Chapter 204: You Two Will Make Great Parents

Calix arrived home at half-past four, looking a bit tired. He instructed Mrs. Su to help Leslie to get ready. While he took a quick nap, the private nurse began assisting the young lady.

Mrs. Su and Mrs. An acknowledged that they were not merely taking care of Leslie’s health and ensuring her well-being. They were also tasked with this kind of matter – preparing her for an occasion.

"Which dress is your pick, Mrs. Xu?" asked Mrs. Su as Leslie looked at the clothes hung inside the wardrobe, "Surely, something comfortable and decent for a family dinner."

"Hehe, which one should I... pick?" Leslie scanned the area where dresses were hung by Aunt Wendy, "Mrs. Su, please take the mint green dress. The one with lilac flowers."

"That one is lovely. Well, all of your outfits are pretty. Want to pair it with a light-colored jacket?"

"Thank you... That sounds good..."

The calf-length dress had tiny lilac flower prints on the skirt hem. They also lined vertically on the bodice. Leslie planned to complement the dress with a cream jacket.

"Okay. Time for you to have a bath. Isn’t this your first time appearing in front of your family and in-laws? We need to make you look perfect. Don’t worry! Leave your makeup and hairdo to me."

Mrs. Su clapped her hands once, lips curling up in excitement. Her words and actions earned laughter from Leslie. The echo of her giggles resonated in the en-suite wardrobe.

"Mrs. Su, is being a stylist your... hidden dream?" asked Leslie jokingly. The private nurse’s enthusiasm amused her, "Hehe, you did my... makeup for my hospital... checkup visits too..."

"Well, you can say that I learned a lot from my teen daughter," admitted Mrs. Su, laughing along with Leslie, "She’s so into makeup and any beauty stuff. Being a makeup artist is her side gig."

Leslie smilingly listened to Mrs. Su’s story about her teenage daughter. Apparently, the latter was in her second year of high school. She had just started as a makeup artist last year.

"Mrs. Su, aren’t you afraid about... her study?" Leslie asked earnestly, wondering about Mrs. Su’s support toward her daughter’s passion, "After all, she’s still in... high school..."

Leslie met various kinds of parents and guardians during the years she worked as a teacher in her previous life.

Some of them made her question their intelligence, mostly the lack of it. While the others encouraged her to learn more about parenting.

The first party was the example of parents pushing their children to only excel in academics.

More often than not, they blocked their young children from exploring other dreams. They also didn’t care whether their offspring grew to be respectful human beings or not.

Seeing them reminded Leslie of her biological parents. She never wanted to turn into them – selfish and vain parents who thought less of other family’s children.

Mrs. Su chuckled, recalling her conversation with her daughter before. Her countenance mellowed at the thought of her beloved child.

"Well, which parents don’t worry about that? My husband and I set up some rules. She needs to maintain her grades, can’t skip school and only accept gigs on the weekend and during school breaks."

Mrs. Su and her husband were actually worried in the beginning. Unsure how they should handle this situation, the spouses sought advice from close family and relatives.

Some of them pushed the spouses to be stricter with their daughter. The others advised them to allow the teenager to do what she wanted as long as her studies were not compromised.

"Sometimes, what is good for another family won’t work the same way for yours. Mrs. Xu, parents also make mistakes, that’s undeniable. But, it’s important how we tackle the issue next."

Mrs. Su didn’t think of herself as a perfect parent. Her husband also admitted the same. Following the ever-changing times, they shouldn’t completely rely on their parents’ methods of raising children.

Caught in a momentary trance, Leslie couldn’t help but picture Calliope in her teenage years. The period was still far away yet, she promised herself not to stop learning about parenting.

"Mrs. Xu, I’m sure you and Mr. Xu will be great parents."

"...ha?"

Perplexed by Mrs. Su’s remark, Leslie’s jaw dropped. She blankly stared at the private nurse who was now laughing in glee.

"I’m sorry if I sound busybody but, I like to see how you and Mr. Xu interact as a couple. Both of you possess patience and consideration. To me, those are good qualities for future parents."

Mrs. Su was being earnest. She used to talk about it with Mrs. An, including Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond. The spouses were eagerly waiting for a child to be born between the Xu husband and wife.

But, it might be a faraway dream considering Mrs. Xu’s state of health. All four of them believed that Mr. Xu wouldn’t force his fragile and recovering wife to bear him a child in the near future.

Well, the newlyweds were still young. They had plenty of time for that. Perhaps, they wished to spend more lovely time in their two-person world before thinking of having a child.

Blinking her eyes rapidly, Leslie didn’t foresee hearing that from Mrs. Su. Hollow laughter escaped her lips as she was unable to come up with a proper response.

"Oh, that... haha... I’m flattered to hear that..."

Sigh... thankfully Calix was not present here with them. If not, Leslie was unsure how she would react.

"Mrs. Su, please apply some light... makeup on me," Leslie quickly changed the subject, trying to stop the private nurse from continuing talking about it, "And please braid my... hair too..."

"Oh! I’ve talked so much! Yes, yes, let’s!"

Mrs. Su smacked her mouth a few times, scolding herself for being so chatty right now. Grabbing the hairbrush, she planned to start by braiding Leslie’s hair first.

While letting Mrs. Su braid her long hair, Leslie quietly retraced her conversation with the private nurse earlier. Her calm countenance showed nothing about the jumbled-up thoughts in her mind.

A child with Calix in the future?

What if...

He already had one but, was unaware by him?

While Leslie was immersed in her thoughts, she didn’t notice a certain someone quietly walking out of the room. Mrs Su also caught nothing, giving her full attention to styling the former’s hair.

The tall figure of a man disappeared behind the door, rushing to the bedroom down the hallway.
