Chapter 103: Lying on a Swing Chair Together

"Oh, you’re here."

Hearing the familiar voice, Leslie looked up from the novel she was reading. The chilly breeze gently tousled her long hair. Her eyes landed on Calix’s smiling face.

Seemed like he had just returned from the backyard. Leslie didn’t notice when the family stopped playing. She was too engrossed in her reading.

"You had fun, didn’t you?" Leslie chuckled, pointing toward the backyard, "I saw you playing there. Hehe, it looked fun."

"Mia wanted to play catch ball so, we just did," Calix replied while shrugging, one of his hands deep into his cargo pants pocket, "She fell asleep once my brother carried her after playing."

Stepping out to the balcony, Calix’s figure was illuminated by the lights hanging above. He slowly approached Leslie. She was sitting on the double-seat rattan swing chair, holding a book on her lap.

The young lady scooted to the end of the left side, giving him space to sit there. The swing was big enough to occupy one more adult.

"Aren’t you hungry? You didn’t eat lunch," asked Calix once he leaned against the comfy plush cushions. The chair swung gently, following his movement, "I told the kitchen to bring some food here soon."

"Thanks. I just felt hungry. I ate the cookies and salted almonds."

Leslie declined when Calix asked whether she wanted lunch or not. She was still full from breakfast. Her hunger surfaced earlier but, the snacks he left behind helped to suppress it.

"Eat them all if you want. We’ll have more food starting tomorrow. The relatives will be here after all."

Crossing both arms over his chest, Calix lay comfortably on his seat. Sprawling on the swing chair, his long legs barely touched the floor.

Calix’s gaze wandered to the clear night sky, the moonlight glimmered on the moles under his left eye. Resembling butterfly wings, his eyelashes fluttered as he blinked.

Leslie quietly did the same. Pulling up her legs, she put her soles on the edge of the swing chair. She also looked at the sky, letting the book rest on her chest.

The soul and the human were immersed in their own thoughts despite being in the same space.

"I wonder when will you wake up."

Calix’s mellow voice broke the momentary silence. The curiosity in his words brought a smile to Leslie’s lips.

"Why? Want me to stop bothering you?" Leslie’s tone was laced with a chuckle. She relaxed her grip on the book, "Hehe, I’ll stop once I can eat without needing you nearby. It sucks ah can’t hold anything I want."

"Hahaha! Bothering me what? I know you’re enjoying it!"

Calix’s chuckles slipped out of his lips, causing Leslie to laugh along with him. Only they could hear the echoes harmonized. Other people would only listen to him laughing all by himself.

"Well, I can’t wait to wake up too," admitted Leslie, anticipating twinkling in her eyes, "I can’t achieve anything by staying a soul, you know?"

The most important thing for Leslie was looking for Calliope. She yearned to embrace her little child in her arms, reassuring herself that Calliope was safe.

Calix raised his brows, nodding slightly. Even though he was not in Leslie’s shoes, he could tell being in her soul form brought inconveniences. The new abilities she gained had limited her usual routine.

"The time will come soon. Didn’t you say you can’t enter your body because it’s still recuperating[1]? The doctor said your injuries are healing well. So, it’s just a matter of time."

Leslie blinked, recalling the first time she conversed with Calix. It happened after he woke up from his fainting. The funny memory drew more laughter out of her mouth.

"Yes, yes. My injuries are healing well," Leslie parroted Calix’s words, agreeing with him, "I have so many things I wanna do once I wake up."

"Oh? I’m sure eating is on top of your list," grinning, mischief flickering in Calix’s eyes, "Will you drag me to a food tour?"

"Of course! Who else will pay for my food?" replied Leslie jokingly. Chuckling, her gaze traced the moon, "Shouldn’t you be responsible for that, CEO Xu?"

Calix let out a hum. Turning his head slightly, his eyes moved to Leslie’s side profile. The soft moonlight cast an afterglow on her countenance.

Really, she looked nothing like a soul.

In Calix’s mind, Leslie might appear a little translucent as if light could beam through her body. Seemed like it was not the case.

"Come now," Calix changed the topic. He slowly sat up before sliding down the swing chair, his tall frame leaving shadows behind, "The food should be here soon."

"Okay~"

Leslie picked the novel before stepping inside the bedroom. Calix walked ahead of her, his movement relaxed. A knock echoed from the door just in time they sat on the couch in the seating area.

"Come in."

A young man came inside with a food tray of piping hot noodle soup and tea. Steam rose from the bowl, spreading its mouth-watering fragrance.

Widening her eyes in delight, Leslie happily patted her tummy. She didn’t think that Calix noticed her action.

"Put it there," Calix gestured to the coffee table, holding back from laughing at Leslie, "You may return to your quarters now."

"Good night, Second Young Master."

The male helper swiftly left after serving the noodles and tea on the coffee table. Once he vanished behind the door, Leslie immediately sat on the carpet. She couldn’t eat well if she remained on the couch.

"Finish everything lest you go to bed hungry," Calix crossed his legs before supporting his chin with the back of his hand, "Don’t you dare go sleeping in the garden. I don’t wanna spend my morning looking for you."

Tilting her head up, Leslie cheekily answered, "It felt so good sleeping in the garden. I should do it again."

"Who do you think you are? A garden fairy?" Calix scoffed, rolling his eyes, "If people can see you, they’ll be spooked ah. Sooner or later, people will think this place is haunted."

Leslie’s lips twitched. Her twinkling gaze quickly changed to a deadpan one, "Before that, people will gossip about your house first."

"..."

Ignoring Calix, Leslie started filling her stomach with the yummy noodle soup.

The refreshing chicken broth enticed her appetite. The scallion garnishes and black sesame added colors to the clean soup. Alongside the noodle, the chicken slices and poached egg easily quenched her hunger.

"Tsk tsk, you eat as if I starve you for years."

Leslie was irked. CEO Xu tried to annoy her because there was no one else he could tease right now. Using the spoon, she scooped the broth before slurping it out loud.

"Why? Are you hungry after all the games? Want some?"

Calix quickly shook his head, patting his tummy as how Leslie did just now.

"No thank you. I want to maintain my six-packs. Do you know how hard I work out all this time just to retain this?"

Leslie rolled her eyes, letting Calix’s boast go one ear in and out of the other. Smiling in annoyance, he refrained from pinching her bulging cheeks from munching the noodle.
