Chapter 241: Can You Bankrupt Them Overnight?

Calix and Leslie returned to the former’s bedroom after having tea with Old Madam Xu. Due to the change in plans, none of them were in a rush to return to the Graceville Manor.

"Your legs. Do they feel better? You almost fell ah."

"Not hurt much..."

Calix supported Leslie to stand up from the wheelchair, heading to the couch. Once they sat down, they wasted no time in talking about the matter at hand.

"Grandma’s suggestion is fine... Calix, what do you think?"

Leslie’s inquiry was replied to by another question from Calix. Hesitancy laced in his tone as he expressed his worry.

"Dad will be glad to step in to help us. But, are you alright with this arrangement, Leslie?"

Calix was more than happy to pass his work baton to Andrian if he could fully focus on Calliope’s matter. Yet, he wouldn’t go through with the plan if Leslie didn’t agree to it.

By asking for his father’s assistance, they needed to be open about everything. She was the most affected party in this years-long issue. He refused to go against her wishes.

Leslie’s answer reminded Calix how sensible and considerate she could be.

"I’m fine, Calix... We’re on the same page... I don’t mind telling your parents... about what happened if it means... we can bring Calliope... to live with us sooner..."

"Then, let’s do it," Calix curled his lips into a smile, sensing a gush of warmth flooding in his heart, "We’ll get Dad to help."

After achieving the same decision, Calix and Leslie dived deeper into their discussion. They talked about letting Andrian and Harper know as soon as possible and the rearrangement of their plans.

Callix needed to handle a few matters before Andrian took over. He didn’t want people to think something bad happened to him following his absence from the company.

Having rumors implying he was gravely ill were the last thing he wanted to hear. The shareholders would be in a frenzy, the staff would gossip and the media would have a field day.

"Dad and Mom won’t tell Big Brother and Eve. Grandma will do that too," Calix reassured Leslie following their talk, "I’ll make sure none of this reaches the Li family’s ears."

Nodding, Leslie understood Calix was simply being extra cautious. They couldn’t hide Calliope’s existence forever but, settling their daughter in comfortably was their topmost priority.

Leslie didn’t mind Vernon, his family and Evelyn knowing about Calliope soon but, not the Li family including Rowan and Bianca.

"Calix, I don’t want them to... be scot-free. What they did before... they have to face the consequences... I don’t want them... brush everything under the rug... and try to appease you once... they learn you’re Calliope’s father..."

Leslie’s voice trembled with suppressed anger. Her sharpened eyes reddened slightly, expressing her inner turmoil whenever she thought of how the Li family had wronged Charlene.

Old Madam Li let baseless assumptions run rampant in her head. Following her blind hatred toward Charlene, she yielded her power and influence to exile her own granddaughter before further mistreating the latter.

Leslie believed Old Madam Li wouldn’t ever imagine Calix—a powerful young man she desired to be Glady’s husband—was the father of the child. Without saying, she would try everything to avoid him learning of her atrocious deeds done on Charlene.

Calix thinned his lips in displeasure. Sensing the anguish in Leslie’s voice, he inwardly cursed the Li family.

"They’re greedy so, they’ll try," Calix put a hand across Leslie’s back, gently grasping one of her shoulders, "But, they won’t ever succeed. I’ll pick up the overdue debts from them."

Calix’s brain was in full gear.

Knowing how shallow and vain Old Madam Li was, attacking the Li family’s prestige was the best bet. At the same time, letting them experience the taste of losing money would give them a double blow.

Hurm, how about acquiring one of their high-sale businesses?

Meddling with their capital chain sounded good too.

Oh! To see that wicked old woman’s face fell into despair! How exhilarating would it be?

"We’ll handle them after we’re done with Calliope’s business," Calix rubbed his thumb, circling on Leslie’s shoulder, "Let them be happy for a moment longer before everything crashes down."

Blinking, Leslie stared at Calix. She couldn’t help but think how domineering he sounded when he talked like that.

"Hehe... Seems like you can’t wait... to play with them..."

Leslie’s jest earned laughter from Calix. Raising his brows, he cheekily replied, "Aren’t you excited for that too, Mrs. Xu? Your husband is doing his duty of defending you ah."

Snickering, Calix felt as if horns were growing from his head. He didn’t mind messing with the Li family. Instead of landing them a direct blow, he planned to let them suffer for a long time.

Leslie shook her head, laughing along with Calix. She could tell his cunning mind was already thinking of how to bring the Li family to their downfall.

"Mr. Xu, can you bankrupt them... overnight? By just... making a phone call?" asked Leslie playfully. She was reminded of the plots she had seen and read in her favorite romance stories.

Usually, it happened when wealthy second or third-generation cannon fodders crossed a certain boundary when antagonizing the female lead. The enraged male lead sought justice by throwing the cannon fodder’s family company out of business overnight.

Calix made a face, looking at Leslie in disbelief and disdain.

Tsk tsk, was this another one of her favorite romance stories’ plots?

"Seriously? Do you think anyone alive can do that? Bankrupting someone with just a phone call? Leslie, don’t let your mind be corrupted by those soap operas ah."

Cackling, Leslie shook her head in helplessness. Calix’s words continued tickling her heart.

"Hahaha... who knows? Aren’t you... like one of those powerful young CEOs?" Leslie covered her mouth, her eyes getting teary due to her laughter, "How about your friend? Can Xander... do that?"

Xander should be an omnipotent male lead. The novel fans raved about his devilishly handsome looks, broodiness and possessiveness for Violet.

Leslie had read parts when he ruined the lives of some of Violent’s enemies. But, she hadn’t stumbled into anything involving him forcing those cannon fodders bankrupt overnight.

"I bet he’s contracting a devil if he can do that," Calix shrugged. Raising one hand, he poked Leslie’s face, "Instead of thinking of that, shouldn’t you rest, Mrs. Xu?"

"I had rested before ah..." Leslie complained. She playfully smacked Calix’s hand from treating her face like a ball, "When can we talk to... your mom and dad? Won’t they... get home soon?"

Now that Old Madam Xu suggested that plan to both of them, Leslie was reluctant to delay even a minute. If possible, she wanted Calix to explain their plan to Andrian and Harper by today.

Seeing that Leslie had returned to the topic, Calix asked again, "Are you sure about involving my parents now? We can think of other solutions if you’re unwilling."

Calix didn’t doubt Leslie’s intention. But, he also refused to make her feel forced to make this kind of decision.

The image of Leslie crying her heart out was still raw in Calix’s mind. Replaying the moment cracked his heart.

Calix didn’t know the concern in his voice pricked into Leslie’s own heart. Aside from genuinely worrying about her, guilt also still consuming him.

"Let’s do this..." Leslie curled up her lips, her eyes glinting with resolve, "Your parents can be trusted... I know that, Calix."

Unlike Rowan and Bianca who had disappointed Charlene during her time of need.
