Chapter 276: Won’t Let Them Off the Hook Easily

Mrs. Fu arrived at Froswtich Town at a quarter to ten. She brought along one of her trusted aids. Logan and another bodyguard went to pick them up from the airport before directly bringing the ladies to the orphanage.

At the same time, the orphanage staff and the children were busy preparing for Calliope’s farewell party. They politely rejected Calix’s offer to get a party service.

They wanted to decorate the dining room themselves. As for the food, Mr. Mori and his team would cook various kinds of dishes.

Understanding their intention to make this party memorable for Calliope, Calix and Leslie let them be. They just supplemented more funds for them.

Director Li brought Calix, Leslie, Calliope, Mrs. Fu and her aid to her office. All of them sat together discussing the little girl.

Mrs. Fu wasted no time as she immediately started the process of discharging Calliope formally from the orphanage including tightening up any possible loopholes. This was important to avoid anyone from trying to stake claims on her.

For example, Old Madam Li who was responsible ordering for her people to discard Calliope away right after her birth.

"Ah, why cover Poppy’s ears?"

Confused, Calliope asked Calix who suddenly placed his broad palms over her little ears. His actions earned dubious looks from Leslie and Director Li while Mrs. Fu and her aide remained calm.

"Can we charge that woman with anything?" asked Calix quietly after gesturing at Calliope to stay put for a moment, "How about attempted murder?"

Leslie and Director Li were stunned by Calix’s questions. He deliberately lowered his voice further when he voiced the last inquiry. The composed Mrs. Fu calmly responded to the man.

"We can if you want to, CEO Xu," Mrs. Fu’s eyes glinted mysteriously. She continued speaking as if it was a simple topic to be talked about, "Old Madam Xu and the chairman refuse to let them off the hook easily, either."

Calix snickered, understanding that his grandmother and father had already brought up this issue to Mrs. Fu. Perhaps, even with the entire legal team of their family.

"Alright. We’ll deal with it later."

"Yes."

On the day Calix and Leslie went to Frostwich Town, Old Madam Xu called Mrs. Fu and Mr. Ding—her father and superior—to the Xu family’s ancestral home. Their topic was about Calliope.

Old Madam Xu, Andrian and Harper expressed their desire to see Old Madam Li and the others who were involved be punished for their heinous deed. Because they were dealing with another prominent family, they needed to plan their steps carefully.

The most significant thing was Leslie’s opinion on this matter. She was the most affected party as she had to endure months and years of suffering under Old Madam Li’s abuse.

’Wow... what will happen to them?’

Leslie hadn’t talked much about punishing the Li family to Calix yet because their primary focus was to bring Calliope home with them. Thus, she didn’t expect Old Madam Xu and Calix’s parents had start preparing for the possible plans and outcomes.

’I don’t care about other people. Only Irene and Mrs. Wang.’

Leslie had dropped the idea of forgiving Rowan and Bianca on Charlene’s behalf. Even though the latter said she had made peace with her past, Leslie couldn’t.

’The little changes they do now can’t even make up for Charlene’s suffering! No matter what’s their excuse!’

Pursing her lips, amber glowering in Leslie’s eyes. She lowered her gaze, trying not to scare Calliope if the little one saw her being angry.

’No one cared for her... only Mrs. Wang...’

Old Madam Li might craft countless stories to mislead Rowan and Bianca but, Leslie wouldn’t excuse their behavior. They already knew how deceptive the old woman could be yet, they still blindly believed and obeyed her.

Inwardly sighing, Leslie told herself not to let her emotions run rampant right now. Calliope’s farewell party would be held soon in the afternoon.

’She’ll surely enjoy the party.’

Leslie shifted her eyes to Calliope. Her lips were drawn into a smile as soon as she saw the look of happiness on her daughter’s countenance.

In a few more hours, Mrs. Fu and her aide finished concluding everything.

Leslie was amazed by the ladies’ efficiency. She didn’t know much about such a process but, the way the attorneys handled it smoothly made her think of how capable they were.

"The little miss will be added to the family registry as soon as tomorrow," Mrs. Fu moved her gaze from the file in her hands to Calix and Leslie. She smiled reassuringly to the spouses, "We’ll keep her existence in the Xu family quiet for now."

Only the selected people knew about Calliope being Calix and Leslie’s biological daughter but, they didn’t know the truth between the man and the lady’s relationship. They were simply told the version Calix and Leslie cooked up with Old Madam Xu[01].

Mrs. Fu and her aide didn’t stay long after they completed the task. Calix suggested they join the party but, the ladies had to decline. They had to travel out of the country tonight for another job.

"Papa, Mama, Poppy wanna ask ah."

Calliope’s voice pulled Calix and Leslie’s attention. They had just sent Mrs. Fu and her aide off at the yard. Director Li was still with them, standing together at the roof-covered porch.

"En? What is it, my sweet buttercup?" Calix raised his brows, wondering what kind of question Calliope had in mind.

Leslie and Director Li also moved their focus to Calliope. The child was standing in between Calix and Leslie’s wheelchair.

"Can Poppy sleep here again tonight?" Calliope blinked, smiling sheepishly at Calix and Leslie, "Papa and Mama too."

"Oh, you want your parents to stay the night? You want to sleep with your friends?"

"Yup! Yup! Sleep together!"

Director Li chuckled, thinking how reluctant Calliope was to leave despite being happy to follow her parents.

"If you want, you can use the guest room," Director Li told Calix and Leslie, "But, the washroom is outside. Mrs. Xu might have some difficulty to use it later."

Calix and Leslie blinked, stunned by Director Li’s suggestion instead of Calliope’s request.

The guest room?

The one with only one bed?
