Win My Husband Over to Find My Child -
Chapter 120: He Was Not a Trophy Husband
Chapter 120: He Was Not a Trophy Husband
"If my wife doesn’t trouble me, whom should she bother?"
"...huh?"
Calix’s words caught Leslie’s attention, surprising her. Maisie and Ophelia stiffened while Gladys’s expression sank. None of them miss the razor-sharp edge behind the man’s casual intonation.
Ignoring the change in the three ladies’ countenances, Calix continued talking. Frost lurked beneath his smiling lips.
"W-what did you say, Second Young Master Xu?"
Her voice shaky, Maisie forced herself to ask Calix. The menacing glint in the man’s eyes pierced into her heart, flooding it with immense fear.
Ophelia and Gladys also sensed the silent wrath swirling in Calix’s eyes. None of them dared to say anything.
Calix’s light smile appeared ominous under his impassive stare. His voice grew a degree colder.
"Whether I’m busy or not, my responsibilities as her husband still stand. Miss, who are you to imply that she’s a burden to me? Do we know each other?"
Maisie almost choked. She didn’t expect to receive such a callous response from Calix.
"Second Young Master Xu, I didn’t mean..."
Calix swiftly cut Maisie off, spinning his heels around, "I need to hurry back to my wife. Have a good day."
Without wasting another second, Calix resumed his walk. His broad back appeared so distant and unapproachable toward the three ladies. He spared them no glance anymore.
’Wow... did that just happen?’
Leslie blinked in confusion, thinking how fast the event unfolded. Exhaling a sigh, she stared at how Maisie and Ophelia’s faces flushed red in embarrassment.
Gladys fiddled with her fingers, shrouded in uneasiness. She subtly looked at where Calix was heading. Despite being terrified of him, her gaze still held a hint of a longing.
"Gladys! What’s wrong with him? How could he be so harsh ah?"
Maisie covered her face, shrieking in humiliation. When she dragged Gladys toward Calix earlier, she never thought it would end like this. She initially assumed that her friend could act as a bridge to link them together.
Second Young Master Xu didn’t talk to Gladys even once!
"How could I know?" Gladys retorted, unpleased with Maisie’s behavior, "I’ve told you not to greet him. Do you think he’s as approachable as he looks?"
"What? You want to blame me now?!" shouted Maisie in annoyance, staring daggers at Gladys.
"H-hey! Don’t fight here ah!" Ophelia quickly stepped in, "People can see us. Maisie, didn’t you say you wanna get new collections from Lavender Thread? Let’s go now."
"Huh! Let’s go! Just leave her be!"
Stomping on her heels, Maisie hurriedly walked away from Ophelia and Gladys. The latter’s face reddened in anger. Ferocity glowered in her eyes.
"Humph! You go with her! I’ll return home!"
Gladys turned around, striding in the opposite direction. Her luscious hair fluttered in the air, following her movement.
"Gladys!"
Ophelia sighed out loud. Shaking her head in helplessness, she chose to follow Maisie, leaving the enraged Gladys to coax herself.
"Wow~ so real, a live-action."
An amused Leslie regretted that she didn’t have any popcorn now. Watching the cannon fodders fight among themselves was so entertaining
Leslie’s eyes shifted from Maisie and Ophelia to Gladys. Their figures turned smaller as they kept walking away.
This was just like the scenes in the dramas!
CEO Xu also acted extremely well just now!
But...
Why did her back feel so cold? Did the mall blast its centralized air-conditioning system to the max?
Shuddering in the cold, Leslie slowly turned around. The sharp gaze of someone was directed in her direction, piercing through the air.
"..."
Crossing both hands over his chest, a smiling Calix was looking at Leslie. He stood next to a massive pillar. She immediately sensed danger through the fake smile.
Crap! How could she forget about him?
"W-why are you staring at me like that?" Leslie quickly acted as if she understood nothing once she reached Calix’s side, "CEO Xu, don’t direct your annoyance to me. They’re the ones at fault."
Gritting his teeth, Calix held back from nagging at Leslie in public. People would just see him scolding the marble pillar next to him.
Calix couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw Leslie was still hovering around the women. While he was making the cool exit away from the annoying bugs, she stayed to hear the gossip instead!
"To the car. Now," mumbled Calix under his breath, staring daggers at Leslie.
"Yessir!"
Huffing, Calix spun on his heels, leaving the pillar. Leslie winced, thinking how could he be so petty just because she didn’t immediately follow him.
In less than fifteen minutes, the valet drove Calix’s car to where he was waiting. He handed the man some tips before getting inside. Leslie simply passed through the steel body of the vehicle.
"You..."
Leslie swiftly interjected, giving Calix no chance to say anything.
"Calix, smile ah. You’ll look older quickly if you easily get mad at everything."
"..."
CEO Xu was speechless. Staring expressionlessly at Leslie, he shook his head out of helplessness.
"Haaa... forget it. I’m not annoyed at you ah. More to those women," Calix let out a sigh, buckling the seatbelt.
Leslie chuckled, "Hehe, do you think I don’t know?"
Calix scoffed before laughing along, recalling the short interference that had just happened, "Did you see how your cousin looked? She didn’t dare to even peek at me ah."
"Because you already put her at her place," answered Leslie with a shrug, "She’s terrified of you now. She might think you’d bring up what she did before in front of her friends."
Leslie still remembered the satisfaction of the night Calix outrightly called Gladys out when she tried to seduce him. Without hesitating, he rejected her and told her off. Never once did he dance around the subject.
"It’s better that way," Calix slowly drove the car out of the basement, "If not, she’ll keep being delusional."
"Your action deserves praise," Leslie chuckled. She looked at Calix’s side profile, "CEO Xu, thank goodness you’re not a trophy husband."
Calix almost choked, "W-what? A trophy husband? Me?"
"Haha, I don’t mean the usual definition," Leslie covered her mouth, amused by her own thoughts. Her eyes curved into crescent moons, "You don’t just stand there like a statue, a trophy. You call out of their nonsense when necessary."
Leslie remembered her frustration toward some of the aloof CEO male leads in the books she had read.
More often than not, the cold male leads treated the seductress cannon fodders like air. Usually, this action was to show they didn’t even acknowledge the women’s existence.
Leslie actually swooned with that kind of action in the beginning. She was excited to read about male leads who only had their eyes on their female leads but, it got boring really fast.
The male leads should tell the seductress cannon fodders off! They had to call out their bullshit! Not just stood there like statues!
Sigh...
Thankfully she found some male leads who went against the norm. They helped to coax her disappointed heart.
Calix blinked, blankly registering Leslie’s words in his mind. He wanted to look at her but, he was currently driving on a busy road. All of the vehicles moved slowly with not many gaps between them.
A thought crossed Calix’s mind.
Did all those chicken wings make her brain go haywire?
