Chapter 122: The First Handmade Gift From Him
"Aren’t you bored? You watch the drama nonstop for a few hours already."
A drowsy Calix stared at the laughing Leslie who sat not far from him. Her eyes were glued to the screen of the huge TV.
From the beginning of the flight, Leslie watched the drama where Evelyn acted as the Moon Goddess. The comedy of the show made her laugh several times.
"This is only the third episode for today," Leslie replied without looking at Calix, "We have over ten hours before landing. I think I can finish everything before that."
"..."
What kind of eyes did she have?
The flight was soaring in the skies. Calix reminded the attendants, Mr. Tan and Mr. Hao not to disturb him. He checked some documents online while Leslie was preoccupied with watching the fantasy romance drama.
Calix exhaled a sigh, rubbing one of his temples. A few strands of his hair fell from the slick-back style. His peach blossom eyes remained on Leslie for a moment longer.
Seeing Leslie in the brand-new spring dress gave Calix an idea. She wore a light pink dress with small white and lilac flowers embroidered on the skirt’s hem. The dress was simple yet, accentuating her youthful look.
Leslie wore her hair down, letting the long hair cascade behind her back, scattering on the couch. No accessories adorned her lustrous black hair.
"Leslie, do you like the color pink?"
Calix noticed that the ten clothes Leslie picked at Lavender Thread yesterday mostly were in different shades of pink. Some had hues of lilac, white and yellow.
Calix’s sudden question pulled Leslie’s attention away from the drama. Keeping her eyes on the screen, she asked, "Yes, it’s my favorite. Including purple. Why?"
"Just to make sure."
After getting the confirmation, Calix stood up from the huge L-shaped couch. He strode to the bedroom, wanting to get something. Leslie was still focused on the drama.
Soon, Calix came out with a box. Once he returned to his seat, he brought out several items from the container.
Intrigued by what Calix wanted to do, Leslie paused the drama. Raising her brows, a pleasant surprise flickered in her eyes.
"Eh? Will you crochet something?"
The box housed several yarn balls in different colors. Calix chose the pastel pink, lilac and white yarn balls before taking out the crochet hooks as well.
"Do you wear a headband?" Calix smirked, picking up the pink yarn ball and putting it on his right eye, looking at Leslie with the other, "I’ll crochet one for you. Do you want it with flowers or ribbons?"
"Both!"
Why should she choose only one if she could ask for both?
Calix shrugged, acting like it was an easy feat, "Doesn’t matter. I’m skilled enough to make it."
Leslie burst out laughing, her eyes glimmering in delight, "CEO Xu, this will be my first time seeing you crochet."
Leslie still recalled the line of crochet toys she saw in Calix’s office private lounge the other day. Every single one was so adorable. She even mistook the red fox toy for Mimo.
"Continue watching the drama. I’ll finish it in an hour," Calix started to hook the yarn to the crochet needle. He leaned lazily on the couch with one leg crossing the other.
"The drama can wait," Leslie grabbed the throw pillow, hugging it close, "Let me watch how cool CEO Xu looks when he’s crocheting."
"Huh! Come and watch how skilled your husband is," Calix scoffed, eyeing Leslie playfully. He didn’t realize that his cheeks had a hint of a blush.
Leslie’s lips melted into a smile, feeling faint heat spreading on her cheeks. Pressing the pillow closer to her, she tried calming the sudden erratic beating of her heart.
This man... did he know how dangerous his flirty smile was?
In the calmness that enveloped the room, Leslie silently watched Calix who focused on crocheting the headband he promised for her. His fingers deftly interconnected the loops of yarn, little by little producing a delicate fabric.
"Oh! I can see the shape now! How can you make it so fast?"
Leslie’s exclamation was met with laughter by Calix. He seemed delighted to receive praise from her.
"Do you know how to crochet? If you want, I can be your teacher."
"I only know a little bit," Leslie answered in half-truth, "I’ll take up on your offer later."
"Up to you," Calix shrugged, his eyes glancing to Leslie before looking back to the yarn and hook, "Ask me anytime."
"Hehe, okay."
Leslie’s excitement went down as she grew bored. She continued watching the drama to pass the time.
As boasted by Calix earlier, he didn’t take too much time crocheting the hair accessory. In less than an hour, he presented a delicate headband in the pink color to Leslie. The flowers and ribbons had a touch of white and lilac.
"Hope you like it," Calix grinned, "I made some for Mia before."
As his only niece, Calix gifted a few crochet toys, headbands and hats to Amelia. The little turnip head adored them so much. She still kept them even though she had outgrown some of the hair accessories.
"This is so pretty!" Leslie exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with joy. She carefully took the headband from Calix, treating it with grace, "I’ll try it now."
"Go on."
Without looking for any mirror, Leslie slowly wore the headband before adjusting its position on her head. She smoothened her messy bangs and ran her fingers through her long hair.
"How do I look?"
Leslie’s laughter laced her tone, further softening the air around her. The glint in her eyes was telling Calix that she really appreciated the handcrafted gift from him.
Calix’s smile mellowed. The soft pink color matched Leslie’s well, from her spring dress to her pinkened cheeks. She resembled the blooming peach blossom flowers during early spring.
"Pretty. Like a flower fairy."
Leslie blinked, her cheeks reddening into a deeper shade. Calix’s voice suddenly sounded so velvety to her ears. He didn’t make fun of her like usual.
"W-well, the excellent CEO Xu made this for me. Hehe, I’ll surely wear it during our trip. Thank you, Calix."
Flustered, Leslie’s voice was slightly shaky. Smilingly bashfully, she randomly brushed her bangs to one side.
Calix noticed the slight change in Leslie’s look. He held back from teasing her, thinking that doing so would break the invisible pink bubbles that suddenly popped up in the air around them.
"If you like it so much, I’ll make more for you later. Headbands, cardigans or even skirts, I’ll crochet them."
Withdrawing his eyes away from Leslie, Calix put the yarn balls and crochet hook back into the box. She didn’t notice the faint hint of red at the tips of his ears.
"That sounds so reassuring," Leslie giggled. Her eyes curved into two crescent moons, "Calix, either a restaurant or a craft store, you can open both."
"What a jest," Calix looked up, amused by Leslie’s words, "Well, who knows? Once I get fed up with the corporate field, I might end up opening either of them or both."
"Hahaha! I can work as a cashier. CEO Xu, don’t worry ah. You can trust me."
Calix threw a dubious glance at Leslie, prompting her to laugh harder.
