"M-Mimo, can’t you hear me?"

After several vain attempts, Leslie blurted those words out loud. Her anxiousness caused her mind to stay awake but, the continuous painful throbbing hurt her brain.

Once again, Leslie failed to converse with Mimo. This matter hadn’t happened before. She unconsciously grasped the blanket hard as dread flooded her heart.

’What’s happening? Urgh!"

Another onslaught of intense headaches struck Leslie. Unable to withstand it, she forced herself to close her eyes, willing sleep to quickly claim her consciousness.

Perhaps, Mimo was preoccupied with something. It would respond to her eventually later.

But...

What if Mimo still didn’t answer her?

No, no. She better not let negativity impact her hope.

Shaking her head, Leslie refused to entertain such helpless thoughts. Doing so would harm herself.

’It’s okay. It’s fine. Even if I can’t contact Mimo... we’ll meet once I return. Yes, we will.’

Following those thoughts, Leslie slowly drifted to sleep. Her headache lessened as she lost consciousness. Her body curled under the thick blanket.

The flight continued soaring in the sky. The dazzling sunlight beamed onto its sleek metal body, reflecting warm golden reflections.

Creak...

While Leslie was deep in sleep, Calix slowly opened the bedroom door. His countenance expressed the strain weighing his heart. Unable to keep his worry at bay, he decided to check on her.

"Leslie... are you still awake?" whispered Calix before stepping inside the bedroom.

Leslie was lying on one side with her back facing the door. Calix approached the bed, trying to see whether she was already asleep or not.

Thankfully, she had.

Exhaling a helpless sigh, Calix noticed how tense Leslie’s expression was. It was clear that she was still in discomfort.

’If only I could call the doctor to treat her. I wonder what’s wrong.’

Unsure of what else could he do, Calix silently wished that Leslie would feel better once she woke up. Reaching out one hand, he pulled the blanket to drape on her shoulders.

’Charlene Li... Leslie...’

Calix quietly retrieved his blurry memories from years ago. For some reason, he couldn’t ignore them despite his constant failure in regaining their clarity. It was one of the reasons he picked the eldest miss of the Li family as his bride.

’Whether I get my answer or not...’

Calix straightened his body, giving Leslie one last look before turning around to leave the bedroom. His gaze was unfathomable.

’...she’s still my wife.’

Once he stepped out of the bedroom, Calix walked out of his private lounge. He wanted to calm his inner turbulence. His feet brought him to the other lounge.

The enclosed room was vacant. Mr. Hao and Mr. Tan used another one for themselves. Throwing himself on the couch, Calix threw his gaze out of the window before he slowly zoned out.

’Six years ago... who’s the culprit?’

Frowning, Calix forced himself to open the door of the hazy memories. He couldn’t help but recall the night of the accident. Specifically, about what happened before he almost sent himself to Death’s door.

"En... I felt tired so, I rested in a room. I left the hotel before dawn broke. You know how slippery the roads could be, right? I lost control of my car. But, the real reason was the faulty brake."

Those were what Calix told Leslie weeks ago[1]. He wanted to be truthful to her by telling her everything but, he didn’t dare to do so.

How could he reveal what happened on that night to her?

His memories of that night were still fuzzy. Sometimes, Calix felt as if he was watching footage played by a broken TV yet, his heart adamantly told him that he was one of its actors.

"If I didn’t fall into a coma... I might get every evidence of that night," Calix murmured, clenching his hands together, "And... she didn’t seem to recall it. Did she forget that night?"

Calix exhaled a deep sigh, expressing how chaotic his heart was beneath his calm facade. For the nth time, he rearranged the puzzles in his mind, hoping to finalize its form and get the answer he was seeking.

Calix was in a coma for half a year. After he regained consciousness, he was busy recovering his normal physical abilities.

At the same time, Calix began feeling foreign in his own body. The sensation was akin to occupying another person’s body. Thus, he had to navigate between what felt real and what was not.

When Calix fully recovered, his focus was on investigating the accident. He wanted to do it himself even though his family had done it during his period of unconsciousness.

Unfortunately, he failed to retrieve anything. Only then did he shift his focus on the separate incident that happened that particular night.

But, it was only temporary. He buried the matter in the back of his mind, only to dig it back again after six years.

"This is driving me crazy," Calix huffed. He ran one hand across his black hair, "Should I tell her or not?"

Calix initially planned to tell Leslie after she woke up from her coma. Never did he expect to meet her in another form while her body was still in an unconscious state.

Closing his eyes, Calix begrudgingly told himself not to rush over anything. Even though his initial intention to marry Leslie—Charlene Li—held ulterior motives, he earnestly enjoyed her company after getting to know her better.

"Let’s wait until she recovers her body," Calix talked to himself, cementing his words deeper into his mind, "There’s no need to hurry."

Exhaling another sigh, Calix shut the door of his old memories. Gazing out of the window, he quietly watched the puffy white clouds adorning the azure sky.

Calix didn’t know how long he had been sitting in the lounge. He even dozed off for a while. Once he returned to his private lounge, he found that Leslie had come out of the bedroom.

"...she’s still sleeping?"

Calix’s initial relief changed into dread once more. Instead of doing anything, Leslie sat on the couch, sleeping. Her head tilted to one side, supported by the right handrest.

With his brows wrinkling, Calix quickly sat next to Leslie. A bad feeling budded from the first sprout. He intently took in her whole countenance.

Were his eyes playing tricks on him? Or... did she look translucent?

Even though Leslie was a soul, her appearance was just like any other human. But, what Calix saw now was different. A thin layer of sheen was cast on her body.

"Leslie... Leslie, wake up," shrouded in anxiousness, Calix touched the back of Leslie’s hands, "You... are you still unwell?"

Leslie’s closed eyelids moved, being stirred awake by Calix’s voice and touch. Slowly opening her eyes, she looked at him.

"Calix? Why?" Leslie blinked a few times, still feeling a bit sluggish, "How many hours... are left? When will we arrive?"

Calix inwardly sighed in relief as he saw Leslie responding to him despite sounding so weak, "Maybe in six hours. Aren’t you hungry? Is your head still hurting?"

"Still hurts a bit," Leslie groaned. She pinched the space between her eyebrows, "I don’t know what happens to me. I just... huh?"

Startled, Leslie looked at her hand. Out of a sudden, the tips of her fingers disintegrated into small lights, spreading further to her arms.

She was dissolving!

"Leslie! What..."

"C-Calix! Help me!"

Calix reached out for her, Leslie grabbed his hand but...

She vanished right in front of his eyes, leaving lights flickering in the air before they faded. The glow was cast on Calix’s horrified countenance.
