Chapter 132: Sightseeing at Night with CEO Xu
At seven-thirty, a sleek black car came to pick Calix up. Leslie followed the man dressed in a white collarless shirt with a khaki-colored suit. Their first destination was a restaurant.
"I’ve booked a room there. You better eat to your heart’s content. It’s not like you can join me eating at the cafes or bars later."
Leslie’s heart was in agony once she heard Calix’s statement. It became more painful because she couldn’t refute him at all.
Most local restaurants and cafes wouldn’t have private dining rooms. Leslie could only watch Calix sipping his wine while having local delicacies there. It was the reason the man brought her to an upscale restaurant first.
While sitting in the backseat, Leslie kept looking outside of the car. Twinkles glimmered in her almond eyes.
"Wow~ I think we passed this area on our first day here."
The streetlights basked the cobblestone sidewalks and main roads under their soft glow. Locals and tourists alike were enjoying the beginning of the night in the Eternal City.
Calix drifted his eyes to the back of Leslie’s head. His lips melted into a smile, amused to see her admiration for the scenery outside.
A slight sense of guilt pricked into Calix’s heart as he recalled how boring Leslie might feel during the long hours he was away. Thankfully, they would return home in a few days.
In fifteen minutes, the car pulled up on the front porch of a fine-dining restaurant. Calix stepped out of the car, followed by Leslie. He strode toward the host waiting by the door.
Leslie watched Calix interacting with the local man. In no time, the host called for an attendant to escort Calix to the private dining room.
"How far is this place from the Trevi Fountain?" Leslie asked once she and Calix were left alone inside the room, "Can we go there on foot?"
A chuckle slipped Calix’s lips. Smirking, he answered vaguely, "You’ll see soon. First, get your tummy stuffed with the cuisines. Isn’t it a good idea?"
"A very good one," Leslie wiggled her brows, already anticipating the dishes that would be brought by the waiters soon.
As expected, only fine delicacies were served. Leslie enjoyed every single dish. She couldn’t help but do a little dance as the food exploded flavors in her mouth.
Leslie and Calix didn’t spend much time at the restaurant. In a little over an hour, they already left. He brought her to walk down the street a further away from the restaurant.
"It’ll arrive soon," said Calix as he suddenly paused walking. He wore the earbuds with a short strap, doing the same trick as before[1], "Don’t be too surprised."
Leslie blinked, eyeing Calix with suspicion, "Are we waiting for a bus?"
Calix stopped at the nearest bus stop to the restaurant. Only a few people were waiting there, all of them were locals.
Calix simply smiled, grinning lopsidedly. As the orange streetlights showered the surrounding area, Leslie could perfectly see the way he smirked at her.
Shrugging, Leslie stopped asking. She stood next to Calix, waiting for a bus or anything else this man had arranged for the night.
In less than a few minutes, an open-top double-decker bus pulled up. Calix glanced at Leslie, grinned and stepped into the bus.
"W-wait!"
Leslie hurriedly tailed after Calix. The man immediately led her to the second floor after waving at the bus driver.
"Come, sit here with me," Calix gestured at Leslie to follow him to the backseat, "The bus will start moving soon."
"Is this a sightseeing bus instead of a public one?" asked Leslie while walking down the aisle, "None of the people hops inside."
"Yes, a sightseeing bus," Calix plopped down onto one of the seats. He patted on the chair next to him, "Haven’t you seen it in anything?"
"I have, but..." Leslie stared at Calix in disbelief, doubts began creeping into her heart, "Why is it empty... aside from us? Don’t tell me you rent this whole thing."
Calix’s deepened smirk answered Leslie’s questions. Her mouth parted into a round shape.
"Your jaw is rolling on the floor. Pick it up ah," Calix let out a throaty chuckle, his face seemed to be beaming under the splash of streetlights, "And come here."
Leslie quickly shook her head. She hurried to where Calix was sitting. The bus slowly moved away from the bus stop.
"Mr. Xu, is this private sightseeing your only surprise?" Leslie’s little smile was tinted with helplessness, wondering what else Calix had in store for her, "I think this isn’t the only one though."
"Mrs. Xu is smart," Calix grinned, pleased by the change in how Leslie addressed him. Throwing his right hand out, he motioned to the historic buildings illuminated by myriads of dazzling lights, "Enjoy your sightseeing."
Chuckling, Leslie said nothing more. She let her gaze settle on the panoramic views of the city during nighttime.
As the bus moved, Calix said they wouldn’t stop anywhere. This was a no-stop tour that took an hour.
Before disappointment kicked into Leslie’s heart, Calix explained that there was a reason behind his choice. He promised to bring her around once again.
"The night is young. We’ll visit the places you want, including the stores and cafes."
Calix’s words cheered Leslie up. Sitting on the second floor of the bus, she feasted her eyes on the elevated view of the Eternal City’s famed landmarks. Basking under the lights, they appeared so enchanting against the backdrop of the night.
’This is so... charming.’
The scenic views around the city fascinated Leslie. She couldn’t help but throw questions at Calix from time to time. He patiently answered every one of her curiosity.
Leslie moved from her seat, standing by the edge of the bus. Calix didn’t stop her as he watched her from behind.
The night breeze was cool yet, refreshing. Leslie listened to the hum of the city, coming from beneath them. Passersby and vehicles didn’t stop moving as they were heading to their respective destinations.
"Do you like it, Leslie?" asked Calix, withdrawing his gaze from the view until his eyes landed on Leslie’s back, "You can’t take photos like usual but, I still hope you enjoy the tour."
Leslie blinked, slowly peeling her eyes from the river the bus was passing. Turning her head around, she returned Calix’s gaze. Her curling lips were illuminated under the lights.
"How could I not enjoy it?" Leslie’s chuckles echoed gently, expressing her delight, "I’m glad that I come here with you. There’re some inconveniences but, everything is worth it."
Calix nodded twice. He inwardly let out a sigh of relief.
Leslie smiled in helplessness. She continued looking at the river. Its surface glimmered as the moonlight beamed through the clear water.
Eventually, the bus halted at one place after one hour had passed. Calix led Leslie out of the bus.
"What’s next?" asked Leslie, inquiring about Calix’s plan.
Without looking at her, Calix replied with a smirk, "Our second round of night tour. Come."
Wondering what Calix had in mind, Leslie didn’t stop following him. He brought her to a store.
"...scooter rental?"
Did he come here to rent a scooter?
Calix talked to the shopkeeper. Leslie understood nothing of their conversation but, she guessed that CEO Xu planned to ride a scooter to explore the city. She knew that it was a common transport for the people here.
"Okay. Let’s go. Hehe, isn’t this a good choice?"
Stunned, Leslie stared at the pastel pink scooter CEO Xu chose among the rest.
