Win My Husband Over to Find My Child -
Chapter 183: The One-Month Mark
Chapter 183: The One-Month Mark
Leslie was blissfully oblivious to the inner chaos raging within Calix as he perfected—almost—his facade whenever he was in front of her.
As always, they spent their time together whenever he was not preoccupied with his job. He acted as normal, often chatting and teasing her.
True to her words, Leslie diligently followed her rehab treatment sessions. She was always left physically exhausted and mentally drained by the end of each session but, she kept her heart strong.
The quicker she got better, the sooner she could meet her beloved daughter.
Even though Calix occasionally shared news and photos about Calliope, Leslie wished to head to the orphanage and hug her child tight. She missed the feeling of embracing her little one in her arms.
’I am blessed. The tragedy took our lives but, here we are, still breathing and enjoying our new lives.’
More good things happened to Leslie after she fully possessed Charlene’s body. Aside from maintaining a close relationship with Calix and building one with Irene, she also learned Calliope’s whereabouts.
Everything was a blessing. She could handle the inconvenience in the form of lacking physical strength and poor motor coordination. Thankfully, she wouldn’t be confined to the wheelchair forever.
’Soon... I will meet Poppy soon. I wanna hug her so badly.’
Leslie chanted the same words in her mind as she continuously practiced to regain her strength and coordination.
Fortunately, Ms. Chen and Ms. Yao were incredibly helpful and supportive when Leslie was beaten by the following fatigue. They often shared success stories of their previous patients, intending to motivate her.
Soon, Leslie reached the one-month mark of emerging from her coma. This also meant one month had passed since her trip to Rome with Calix. The fond memories were still clear as day in her head.
"Mrs. Xu, you’ve done so well in these four weeks. Please keep up your good work. You might recover faster than our prediction."
Dr. Mo praised Leslie during her trip to the hospital one morning. She talked based on the recent checkups.
Aside from starting to recover her lost mobility, coordination and strength, the words Leslie spoke sounded more coherent too.
The medical professional’s words enticed Leslie to smile as joy and relief flooded her heart.
"I’ll keep working... hard, Dr. Mo. Thank you... for your and everyone’s... cooperation in assisting me..."
The hospital visit was a few days before the one-month mark – Friday.
When the day finally came on Sunday, Calix surprised Leslie with a proposal. He brought up the suggestion when they relaxed in the lounge after breakfast.
"A party... tonight?" Leslie stared at Calix with questions swirling in her eyes, thinking that she had heard him wrong, "Are you serious?"
What kind of party?
Did they have something to celebrate?
Was it his birthday?
Leslie’s mind quickly came up with various possibilities. She was startled when Calix mentioned having a party at the lake tonight. They had never done so before.
"Yup! Hahaha!" Calix broke into laughter at the sight of Leslie’s perplexed look, his eyes beaming, "Remember what Dr. Mo told you before? You’ve done a great job in the first month of your recovery."
"So... the party is to celebrate... me?" Leslie chuckled in helplessness, never expecting to hear that as the reason, "It’s not that great of... an achievement yet..."
"Don’t say that. Did you think it’s an easy feat?" Calix made a face, pretending to nag at Leslie, "Let’s have a small party among ourselves. Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond will join us. They will surely be glad to be involved."
Sensing how excited Calix was with his own suggestion, Leslie finally relented. Instead of feeling aversed toward the idea, she was just bewildered.
"If it’s fine with you... Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond, then... let’s do it. Hey... are you just looking for a chance... to have a party?"
Leslie’s last remark tickled Calix’s heart, prompting him to continue cackling. His merry laughter resonated in the lounge, garnering a helpless smile from her.
"I’ll make some pumpkin soup for you tonight. Or, do you want something else?"
Leslie’s eyes lit up. She immediately recalled how tasty the pumpkin soup made by Chef Xu before. Her repeated nods answered his question.
"Hehe, Aunt Wendy will prepare other food too. So, just think of having fun, en?"
"Okay..."
The curve of Calix’s smile softened as he saw the glimmer of anticipation in Leslie’s eyes. He was glad with himself for coming up with the idea.
Reaching out for his phone that was lying on the coffee table, Calix said, "I’ll be on a business trip next week. You should think of where you wanna go after I return."
Leslie randomly nodded, recalling what Calix had told her a few days ago.
CEO Xu would head to Rocester City from the sixteenth to the eighteenth. Leslie heard he needed to visit one of the factories there following several other schedules.
"Summer will be here soon..." Leslie’s eyes lit up, imagining the beautiful beaches with soft-rolling waves, "I don’t mind much about... going out but, can we... visit the beach this summer?"
Leslie doubted her ability to swim as usual due to her current physical state. But, she would like to merge her feet in the sea, feeling the waves passing by.
Calix blinked, his expression changed fleetingly before it quickly recovered. Smiling widely, he agreed, "Shouldn’t it be compulsory? We have to go to the beach at least once when it’s summer."
"Hehe... okay~"
The cheerful look on Leslie’s countenance mellowed Calix’s smile. He chose not to dwell on the drowning incident she suffered before.
A few days ago, Edward came with the report regarding that matter. The capable personal assistant found the truth behind Irene’s words.
"Mrs. Charlene and Second Miss Li joined the same swimming class. They were around ten years old at that time. Considering Third Miss Li hasn’t been born yet, she might have heard about the incident from someone else within the family."
"Some of Second Miss Li’s friends also attended the class. One day, they pushed her into the pool. The coach was away at that time."
According to the information Edward dug, Leslie tried to climb up from the pool but, the girls pressed her head into the water. One could tell why she was aversed to large bodies of water.
But...
Leslie who got frightened by water was not the one Calix knew. She loved going to such places thus, he wanted to fulfill her wishes.
Somehow, he felt so good when seeing her face beaming with delight as she ventured into the beautiful places.
An idea struck Calix, prompting him to excitedly ask Leslie, "Instead of the usual beaches, how about going to my island?"
Calix’s question was met with a startled look by Leslie.
"M-my island? Calix... do you have an island?"
CEO Xu owned a private island?
How much did that cost?
Did he seriously have one?
Leslie’s reaction tickled Calix’s heart, earning more hearty laughter from him. Smirking, he wiggled his brows.
"Mrs. Xu, have you forgotten who your husband is?"
"...no."
Blinking, Leslie laughed nervously.
Haha... somehow CEO Xu’s wealth scared her ah.
