Chapter 232: This Revenge Was Long Overdue

Chapter 232: This Revenge Was Long Overdue

"Like... seriously? Gerard... did that? That guy?"

Leslie continued staring at Mimo, disbelief glinting in her eyes. Her mind replayed its words, reminding her of her encounter with Gerard around two months ago.

The man looked so unsightly as he ran away in fright, claiming he was haunted by the deceased Old Master Xu’s ghost.

"I know that... he’s a cannon fodder for this... story but, how could... he do something like... that? Wasn’t he afraid... of Calix or others... finding out about it?"

Leslie admitted that cannon fodders were typically used to enhance the main characters’ halos, showing the latter’s credibility compared to the weaklings. This was a common setting in a story.

Still, Leslie couldn’t help but wonder how could Gerard be so foolish.

Frowning, Leslie let out a sigh as a thought crossed her mind.

’He wanted to topple Calix. He thought Calix was lying about Calliope.’

Well, it was plausible for Gerard to take such actions. He had been envying Calix for decades. That kind of man wouldn’t waste any chance of getting any blackmail materials against CEO Xu.

Leslie, it’s not something shocking ah. You’ve met delusional and dumb people in your previous life. That guy is just one of them.

"..."

Haha... how stupid Gerard was to have a crochet fox toy condemning him like that?

"Okay, okay... I think he’ll try to do it... even in this timeline... I’ll warn Calix about it..."

Leslie was aware of how the plot progressions underwent changes because of her transmigration. But, she was certain some events would or might still happen.

Gerard doubted Calix’s claim over Calliope’s paternity because the man was not involved with Charlene six years ago. The only thing that linked them was that uncanny night.

Knowing Calix, Leslie believed he would pay no attention to any rumors. But, it didn’t mean he would stay still.

Calix was protective over the ones he held dear. If outsiders—including family and friends—dared to mock Calliope, they had to brace themselves to face CEO Xu’s rage.

But...

Hehe, Leslie had a hunch that Old Madam Xu would unleash her wrath first instead of Calix. The matriarch might appear frail but, she was not someone to be messed with.

"Oh... won’t I recall key events... of future Chapters[01]? Mimo, you told me... about it before..."

Suddenly recalling the first day of her transmigration, Leslie threw that inquiry to Mimo. She gently poked its pointy black nose.

Oh... haha... I don’t know about that too...

Mimo scooted away from Leslie, jumping toward the rose bouquet lamp. It clearly was trying to evade the subject.

Leslie rolled her eyes, thinking how stupid she was to believe that. She didn’t know why she was offered to transmigrate here but, how could the rules be so unreliable?

"I’ll leave it be... for now..." Leslie averted her eyes from Mimo, looking back at the piles of diaries on her lap and the bed, "We need to focus on... Poppy living with us... Then, I’ll try to... contact Mrs. Wang..."

Charlene kept in touch with Mrs. Wang even after years of leaving the holiday home. They occasionally met when the older woman came to Silvercrest City to visit her son. The former couldn’t travel much due to the previous restrictions.

’Mrs. Wang knows about Charlene’s plan to escape.’

Through the memories, Leslie learned how Charlene subtly talked about her dreams with Mrs. Wang. The middle-aged woman always reassured her there was light at the end of her dark tunnel.

’I need to contact Mrs. Wang sometime.’

Mrs. Wang might have heard of Charlene being in a coma. Leslie wished to reach out to the older woman, to alleviate any of her worries regarding Charlene’s condition.

Leslie quietly calculated the possible and future next steps.

Aside from bringing Calliope to live with her and Calix, they also needed to talk to both families about the child’s presence. Then, she would find ways to contact Mrs. Wang.

And...

Lifting her eyes from the diaries on her lap, Leslie threw her gaze to Mimo. The crochet fox toy was curling on top of the rose bouquet lamp. Her voice quietly filled the air.

"Mimo... I want the Li family... to receive consequences... for what they did to... Charlene before..."

Charlene left no instructions about avenging her. But, Leslie couldn’t bear letting this gravely unfair matter slide.

No matter where Charlene and her Calliope were, Leslie sincerely wished for their happiness. They deserved to live a carefree and blissful life after years of separation.

Hopefully, Charlene and her Calliope would meet people who genuinely cared for them despite not having blood ties.

This revenge was already long overdue.

"I think Calix will talk... about Poppy again... soon..." Leslie gathered the diaries, planning to keep them safe inside the drawer, "I hope Poppy can live... with us starting... next month..."

In two days, the end of May was closely approaching. The Dragon Boat Festival was scheduled in late June this year.

As one of Calliope’s favorite festivities, Leslie wished to spend a memorable time with her. She believed Calix also hoped for the same.

Let’s hope for it! I wanna play with Poppy ah!

Mimo abruptly moved, standing on top of the rose bouquet lamp while raising its upper limbs. Amused by its antics, Leslie let out a chuckle.

"It will happen, Mimo... it will soon..."

Leslie had no doubts over Calix’s words. Time and again, the man proved how reliable he was. His understanding and compassion made it easier for her to trust him.

"Ah, I’m sleepy..." Leslie yawned, feeling her drowsiness returning, "I’ll nap... then wake up again..."

Almost two hours had passed from the time Leslie was awakened by those dreams. Guessing how long today would be, it was better if she continued recharging herself.

Sleep, Leslie, sleep. Good night.

"Hehe, it’s early... morning already..."

Slowly lying on the bed, Leslie closed her eyes. It didn’t take her long to return to her slumberland. Her heart felt a lot more at ease compared to before.
