Chapter 123: The Enchanted Garden Villa

After the little episode of CEO Xu crocheting a headband, Leslie resumed watching the drama while Calix retreated to the bedroom. He wanted to take a nap. They would reach Rome in a few more hours.

Leslie successfully binge-watched four more episodes before drowsiness lured her to sleep. The private flight had more sleeping cubicles but, she didn’t feel like stepping out of Calix’s chamber.

"So sleepy..."

Yawning a few times, Leslie covered her mouth before lying on the large couch. It was big enough for her to roll on the seats without falling to the floor. She also could straighten her legs comfortably.

"Oh! I forgot."

Leslie carefully took off the pink headband. Her silky long hair cascaded, falling gently around her shoulders. Smiling while looking at the crocheted piece, she put it on the coffee table.

"I hope we’ll arrive soon."

After whispering those words, Leslie closed her eyes. She hugged a throw pillow close to her heart, hoping to land in the soil of the Eternal City when she opened her eyes later.

Pizza! Gelato! Pasta!

She’s coming!

The sleek and polished private jet continued cutting through the air, navigating its way in the infinite azure sky. The warm hues of the sunlight glimmered on its metallic surface, flying high above the vast blue ocean.

Not long after Leslie fell asleep, Calix stepped out of the bedroom. The base of his clavicle and a trace of the scar were exposed as he took off the top two buttons. Raising his brows, he stared at the sleeping Leslie.

"I thought she’d just finish that drama in one go."

Shrugging once, Calix slowly approached the couch before reaching out to a throw blanket sitting on the opposite side of Leslie. Once he unfolded the fabric, he carefully covered her with it.

"Tsk tsk, is she dreaming of food?" muttered Calix under his breath as he saw Leslie’s smiling lips.

Shaking his head in helplessness, Calix took a step back. He didn’t forget to dim the lights inside the chamber, allowing Leslie to sleep better.

Once Calix was done, he walked out of the place, heading to the other parts of the private flight.

The jet eventually landed a few hours later. When the moon had long replaced the sun back in their home country, it was still bright in Rome.

The dazzling sun warmed the chilly spring air, welcoming Calix and Leslie to the Eternal City. Including Mr. Tan and Mr. Hao, they were prepared to descend.

"Are we really here? Are we?"

An excited Leslie threw her eyes around as she hovered in the air, following Calix who walked down the private jet airstairs.

"..."

Calix pursed his lips to a straight line, holding back from laughing at Leslie’s antics. He was tempted to tell her that they couldn’t see anything much in the airport area.

"Welcome to Rome, Mr. Xu."

Calix’s arrival was welcomed by the representatives sent by his business partner, Mr. Vittorio Nucci. He would meet the middle-aged man later for dinner.

"If there’s no change in schedule, let’s head to my residence here," Calix told the man, speaking fluently in Italian, "Mr. Nucci hasn’t arrived back, doesn’t he?"

"Mr. Nucci is still preoccupied with his work in France. He wishes to convey his gratitude for you, Mr. Xu," replied Mr. Morino. His partner Mr. Bernadi nodded in agreement.

In the original schedule, Calix should meet Mr. Nucci right after he landed. But, the latter’s branch office in France encountered a trouble that required his presence.

"It’s fine. I can use this time to get some rest, don’t you think so?"

Calix’s casual response relieved the representatives. They hurriedly escorted him to the vehicle waiting for them.

Widening her eyes, Leslie was pleasantly surprised at the sight of a sleek black limousine. She couldn’t help but marvel at how luxurious CEO Xu’s business trip was.

"Time to enjoy the trip~"

Leslie inwardly laughed, wondering when could she get used to the life of the wealthy in this new world.

Before they landed, Calix told Leslie about their accommodation in Rome.

Mr. Nucci arranged for him to stay at a private villa in central Rome, Giardino Incantato – The Enchanted Garden. The surrounding garden looked straight out of the fairytale books as if it were enchanted by pixies.

Calix’s voice echoed in Leslie’s mind as she recalled their conversation.

"A housekeeper will be there but, only during the day. I told them that I’d handle dinners myself. Either by ordering from any restaurant or calling a chef."

"I’ve seen the place before. It’s still in the city center but, we’ll have the best privacy. So, don’t worry about getting caught."

Calix’s choice of words stunned Leslie. He spoke as if she was a fugitive on the run.

According to Calix, the villa also had a beautiful small forest in the backyard complete with a lake.

Leslie’s attention was hooked just by imagining the scenery. She wondered what kind of experience she could gather here.

’There’s a local neighborhood just outside the villa. I should take a walk sometime when Calix’s busy working.’

Leslie didn’t feel like following Calix around all the time. Even though he was used to her presence, she was reluctant to bother him so much. He came here not to play but, work.

While sitting inside the lavish limousine, Calix, Mr. Hao and Mr. Tan were engaged in a discussion with Mr. Nucci’s representatives. They spoke in both Italian and English.

Ignoring them, Leslie threw her eyes out of the car windows. A huge grin was plastered on her lips as she took in the majesty of the ancient city.

"Wow~ So many scooter and bicycle riders. Can I ride those later?"

Covering her mouth, the excited whisper slipped out of her lips. Leslie didn’t notice the subtle glance thrown at her by Calix. He barely caught those words while keeping his attention to the other men.

In less than an hour, Calix and the rest reached the private villa. Mr. Hao and Mr. Tan stayed at a nearby hotel. The housekeeper, Mrs. Rossi welcomed all of them. She prepared a light meal for Calix under the representatives’ instruction.

"Mrs. Rossi will go home soon. She has been ordered to give absolute privacy to you, Mr. Xu," said Mr. Bernadi to Calix before taking his leave, "I’ll return with a driver tonight to bring you to the restaurant."

"Thank you for the arrangement, Mr. Bernadi and Mr. Morino," Calix took off the cream-colored jacket, smiling faintly at the men, "It’s my pleasure to dine with Mr. Nucci tonight."

Mr. Morino and Mr. Bernadi walked out with Mr. Tan and Mr. Hao. The duo would bring Calix’s assistants to the hotel.

"I’ll head upstairs," Calix told Mrs. Rossi while spinning on his heels, "Thank you for the food, Mrs. Rossi. I’ll enjoy it after resting for a bit."

"If you need anything, feel free to call me later, Mr. Xu," replied Mrs. Rossi with a kind smile, "I live not far from here."

Leslie didn’t understand what Calix and Mrs. Rossi were talking about as they spoke in Italian. She waited until she followed Calix upstairs before asking a question.

"Can I wander outside?"

Her adventure started now!
