Chapter 150: An Oh-So-Wonderful Husband

Soon, Calix returned with a tray of food. He had changed into comfortable home clothes. While placing the tray on the bedside table, he instructed Mrs. Su to step out of the bedroom.

"I’ll feed my wife myself," Calix sat on the edge of the bed, facing Leslie who leaned against the headboard, "Mrs. Su, my housekeeper has prepared food. You should have some."

Mrs. Su and Mrs. An had grown closer to Aunt Wendy throughout the time they started caring for the unconscious Mrs. Xu. All three of them were able to share various kinds of topics when they met.

"Mr. Xu, I know you’ve learned it but, please remember to feed Mrs. Xu with a small quantity of food," Mrs. Su reminded Calix before leaving the bedroom. Her gaze moved from Calix to Leslie, "Mrs. Xu’s throat is still too weak."

"I understand, Mrs. Su," Calix nodded. He wasn’t offended by the advice given by Mrs. Su despite already hearing it from Dr. Mo, "I’ll call you if I need any help."

"Very well, Mr. Xu."

Leslie quietly listened to Calix and Mrs. Su’s conversation. Her eyes followed the private nurse’s back as she walked to the door. Because she was indoors now she no longer wore the sunglasses.

Soon, Leslie was left alone with Calix inside the room. Mrs. Su shut the door following her disappearance.

"Aunt Wendy made the porridge watery," Calix took off the lid before picking up the bowl from the food tray, "Look, Leslie. The eggs are so silky. Like golden threads ah."

Calix’s words put a smile on Leslie’s lips. Her gaze drifted to the bowl, seeing watery rice porridge with silken yellow egg strands.

"You can... just ask Mrs... Su to... feed me," Leslie moved her eyes to Calix, helplessness imbuing her gaze, "Aren’t you... tired?"

"I’m still energetic ah. I can run one hundred laps around the lake," Calix grinned widely, exaggerating his ability right now, "Leslie, people will think I’m an oh-so-wonderful husband ah. Don’t you see how Mrs. Su smiled when I said I’ll feed you myself?"

Leslie was tempted to roll her eyes. Calix’s laughter slipped into her mind as he was amused by his own words.

"The porridge isn’t too hot now," Calix scooped some using the spoon before trying it, "It’s okay if you can’t eat all of it. Don’t force yourself."

"...okay."

Calix carefully brought the spoon to Leslie’s lips. He slightly tilted the spoon, allowing her to slowly eat the porridge. He was inwardly relieved seeing her start to taste the food.

"It is okay with you? Dr. Mo said you can have liquid food for now," Calix’s eyes lingered on Leslie’s lips before moving back to her eyes, "She said your throat is better than most patients."

Leslie’s lips formed a small smile. Dr. Mo also pointed that out to her. She wondered if it could be attributed to her luck being one of the supporting characters in the story after fully possessing Charlene’s body.

’Well, it’s a hit-or-miss guess. This world might be inside a book but, I’m living in it now. It’s also my world.’

Leslie didn’t know what the author had planned for the rest of the story yet, she had a feeling that she was not tightly restricted to the storylines.

"Let’s get you to eat as much as you can," once again Calix fed Leslie, "You’re skins and bones now. We need to fatten you up. I think the wind can easily send you tumbling down."

Leslie sighed inwardly, thinking about the same matter spoken by Calix.

When she was in the soul form, Leslie had taken Charlene’s physical appearance but, her body was in a healthy shape. Even Dr. Mo suggested she slowly gain weight while rebuilding her muscles.

’I will eat lots of food once I get better!’

Fired up by her own determination, Leslie continued eating the porridge. Aunt Wendy’s homemade food was good. Even though the porridge was simple, it was still tasty to her.

As expected, Leslie couldn’t finish the entire bowl. Her stomach felt full even after a few spoons of porridge.

"This is good enough, I guess," Calix stared at the bowl before looking at the mug of milk standing on the tray, "How about drinking some milk? It’ll give you nutrients too."

Leslie nodded once. Calix used a spoon to feed her the milk. Like the porridge, she couldn’t finish the milk too.

"Have you... eaten?" asked Leslie curiously, "Did you... eat at the... hospital?"

Leslie didn’t know what Calix did during her health examinations. He might be busy with his office tasks despite being the weekend.

"I’ve eaten just now," Calix referred to the time he was in the kitchen before coming upstairs to Leslie. He put the mug back on the tray, "Aunt Wendy made some chicken rice. Hehe, you’ll get to eat it soon ah. Don’t worry."

Leslie feebly shrugged, amused with Calix’s words.

"Do you want to take another nap?" tilting his head, Calix stared at Leslie’s half-opened eyes, "I slept a lot back when I’ve just woken up from the coma, you know. It’s hard to stay awake for a long time."

"...not sleepy... yet," Leslie stiffly moved her neck, trying to shake her head, "How about... you? The flight... was long."

Even though Calix jokingly said he could still do strenuous activities, Leslie didn’t take him seriously.

"En..." Calix glanced at the wide bed. More than half hadn’t been occupied. Hesitating, he carefully asked, "If you’re okay with it, can I just rest here? I won’t take too much of your space ah."

Leslie was stunned. She didn’t expect to hear Calix asking that.

But...

"...okay. You can... you worrywart..."

Calix chuckled listening to Leslie’s last remark. After tidying up the bedside table, he immediately climbed on the bed. He didn’t forget to grab the throw blanket from the nearby chair.

Now, Leslie and Calix leaned against the headboard with a small distance separating them. Thinking that it would be difficult for her to turn her neck to look at him, Calix scooted to the middle of the bed.

"I wanna ask you something, Leslie," Calix was reminded of the question lingering in his mind, "Now that you’ve woken up, do you want me to tell your family about it? I haven’t mentioned anything to mine either."

Everyone who knew about Leslie emerging from her coma had been notified about keeping the matter a secret. Calix was tempted to share the news with his grandmother but, the choice was only up to Leslie.

Leslie slowly blinked, letting those words sink into her mind. She couldn’t help but wonder how Rowan, Bianca and Irene would react if they heard the news. Certainly, Old Madam Li and Geoffrey’s family wouldn’t take it nicely.

"Not yet..." Leslie shook her head, "Wait... until I get... better."

Leslie was not ready to face Rowan, Bianca and Irene yet. Especially during the time she was still weak.

Even though Charlene kept reminding Leslie not to feel guilty about possessing her body, it was easier said than done. Leslie still needed some time before fully accepting the idea.

"Okay, let’s do that. I won’t say a word to my family too."

Calix wasn’t disappointed. He simply followed Leslie’s wish. Then, another matter crossed his mind.

"Oh, one more thing. Leslie, you don’t have to go to the hospital often. Aside from the health checkups, you’ll do your rehab sessions here."

"...what do... you mean?" asked Leslie confusedly.

Grinning, Calix proudly announced, "I’ll convert the gym to your rehab station."

"...what?"

This man... what did he just say?!
