Chapter 130: Getting the Gladiator Ghosts to Haunt Him
Leslie had so much fun exploring the quaint district with Mimo.
Without her realizing it, the sun was already hanging above the horizon, waiting to dip in. The two of them had just returned to the private villa.
Mrs. Rossi had gone home. She switched on all the lights in the hallways and common areas as per Calix’s request. He didn’t want Leslie to stay in the dark if he returned late.
Leslie brought Mimo to the small lake. The crochet fox toy was overjoyed to see the calming stream. They sat on the wooden deck before Mimo told Leslie that it needed to go back now.
"Mimo, thank you for spending your time with me," Leslie gave the crochet fox toy a few smooches on its face, "Hehe, you said you could only be with me for a short time. Yet, it’s almost sunset now."
|Leslie, I had fun. Just call me whenever you want, okay?|
"Okay~ Bye bye, Mimo."
Leslie gave Mimo another kiss on its cheeks before the fox toy vanished from her sight. Chuckling, she shrugged in helplessness.
"Maybe I should wander to another area tomorrow," murmured Leslie to herself, watching the steady flow of the water underneath her feet, "I haven’t explored the residential area."
While sitting on the wooden deck, Leslie recalled her little adventure today.
From the flower shop, Leslie simply wandered from one store to the next. She dropped by a candy store, a bookstore, a restaurant and even a grocery mart.
Then, Leslie headed to the market square.
Colorful canopies were set up as the hawkers tried to attract people’s attention to their stalls. They sold fresh fruits and vegetables, different types of cheeses, baked goods, local wines and many more.
Leslie spent more than an hour at the market. She couldn’t help but be interested in almost everything. Mimo patiently accompanied her.
Leslie’s next destination was an old church she discovered by chance. She only looked at it from the outside before wandering to the nearby park.
There, Leslie took a nap under one of the trees.
"It felt weird," whispered Leslie to the passing breeze, her eyes locking onto the setting sun, "To be around many people but... no one could see me."
An unsettling sense of loneliness crept into Leslie as she continued wandering the district. If Mimo hadn’t accompanied her all day, she might have felt more devastated.
The past three weeks since her transmigration were so hectic that Leslie didn’t have time to feel that kind of unnerving feeling. The sensation was only heightened now, perhaps due to her being in another country.
"Will he return early?" Leslie sighed in helplessness, recalling Calix’s words this morning, "He might be busy tho."
Even though Leslie knew nothing about Calix’s goals for this business trip, his schedule was certainly full to the brim. He might have to attend a few social functions at night whether small gatherings or a big banquet.
"Forget it. I don’t want to disturb him," shaking her head, Leslie chased away the idea of following Calix tomorrow, "Let’s just return to the villa."
Retrieving her legs from dangling above the river, Leslie slowly stood up straight. Streaks of amber, ruby and violet beamed through the rustling leaves, scattering the vibrant colors on the forest floor.
What should she do tonight?
Calix said he requested Mrs. Rossi to play the drama from yesterday on TV before she left. Because he wasn’t sure when Leslie would come back from her exploration, he simply told the housekeeper to play it from the first episode.
Leslie didn’t mind rewatching the earlier episodes. It was better than staying still and looking at the ceiling.
"...en? What’s that sound?"
While walking along the footpath, Leslie caught a loud noise coming from the sky. Once she looked up, the leaves and blades of grass started swirling madly as huge gusts of wind circled the villa area.
"T-that’s Calix!"
Leslie’s eyes widened in surprise. She saw the sleek body of a helicopter flying across the small forest, heading to the spacious backyard.
Oh!
CEO Xu was back!
Floating in the air, Leslie rushed to the backyard. She reached the woodland edge in no time.
The helicopter had landed on the helipad. From where Leslie was, she saw Calix climbing down the stairs with Mr. Morino and Mr. Bernadi. There was no sight of Mr. Tan and Mr. Hao.
Holding her excitement back, Leslie slowly landed her feet on the ground. Instead of heading toward Calix, she immediately marched to the balcony outside the lounge.
"Hehe, I can touch things now."
Laughing to herself, Leslie slipped into the lounge. She unlocked the door from the inside while watching Calix leaving the Italian men. Mr. Morino and Mr. Bernadi returned to the helicopter.
"Calix!" Leslie happily called the man’s name once she opened one of the glass doors, "I thought you wouldn’t return yet."
A grin hung on Calix’s lips. After kicking off his shoes, he stepped through the door. His eyes collided with Leslie’s smiling gaze.
"Why? Were you bored?" asked Calix, raising his brows in amusement. He loosened the amethyst-colored necktie, "Did you have fun?"
"I was bored a bit," Leslie shrugged, half-admitting to Calix’s question, "I went to the stores! Then, the market square, the church and the park. You know what? I saw..."
As Calix followed Leslie to the couch, he smilingly listened to her storytelling. She seemed eager to share about her fun adventure today, perhaps due to her being alone for hours.
"Haha, I bet you’re so frustrated when you visited the bakery and restaurant," snickering, Calix wiggled his brows, "You could only watch the diners eat such delicious food, right?"
Leslie threw a side-eye to Calix, annoyed by his remarks. He really knew where to hit her sore spot.
"I can’t eat there but, you can order the food for me," Leslie retorted, holding back the urge to smack Calix’s irritating grin, "If you don’t, I’ll haunt you ah. I’ll get the gladiator ghosts to help me."
"Aw~ I’m so scared," Calix pretended to be frightened by Leslie’s threat, "Someone, come and help me~"
Scoffing, Leslie rolled her eyes. Her action earned laughter from Calix.
"I have a video conference tonight so I can’t bring you out yet," said Calix as he rose to his feet, "Let me take a bath first. Then, I’ll order whatever you want for dinner."
Leslie beamed in an instant, "Yes! Thank you, CEO Xu! You’re the best!"
Lasagna with ricotta! Creamy shrimp risotto! Tiramisu! Bomboloni!
Come to mama!
Calix swiped his bangs, putting on a haughty air around him, "Huh! You should be grateful to have a generous husband like me."
"Wow, I’m so grateful," speaking monotonously, Leslie clapped her hands, "CEO Xu is the best. The most benevolent human being on the planet."
Letting out an exaggerated sigh, Calix glared at Leslie, "Yes, keep that fact hammered in your mind."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Leslie shrugged, didn’t care about Calix’s pretense, "Go upstairs quick. I’m starving."
"You speak as if you’re the one busy at work," Calix huffed, turning around to leave, "Aiya, my wife works me to the bone."
Leslie wished her eyes could flash laser to the Drama King CEO Xu.
How entertaining would it be?
