Chapter 561: What can 521 do?
"Whoo—!"
The wind roared by her ears.
"Dong dong—dong dong—dong dong—"
Her heart thumped in her chest.
Feeling the scenery around her rapidly receding, and herself being swiftly carried forward in Shane’s arms, Merica couldn’t help but feel her heartbeat accelerate, her face turning as red as a tempting peach, making one want to take a big bite.
However, Merica was completely unaware of this.
Because her mind was completely engulfed in chaos.
She could only cling confusedly to Shane’s neck and look disheveledly at Shane’s face, so close to her own, as if she couldn’t keep up with the unfolding events, feeling utterly dizzy.
In such a state, Merica didn’t hear a voice at all.
"Merica! Push him away...!"
Genom was persistently chasing them on the ground, watching Shane leap and sprint through the trees and seeing Merica, who was obediently staying in his arms, not thinking of resisting, her face continuously flushed, felt like she was about to explode.
What angered her even more was that Shane, while darting forward, even turned to give her a glance, smiling as he tossed out a sentence.
"Save your strength, violent girl of the Elf Clan, your Merica is already mine."
That sentence simultaneously struck both elf girls.
"I... I belong to Mr. Shane...?!"
Merica felt happiness come so suddenly and so swiftly that she became even more dizzy.
Genom, however, couldn’t help but lose her temper.
"Who’s the violent girl?! Who’s yours?!" Ignoring the startled looks of the surrounding clanspeople, Genom shouted furiously, "Give Merica back to me now!"
With that, the elf girl finally couldn’t restrain herself and raised her short stick, chanting magic with a voice full of rage.
"—This is the breath of the Heavenly Wheel—"
"—Red fire spirits, transparent truth, use this prayer as fuel, rise up here—"
This was the same magic Merica had used, the most powerful area-effect offensive magic in the Flame Series.
"[Heavenly Fire Rain (Heaven Fire)]!"
Without hesitation, Genom unleashed the spell, letting the massive magic power swirl in the air like a gale, turning into a deluge of fire rain, looming down from above.
"What!?"
"Genom!?"
"What are you doing!?"
Seeing the fire rain descending from the sky and sensing the formidable magic power emerge, the surrounding elf onlookers were all shocked and thrown into panic.
"Holy shit, this girl’s really going all out, huh?"
Even Shane was stunned.
The reason was none other than that this area-of-effect spell had descended from the sky, and not only Shane, but also the surrounding buildings and streets had been enveloped, becoming targets of the meteoric fire rain.
And then...
"Boom!"
A fire rain struck first, hitting a treehouse, which began to slowly burn, quickly engulfed by the flames.
"Boom!" "Boom!" "Boom!" "Boom!" "Boom!"...
Before long, other treehouses, streets, Light Trees, and various street stands and items were also attacked by the fire rain, ignited one by one, bursting into fierce flames.
Naturally, the attack also reached Shane.
Using "[Inner Destiny]" for protection, he could completely ignore the magic attacks, but he had Merica in his arms; he couldn’t let her be affected by Genom’s magic.
Right away, Shane also began chanting.
"[Grant·Dispel]."
Shane cast a Grant Magic spell with a "Dispel" feature, causing a ripple of magic power to expand from him.
"Fizz!"
When the fire rain touched the ripple and came close to Shane, it was as if it had been extinguished by water, instantly turning to a wisp of blue smoke and disappearing.
Shane broke through the downpour of fire rain in this manner and continued to dart forward.
"Stop!"
Genom, originally regretting her impulsive actions that had caused such trouble, saw Shane emerge unharmed and couldn’t care less about anything else, continuing the pursuit.
"What are you doing, Genom?!"
"Ah! My treehouse is on fire!"
"Quick, use magic to put out the fire!"
"What’s gotten into Genom?"
Immediately, the innocent elves, seeing the entire street gradually burning, each let out cries of despair.
Fortunately, elves are mages, and even the worst among them could use one or two kinds of magic, which made extinguishing the fire quite easy. Moreover, the Light Trees weren’t ordinary trees; they were fantasy creatures created by magic, and extinguishing the fire on them was not difficult.
Thus, although the fire seemed terrifying, it actually did not cause much damage and was quickly extinguished.
However, Genom’s odd behavior still left some elves with a lingering fear, hastily running to notify the Elf Corps about the incident that had occurred here.
A chase was gradually blown up.
Shane and Genom were completely unaware and continued their battle of wits and bravery.
"[Blizzard]!"
At this point, Genom no longer used Flame Series Magic. Instead, he had switched to Ice Series Magic, summoning a Blizzard that howled as it attacked Shane.
During this time, the air itself seemed to freeze with the plunging temperatures, turning into gusts of cold fog and even ice crystals, as the streets gradually froze under the sweep of the frigid wind.
However, powerful as the Blizzard was, it still couldn’t stop Shane’s advance.
"Bestow·Dispel."
Shane continued to counter with dispelling properties of Grant Magic, allowing ripples of Magic Power to undulate continuously around him, dissolving the oncoming Blizzard.
"Blizzard!"
"Blizzard!"
"Blizzard!"
Genom was apparently beginning to lose his reason, growing fierce as he watched Shane casually and effortlessly dissolve his spells. Crying out again and again, he unleashed a relentless barrage of ice and snow magic.
In an instant, a ferocious cold wind roared, and the ice and snow assailed as if the Goddess who reigned over winter herself was furious, enveloping the surroundings in an endless tempest of snow.
"Crack, crack, crack...!"
Under the extreme Blizzard, the grating sound of the frost forming was incessant, freezing everything around into sculptures of ice.
Shane truly hadn’t expected that, simply by abducting Merica, this guy would go so mad.
In that case...
"Bestow·Reflection."
Shane used another form of Magic, transforming the Magic Ripple echoing around him suddenly. They became as smooth and clear as mirror surfaces.
"Boom!"
The sweeping Blizzard, upon touching Shane, failed to have any effect and was repelled by the mirror-like Magic Ripple. It twisted like a tornado of ice and snow, turning sharply and blowing toward Genom.
"Ah!"
Genom let out a cry of alarm when he saw this, coming to a halt as he hastily raised his Short Stick.
"Flowing Fire Protection!"
High temperature replaced the cold, and the ground before Genom shook violently as if spewing magma, suddenly cracking open with flames erupting from within.
Flames formed a barrier in front of Genom, also blocking the oncoming Blizzard.
"Bang——!"
The next second, flames clashed with the ice and snow, spurring a thunderous explosion, with shockwaves spreading out from the impact.
When the flames and ice and snow dissipated, fading from each other, Genom rushed out of the gusts, frantically searching his surroundings, yet his expression had turned quite ugly.
Because Shane was nowhere to be seen.
"Where is he!?"
Genom clenched his teeth in rage, even starting to panic.
No way around it: if Shane had disappeared, it meant Merica had left with him.
Taking such an adorable Merica away, to a place no one could find, what would this Alien Race male do?
Just thinking about it slightly, Genom felt an urge to run headfirst into a wall.
"Show yourself!"
Genom couldn’t help but shout out loud.
Then...
"Alright, I’m out. Now, shouldn’t you explain yourself, Genom?"
A voice, suppressing anger, arose from behind Genom, causing him to stiffen on the spot.
Genom could only turn his neck with great difficulty to look behind, where he saw a group of people standing there.
"Look what you’ve done, Genom."
"What are you going crazy for?"
"Do you want to destroy the village?"
"Oh, Genom, we’ve really spoiled you."
A horde of Elves from the Elf Corps arrived, standing behind Genom, their expression extremely disapproving as they scolded.
And the person at the forefront was Carol, whose face had turned utterly dark.
"Ca...Carol Teacher...!?"
Genom’s face paled.
"Don’t call me teacher; I don’t have such a reckless disciple."
Carol’s face remained dark, her expression one of gnashing teeth.
"Te...Teacher! Listen to me!" Genom, sensing great trouble, quickly said, "That Alien Race male has taken Merica away!"
"Is that so?" Carol responded indifferently, coldly asking, "What does him taking Merica have to do with you setting fire in the village and freezing everything like this?"
"Of course, it’s related!" Genom shouted loudly: "I have to take Merica back!"
"Take back your head!" Carol finally lost her temper, grabbed Genom by the collar, and pulled him up close to her face, roaring, "They came here together in the first place. If he really wanted to do something to Merica, would he wait to reach Elf Country and do it in front of all the Elf Clan!?"
"But...but...!" Genom struggled subconsciously while trying to argue.
"No more words!" Carol declared decisively, "Now, you’re coming back with me to kneel and apologize to all our people!"
With that, Carol took Genom away regardless of his struggles.
"Wait...wait a minute! Merica! My Merica————!!"
Genom’s shouts echoed through the air.
Alas, they earned him no sympathy.
