Chapter 115: Tossing the Crying One to Her Parents

"Bye-bye! Mia, don’t miss your handsome uncle too much!"

"Hehe, come to Mia’s house, Second Uncle. Bring cakes and gifts for Mia."

Calix carried Amelia in his arms before heading to work the next morning. He would head straight to Xu International instead of dropping by his private residence.

Evelyn was still sleeping while Old Madam Xu was leisurely watching her morning drama. Vernon, Lucille and Amelia saw Calix off to the door. The clock pointed to a quarter before eight.

"Hey, do you only see cakes and cookies when you look at me? No wonder your belly grows rounder ah," Calix pretended to scold his niece. He pinched Amelia’s bouncy right cheek.

Amelia howled, "Nooo! Daddy and Mommy said Mia is cuter now!"

Calix smooched Amelia’s chubby cheeks, earning giggles from the little turnip head. Vernon and Lucille watched them with a helpless smile.

The uncle and niece pair always caused chaos whenever they were together. Either they laughed together or fought, things could change within a minute.

"Ask your uncle to get you something, Mia," Vernon reached out both hands, taking his sweet daughter from his younger brother, "He’ll go for a trip soon."

Amelia’s eyes widened, sparkling with anticipation, "Ohhh! Second Uncle, Mia wants pretty clothes! Cookies too!"

Calix clicked his tongue, staring at his niece in disbelief, "What a little piglet. Are you fattening yourself to be eaten, huh? You’ll be in the perfect size soon."

"Daddyyy! Second Uncle tease Mia! So much!"

Calix hurriedly stepped back. He had a feeling that Vernon would kick his leg if he continued teasing Amelia. Without wasting time, he rushed to the car.

"Bye-bye!"

Jumping into the car, Calix grinned mischievously at the huffing Amelia. Vernon stroked his daughter’s head while Lucille was unable to hold back her laughter.

Leslie witnessed everything from inside the car. Shaking her head, she exhaled a sigh.

"Are you five? How could you tease her so much ah? Poor girl."

Leslie’s words enticed Calix to cackle. He swiftly drove the car out of the yard, honking once to his elder brother’s family.

Vernon and Lucille waved hands at him while Amelia stuck out her tongue, still angry at her annoying second uncle.

"Hehe, that’s my role as the fun uncle. Once she cries, I’ll toss her back to her parents," replied Calix with a smirk.

Leslie chuckled. She couldn’t comprehend how CEO Xu’s mind worked most of the time.

The bad traffic caused Calix to reach Xu International ten minutes longer than usual. He had already notified Edward who asked for his whereabouts.

"Will you have anything important today?" asked Leslie when Calix was adjusting the car’s position in his exclusive parking lot.

"Only until the afternoon," Calix unlatched the seatbelt. He took a peek at the rearview mirror, adjusting the falling strand from his slick back hairstyle, "I need to finish a few things before the Rome trip."

Calix and Leslie would depart for Rome tomorrow morning. The finalized schedule was at eight. The flight took around thirteen hours. They should land at three in the afternoon Italy time.

"I think I’ll just stay in the lounge."

Leslie had an intense urge to binge-watch the drama mentioned by Irene last night. The romantic comedy had fantasy elements, aligning with her interest now.

"Tell me when you’re hungry. You didn’t have breakfast earlier."

Calix pointed out his offer for breakfast this morning. Leslie gave an excuse of still being full from last night’s dinner.

"Yes, yes," Leslie’s smile had a hint of a smirk, "I wonder which special menu the cafeteria has today."

Calix scoffed, silently thinking Leslie and Amelia were just the same. He had a hunch that once Leslie regained her body, she would drag him for a food adventure.

Sigh... He needed to work harder so his wife could have all the food she wanted.

Calix and Leslie straightaway headed to Floor 48, to the CEO’s office. CEO Xu received greetings from the staff along the way. Once they reached the floor, Edward came looking for Calix.

While the two men discussing work, Leslie hurriedly entered the private lounge. Leaning against the headboard of the bed, she started looking for the drama.

"Oh! Thirty-five episodes? How many can I finish by today?"

Leslie started counting how many hours she needed to finish the entire show. Because she didn’t easily feel tired, she could fully utilize this capability to binge-watch the drama.

Hoho! This ability came in handy!

A happy Leslie was leisurely watching the drama while an annoyed Calix had to face some of his subordinates’ incompetency. He also needed to check the documents and scribble his signatures on some stacks of important papers.

Time continued ticking until it was nearing lunchtime. By that time, Leslie had reached the third episode while Edward came to see Calix again. The younger man brought along a file unrelated to the company.

"Have anything more for me to sign?" asked Calix without looking away from the laptop. His fingers moved nonstop on the keyboard, "Leave it there."

"No, Boss Xu," Edward presented the file to Calix, "This is another compilation of what you’ve asked me. I’ve extended the perimeter of our search."

Calix unconsciously paused, shifting his gaze from the screen to Edward. The short holiday break made him forget about the private task he entrusted to his chief assistant.

"Give it to me. You can leave now."

The file exchanged hands. Edward gave a slight bow to Calix before spinning his heels around, walking out of the office. The cafeteria served his favorite poutine and banana cake today.

Edward was unaware of the change in Calix’s expression. He intently looked at the file, worry began to cloud his heart.

The file was thick. Almost one hundred papers were bound together, containing the photos and information of the girls sharing the same name — Calliope.

Was the one Leslie looking for was in here?

Frowning, Calix was reminded of the first time Edward gave this kind of information to him. It resulted in failure and Leslie was obviously affected by it.

"...let’s give it a try."

Pushing the office chair backward, Calix rose to his feet. He headed toward the private longue, gripping the file in one hand. Uneasiness tugged at his heart.

Knock! Knock!

"Leslie, I’m coming in."

Once he opened the door, Calix caught the sound of a drama playing on TV blending with Leslie’s hearty laughter. What greeted his eyesight was the image of his sister Evelyn wearing a gorgeous and flowy traditional dress.

"..."

Leslie noticed Calix walking in. She paused the drama before looking at the man. He had taken off the deep blue suit, leaving a light blue shirt and dark gray vest on his fit abdomen.

"Finished your work already?" Leslie remembered Calix said he didn’t have much to do today, "Do you wanna go home now?"

It was already a quarter past twelve. Leslie couldn’t believe how much time had passed from the first moment she started watching the drama. Its hilariousness made her tummy hurt for laughing too much.

"Not yet," Calix hesitated. He slowly lifted the file, showing it to Leslie, "Edward came with new information."

"...huh?"

Blinking her eyes slowly, Leslie’s heart skipped a beat.
