Chapter 277: Keep His Composure or Be a Blushing Mess
Pretending nothing concerned them, Calix and Leslie agreed with Director Li’s suggestion. Mrs. An and Mrs. Su would stay at the orphanage as well, depending on their schedule.
"I’ll tell Logan to make arrangements," Calix spoke without looking much at Leslie. His tone had a hint of a fluster, "We might directly head to the airport from here tomorrow morning."
"Okay... I’ll stay with Poppy..." replied Leslie, pointing out nothing about the look of nervousness on Calix’s countenance.
Really, did this man get all flustered just by sharing a room? It was not their first time together ah.
Leslie recalled the times she and Calix had to share a bedroom back in the Xu family’s ancestral home. They even lay on the same bed a few times.
Those events happened because he wouldn’t let her sleep at random places despite being an invisible ghost to other people. At the same time, she also didn’t have the heart to let him sleep on the couch.
But...
’Oh, perhaps he didn’t have feelings for me yet at those times.’
That sounded like a plausible reason. The bed in the ancestral home also a few times bigger than the one in the orphanage’s guest room.
Leslie, Calliope and Director Li watched Calix moving away from the front yard. He went looking for Logan. He quickened his pace, vanishing before their eyes in no time.
"Why Papa walk so fast ah?" Calliope raised her brows, expressing her curiosity on the small thing, "Because his legs are long?"
Calliope’s last question earned laughter from Leslie and Director Li. The little girl shifted her eyes from Calix’s disappearing figure to her own short limbs.
"Poppy wanna have long legs too."
Leslie and Director Li laughed louder. Calliope’s curious look changed to a distressed one as if she was worried about the growth of her legs.
"Don’t worry ah, Poppy," Director Li extended a hand, stroking Calliope’s small head. She said reassuringly, "Your father and mother are tall. You’ll be tall like them too."
"Ohhh? Really? Mama, really?"
With a snap of her head, Calliope abruptly looked at Leslie with a pair of sparkling eyes. She hugged the toy Mimo tightly, flashing her brightest grin.
"Hehehe, yes, you can be tall..." Leslie chuckled, amused by the dazzling look of anticipation in Calliope’s eyes, "But, you still need to drink... lots of milk, okay? Play a lot will help... too..."
Calix was taller than most men while Leslie—Charlene’s body—was slightly above the average height for women. There was a high chance for Calliope to grow up taller.
"Poppy will drink milk lots lots! Poppy will play lots lots too!"
Puffing her chest out, Calliope firmly made the vow. Her mind had started imagining being tall enough to reach Calix’s and Leslie’s heads, to pat her parents’ heads as they did to her.
"Let’s head back inside," Director Li walked to the back of Leslie’s wheelchair, "The party should start soon. Their preparations are gonna complete soon."
"Yeah, let’s go..." Leslie nodded, thanking Director Li with a smile. She told Calliope, "Poppy, wanna follow Mama and Director Li? Or you... wanna wait for your papa?"
Leslie vaguely heard Calix’s voice coming from one side of the yard, talking to Logan. It seemed like the bodyguard was spending his time there.
Well, Leslie didn’t mind much about sharing the room and the small bed with Calix. Instead of being reluctant, she actually looked forward to it.
Leslie couldn’t help but wonder if CEO Xu could keep his composure or be a blushing mess. She had witnessed him in that state a few times already.
Hehe, CEO Xu can be quite adorable too. Would he be mad if she said that?
"Follow Mama," replied Calliope after taking a short time to think. She glanced to where Calix disappeared before once again staring at Leslie, "Waiting for Papa is no fun. Boring~"
Amused, Leslie let out some chuckles, "Hehe, let’s go now... Don’t you want to change... into the dress?"
Calix picked an outfit for Calliope’s party today. He chose a light pink sleeveless dress, perfect to be worn by the little one during her farewell party.
The layered tulle skirt fell just below Calliope’s knees. She especially loved the three-roses corsage belt, also in the color pink.
"Yes! The princess dress! Mama, let’s go!"
"Hehe, come..."
Calliope hurriedly followed Leslie and Director Li back inside the orphanage. Excitement bubbled up in her tiny heart as she imagined the party prepared by her friends and the staff.
Food! Lots of food and lots of fun times!
"Yeah, just bring these to me later. Tell everyone to get ready to leave tomorrow."
Without realizing his wife and daughter had left, Calix continued his talk with Logan. He instructed the bodyguard to carry out some orders, one of them was about bringing some clothes and other items for his and Leslie’s stay tonight.
"I’ll contact the villa. I’ll set up for more people to guard this area tonight, how about that, Second Young Master?"
Logan was a bit surprised to learn Calix and Leslie would stay one night in the orphanage, somewhere he wouldn’t ever imagine his boss and madam to be. But, that was before knowing about the little miss’ existence.
Because the master and the madam’s newly found daughter wished to spend more time with her friends before leaving this place tomorrow, they agreed to sleep here tonight.
"Yeah, do that. As always, keep quiet about my daughter."
"Yes, boss!"
Calix immediately agreed despite knowing this area was generally safe. It was better to be vigilant considering what they were trying to do – bringing Calliope home after being abandoned here by the Li family.
Turning on his heels, Calix left Logan to make the necessary phone calls. He saw no one at the front porch where Leslie, Calliope and Director Li were before.
’Tonight... should I sleep on the floor?’
Knowing how Leslie was, she would insist he use the same bed. She had done so when he told her about using the couch during their stay at the ancestral home.
’Well... I can say the bed is small ah. She won’t be comfortable if I lie on it too.’
Haha... more like he would be the uncomfortable one. He would rather be a stone now.
Calix grimaced inwardly, berating himself for acting like a high school boy with a crush.
If only he knew she was already aware of his feelings for her.
