayed in Calix’s mind, pausing him from stirring the meat sauce in the cast-iron pot. He stared blankly at the red sauce.
’Haha... Tonight will be better ah. Poppy will sleep between us.’
Wincing Calix unconsciously recalled his embarrassment from sharing the same bed with Leslie last night. He didn’t know when he really fell asleep.
The only thing Calix remembered was chanting the mantras to block out the little devil whispering in his ears.
’We got married because of my planning. Will she... ask for a divorce soon?’
Knowing Leslie, Calix was aware she might choose to stay in this marriage because of Calliope, their child. But, he didn’t want that to be the only reason linking them together as a husband and wife.
He loved her.
Would she love him back?
Calix didn’t know why it was so easy for him to fall for Leslie. From simply enjoying their companionship, his feelings changed from appreciating her as a friend to desiring her as a lover.
Instead of tying her to him because of their child, Calix wished for something more with Leslie. He also couldn’t bear the thought of her being with another man no matter how selfish it sounded.
’Can I win her heart?’
Pursing his lips, Calix turned off the stove while letting the sauce rest in the pot. He remained unmoving from the spot as more thoughts flowed into his mind.
’I will only know if I try.’
Yes. That was it.
Whether he succeeded or not, he had to try it no matter what. Anything wouldn’t happen without him taking the first essential step.
